View 2 Replies"My Recent Documents" link on the start menu has disappeared. I formatted my HD. Added all the new updates from Micrsoft, my antivirus, Tweak UI, MS Word and nothing else yet when I went to the start menu and the My Recent Documents wasn't there. I went to the Properties (right-click on taskbar) and it's not there either. As a matter of fact there is no link or short cut or place to activate it anywhere.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThis is my first post, and it's a small issue, but help would be appreciated. I run XP Pro with SP2 on a Compaq Presario laptop. Each time I open "my recent documents" from the Start menu and delete an item, the whole list closes and I have to open again, and go through that each time for multiple deletes. How can I keep the list open and do multiple deletes at one time?

View 5 Replies View Relatedin my start menu My recent documents folder it always displays as empty Ive activated it following Start>Properties>Customize>Advanced> Checking the box under recent documents history...but files that open wont appear..
Also I went to the registry and did the following under and in the entry NoRecentDocs History put the value to 0 and it still would work. I don't think I have the Tweak UI program on my Machine, I did not see it in my control panel, still I removed a app. called Power Toys for win, having this still no effect on the situation
Normally when you open or access a document or file it is added to the list of recent documents on the Start Menu. This tweak will stop files from being added to the list.
Open your registry and find the key below.
Create a new DWORD value, or modify the existing value called 'NoRecentDocsHistory' set the value to equal '1' to enable the restriction.
Exit your registry, you may need to restart for the changes to take effect.
I'd like to delete My Pictures and My Music folders within My Documents. Though whenever I do, the My Pictures and My Music icons on the Start Menu will not open.
It's redundancy not to my liking to have My Pictures and My Music folders within My Documents folder, and to have My Pictures and My Music icons on the Start Menu; which lead to the same folders.
Is there a way to delete My Pictures and My Music folders within My Documents folder, while still retaining their Start Menu functionality?
I just installed Windows XP Professional.
When I go to START menu. There is no RUN dialog command to activate. Where can I find it manually?
I can still use system restore; but my problem is I can't seem to locate system restore on the start menu, I know that it used to be there. Is there any way to put the icon back on the start menu? Running Window XP Home Edition.

The "documents" option (which displays recent documents) is missing from my start menu. I have tried EVERYTHING! Does anybody have any idea how to get it back. There is no obvious, intuitive way to do this.

Whenever I try to open a webpage saved to my desktop, before the page opens in the browser, I get a message saying Windows cannot find C:documents and settings. Also, whenever I am online, I get a message saying Windows cannot find (the webpage I am trying to open), and then it opens the webpage. Can you help me figure out how to stop these messages? The window with the message has an X in a red circle. I am getting tired of having to close these windows.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have had my Gateway laptop with Windows XP for about 3 years now. For the past year or so, for some reason my Broadcom 802.11g network adapter has been showing up as having a problem, which has meant that have not been able to use the wireless feature of the laptop. I have lived with it until tonight. I tried to fix it by trying to download a new driver, update the driver, restore settings to a previous date, ect. After nothing working, I decided to do a system recovery. When I did this, it gave me 2 options, one with backup and one without. I chose the backup option and it said everything would be saved to a "my backup" folder. I went through the process which took quite some time. It installed windows and I set the computer up. After everything, when I went to the my backup folder, it only has applications, NO DOCUMENTS. I have TONS of pictures and important documents on my computer that I now can not find. I am panicing as I truley hope I do not lose EVERYTHING. Is there any way to get this stuff back? I have done several searches and nothing comes up. Ironically, my wireless adapter is now working, but I would gladly go back to it not working to have all of my pictures back.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a small domain with about 20 XP SP3 client machines. There are 25 or so domain members. One of my users had some files "disappear" from his My Documents Folder. After checking the recycle bin and searching for hidden files and folders with no luck, I logged in as admin and looked at his C:documents and settings'username' folder and found that it was created on his original hire date in 2009. View 7 Replies View RelatedAlrite, ive got an emachines notebook running xp home on it. We bought it from best buy, and i guess they registered the computer to a 'valued customer' and its really annoying. Idk how the user name stuff works, but i think a while ago(not 100% positive cuz it was like 2 years ago) when we first got the computer i changed the admin 'valued customer' name to my name. but the 'my documents' folder defaulted to 'c:/documents and settings/valued customer' still. i fixed it by making a folder on c: with my name and made that folder the target location for the My Documents folder.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am using Windows XP/SP2 a newish computer and some things changed from how it used to be.From the *Start* Button, there is the further button *Programs*. This then has the fly-out menu which used to open only the most recently accessed programs. Typically, after a boot it would show the items which opened in *Start-Up*, the rest were accessible only by hovering the mouse cursor over a button showing downward pointing arrows (more chevron like). This would then open the entire sub menu of programs to choose from. However, in the past week it now opens in that expanded view all the time. There is no sign of the little arrows anymore, and I always end up with a screen full of program lists whenever I go to Start/Programs.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI discovered that when I opened the Drop Down Menu in My Documents to move some image files into their appropriate folders, that My Documents which normally has the + next to it, that you click on to show all of your folders, well that is gone. Now I have to open an existing folder in My Documents and go back, in order for the + sign to appear. I know this does not seem like a huge problem, but I work with a lot of graphics and it becomes tedious. Does anyone know what caused this and how it can be fixed?
