View 4 RepliesI have a user's My Documents folder redirected to a share on our domain controller. The name of this user's My Documents folder is username's Documents. Whenever I try to change this to My Documents, it immediately reverts back to username's Documents. However, if I open a command window and say dir, I see My Documents which is what I would expect.

Whenever I try to open a webpage saved to my desktop, before the page opens in the browser, I get a message saying Windows cannot find C:documents and settings. Also, whenever I am online, I get a message saying Windows cannot find (the webpage I am trying to open), and then it opens the webpage. Can you help me figure out how to stop these messages? The window with the message has an X in a red circle. I am getting tired of having to close these windows.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have had my Gateway laptop with Windows XP for about 3 years now. For the past year or so, for some reason my Broadcom 802.11g network adapter has been showing up as having a problem, which has meant that have not been able to use the wireless feature of the laptop. I have lived with it until tonight. I tried to fix it by trying to download a new driver, update the driver, restore settings to a previous date, ect. After nothing working, I decided to do a system recovery. When I did this, it gave me 2 options, one with backup and one without. I chose the backup option and it said everything would be saved to a "my backup" folder. I went through the process which took quite some time. It installed windows and I set the computer up. After everything, when I went to the my backup folder, it only has applications, NO DOCUMENTS. I have TONS of pictures and important documents on my computer that I now can not find. I am panicing as I truley hope I do not lose EVERYTHING. Is there any way to get this stuff back? I have done several searches and nothing comes up. Ironically, my wireless adapter is now working, but I would gladly go back to it not working to have all of my pictures back.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a small domain with about 20 XP SP3 client machines. There are 25 or so domain members. One of my users had some files "disappear" from his My Documents Folder. After checking the recycle bin and searching for hidden files and folders with no luck, I logged in as admin and looked at his C:documents and settings'username' folder and found that it was created on his original hire date in 2009. (nearly a year ago)

View 5 Replies View RelatedAlrite, ive got an emachines notebook running xp home on it. We bought it from best buy, and i guess they registered the computer to a 'valued customer' and its really annoying. Idk how the user name stuff works, but i think a while ago(not 100% positive cuz it was like 2 years ago) when we first got the computer i changed the admin 'valued customer' name to my name. but the 'my documents' folder defaulted to 'c:/documents and settings/valued customer' still. i fixed it by making a folder on c: with my name and made that folder the target location for the My Documents folder.
View 3 Replies View RelatedFor some reason, my "shared documents" folder in "my computer" is now called "Documents." Although I am the administrator of this computer, I am unable to access "Documents," (I get this error message: "C: Documents and Settings All users Documents is not accessible. Access is denied" )and furthermore I am unable to change the folder's setting in "sharing and security" to "share" this folder. Additionally, I am blocked from access to the Shared Music and Shared Picture Samples that come installed on XP Pro. Please tell me how I can restore this folder to its original capacity as a "shared documents" folder. I am currently unable to set any of my folders to be shared. I am using XP Pro.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have lost all of my files within My Documents. All the folders remain, but all of the actual files are missing. No system changes have been made, nothing new was installed. I have run virus scans (I'm using SymantecAV Corporate) AdAware, Spybot S&D with nothing found.
They're still there somewhere, as the user folder properties show the correct size for the folder and number of documents, but not initially - right clicking on the folder to display properties shows a small number at first and then it gradually counts up. Properties for My Documents shows a small number of folders, all empty.
When I try to view documents in My Documents, I get the message that explorer must close down and sorry for the inconvenience. What could be causing this, and how can I cure it.

View 3 Replies View Relatedevery time I boot Windows XP Pro SP3 I get the following error message.
Windows cannot find "C:Documents and Settingsaquilinaymjgjsa, exe"
I just finished a complete reinstall of Windows XP. Before the re-installation, I partitioned the hard drive. I want the basic Windows XP system files and drivers on my "C" drive and then I want to accumulate data files (word processing, spreadsheets, photos, music files, etc.) on the new partition which in this case has been labeled the "G" drive. The difficulty I am having is getting getting the "Documents and Settings" to move over to the "G" drive. So that when I want to load photographs from my camera to the computer it goes for C:Documents and SettingsMy NameMy DocumentsMy Pictures. Instead I would like it to go to G:Documents and SettingsMy NameMy DocumentsMy Pictures. Using Windows Explorer I changed the file name of "My Documents" to 'Windows XP old path My Documents" and then I was going to set up a new path to the "G" drive through Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Computer Managment>Disk Management.
However I noticed that when I clicked on Start in the bottom left hand corner and it puts up that little window that "My Documents" which was listed now had the new title 'Windows XP old path My Documents' which I believe means I haven't gotten to the proper place to change the main configuration for Documents and Settings. Long way of saying how do I change the basic configuration for where Document and Settings are stored to a new location.
i am wanting to highlight the my documents folder and have it window out so i can see what document i have opened recently. how would i go about doing this?
