I figured I could search this problem up and find it here... I did.. NUMEROUS times... but my problem is.my HiJackThis program doesnt stay open either! I managed to get a logfile made.not sure how complete it is... before HiJackThis was shut down... heres the file.

My desktop wallpaper changed and won't change back and all my folders and things that were on my desktop are gone, but when I search for them it says that they are on my desktop and I can't right-click on anything. And if I make a new folder it doubles. And certain websites won't open for me (mail.com, lavasoft support boards, and urbanoutfitters.com). I've run Norton, Spybot, Ad-Aware,and Ad-Away.

When I run regedit, a dos window opens and then immediately closes I think i might have some other problems, but this one is reproducible.

My problem is when i go into exp. it opens and goes to where i tell it to, then is stops, freezes and then an error box comes up saying they have encounter an error and must shut down. It also says that if i continue to have this problem, to restart my computer. Well i have restarted my computer 4 times and the same thing keeps happening. I have run the Adware program i have and have found some bugs there, but it doesn't seem like that is what the problem is.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a fresh install of WinXP Pro, SP3. The dialog box opens up. The drop-down menu for choosing drives expands as expected for about 1 second, then closes back up. This happens no matter what. It just won't stay open/expanded. I must add, that clicking, My Computer, and using THAT drop-down to choose drives works fine. It's only in applications that this happens. I could swear I've seen this behavior before, but I can't place what it is or how to remedy it.

Everything seems to work fine apart from when I try to open PDF files directly from OE, it tries to open them with notepad, which obviously doesn't work. I can save them anywhere else on my computer, my documents for example, and opening them from there works fine. I have the latest Adobe Reader. I can't find anyway to tell OE to open these attachments using Adobe Reader.

My ethernet input has recently been broken thanks to my Mrs, so I got an ethernet adapter which connects into the USB.Now I cant remember if I started to experience problems before or after the install...However I have experienced no end of problems recently... I cant download a file and then open it in any of the Office apps, as soon as I do, it tells me 'Notepad/Word' etc has encountered a problem and needs to close. On top of this, I cant run Firefox and if I try to click on links in my email within IE, the same thing happens.I have AVG and Malwarebytes and have ran them both and they havent picked up on anything.

Just bought this EVGA motherboard and swapped it in place of an Asrock motherboard and got everything running, overclocked and stable.Before I got Windows XP running (previous installation from the asrock mobo), I encountered an issue and i isolated it down to one of the 200gb 7200.7 SATA HD's.IF this HD is plugged in when the PC boots, then the Windows XP Boot screen appears and hangs. NOTE: it DOES NOT freeze - the bar still moves, but there is no HD activity and the pc stays like this for hours on end. Note again - this is not a hang. the activity bar still moves from left to right, and it keeps doing this indefinitely it seems (with no HD activity from any drives). IF this HD is not plugged in, the PC boots in straight away. All drivers are tip top (nforce drivers, SATA drivers). However if I hot-plug this drive from within Windows, it works fine!. The PC just doesn't boot with the HD plugged in.

So I got to playing around with it, and wound up setting it to open with wordpad so I could try and delete it. However it appear to be too intrusive and slow down my system and a few hours later I uninstall it.After that whenever I boot my system, there are numerous "Run As" dialogue box appear. The contents of the dialogue box are as follows: Which user account do you want to use to run this program? When I click "OK" the program will then proceed to run and which I have to click quite a number of "Run As" dialogue box for all the background program to run. If not it will struck there until I click "OK".Not only that whenever I run any software program the "Run As" dialogue box will appear and I have to click "OK" in order for the program to run.Some of the programs are affected as it cannot run properly.

I immediately ran a scan using AVG, but in my impatience and worry over getting this infection I googled for information and found instructions at this web site. So I mistakenly tried to follow them. Unfortunately I must have made an error in there somewhere because now I?m having problems opening program files. AVG scrubbed the virus but now I cannot open program files. Either the program cannot be found or I get the ?Open With? pop up menu. I?ve tried to run the WMI diagnostic but can?t get that to work either. Is this fixable?

One of my co-workers does not have the option to choose Excel when she right clicks on text (.txt) files and selects Open With. I've already tried selecting Choose Program and navigating to excel.exe. That does not add it. Other users have the option. These text files are already formatted in a way that will open in Excel with everything in columns without going through the wizard. I don't have any problems editing the registry if that is required as long as I have detailed instructions.

This happens only in my computer - opening it from within an app, or from the drop down list of the address bar works fine. Now, 'explorer.exe' is not in the list, and also since the "always use the selected program..." option is grayed out, it doesn't help to manually navigate to explorer.exe & select it.
