Windows 8 Store Won't Open
Nov 27, 2012Towards the end of last week certain apps stopped opening such as mail,news,calendar and store. I reinstalled windows 8 and all the apps that weren't working started working apart from store and apps bought from the store. When I click on the app store it just shows the loading screen then closes and doesn't provide any errors. I've tried several things already such as removing avast,checked screen resolution, running windows app store troubleshooter and I have installed all windows updates. I'm unable to do a refresh as when I try to it says some files are missing, your copy will provide these files and I put the disk in and it just says invalid media.

Dec 9, 2012Yesterday my HP sleekbook arrived (cheaper amd version) with windows 8. Everything works fine except that I can't open the store or pc settings. When I click on the store tile, or click on the more settings button, the fullscreen (green for store, blue for settings) icon fills the screen en then dissapears.
I have tried the sfc / scannow option but this did not work after 3 trials. Reset or Refresh also isn't an option because I can't enter the settings and thus won't be able to perform these actions.

Mar 13, 2014I've got a problem of mass scale. My Windows 8.1 Store refuses to load. Whatever I do, it doesn't start up. I had to get to an app with compatibility problems and get to the store in that way, but also that doesn't work anymore.
Other than the one putting a big line in the cmd (one of the first & only real solution I could find).
Open Windows Store With Blank Screen?
Sep 15, 2014I'm in the middle of a struggle with blank screen issue, possibly corrupted exlorer.exe file (won't run). Wanted to try update from 8-8.1 but the Windows Store won't show up with the blank screen issue. Any thoughts on resolutions? I've done several malware, adware scans and antivirus scans. Everything comes back clear. Also, tried adding a new user acct, but get an error message and can't add. Thought the update might replace the needed files. SFC scan return non-fixable errors.

Apr 9, 2014I've got windows 8.1 with the yesterdays update but the problem comes before this update.
Wen I open the Windows Shop, it always on the green screen and does not advance. I've done the following steps:
1 - I did WSReset.exe as administrator but the store is always like this. If you close and re-open the store, I get the same green screen;
2 - I downloaded the tool Windows 8 App Troubleshooter which tells me that I have an outdated graphics driver. Is not true because I have installed the latest version.
3 - UAC is turned on but without success;
4 - I've turned my account as a local account and tried to open the shop but with the same result. I've reverted my account as linked to Microsoft.
5 - I created a new user account and with that account the store opens. I returned to my account and nothing.
6 - Finally I ran the SFC / SCANNOW and gave me this picture.

Jul 31, 2014I just built a secondary new work computer. Unlike my main rig which I just do a fresh install of 8.1. On this one I put Win 7 then Win 8 pro upgrade, once that's done I upgrade to 8.1 through store. thing is once I upgrade to 8.1 I notice pc settings and store wont open, if I click on them they flash and just return to desktop.

But it only seems to work on admin account.
I noticed same thing is happening with regular user account and the above fix does not work, in fact when I try and set permissions to system in registry step it mentions I get "Unable to set new owner on packages, access is denied"

As of a few days ago, none of the apps in the "windows" menu will open. My Store also will not boot. It opens, animates, and closes. I've tried many solutions, none of which have worked. *Note*: My resolution has not changed. It is still 1366x768.
Solutions I've tried:
1. Changing resolution: fail
2. Running "sfc /scannow" in CMD in admin mode. Result: stops at 53%, says it it unable to fix corrupted files
Also tried opening the .log file. Says I'm not an administrator, when I have set my profile to admin. (I am the only user)
3. Clean boot, attempted to "sfc /scannow": fail
4. Using Microsoft account and local account. (I used a local account originally and tried switching to an MS account. This did not fix it.)
5. System "Refresh": says it is unable to complete refresh after reboot.
6. UAC was not changed, although I tried playing with the settings. Did not work.
7. My Anti-Virus has not been modified in any way. No firewall should be affecting this.
8. This happens on any internet connection.
I really do not want to resort to restoring the computer to factory settings.

Every time I click on the Store tile it doesn't get past the green introductory screen before just disappearing (crashing).. Have restarted several times and used the link-through on the Windows 8.1 site. Also, I have since discovered that all apps won't open either (such as news and sports).

Dec 14, 2013I recently updated to a HP laptop with windows 8 and downloaded iTunes and transferred my music over which I can open and play, however when I try to go the iTunes store I get "iTunes has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." I never get any notification and I can't work out the problem, I have uninstalled and re-installed and still have the same issue.

Aug 12, 2014I have a Lenovo G505s AMD A8 Laptop, fairly new to Windows 8 as this is my first platform running it. Not had the system long, but generally finding it ok except for this one problem thats decided to arise:
All apps, including the Windows Store fail to launch when clicked. They display a splash screen but no loading symbol, the splash screen hangs for about a minute and then the whole app shuts off again. This started with the calculator from what I can see, but now it seems to affect all of them. I've tried multiple theories from several forums and sites but nothing has made a difference.
If possible I don't want to have to refresh or reinstall Windows 8 as I have a fair amount of software I've installed and don't want to have to go through installation all over again.

Mar 21, 2014I have 3 user accounts on my windows 8.1 laptop; 2 administrator types and 1 standard local account. While logged in using one of the admin user accounts or the local account, I can access the store app. However, when i log in using the other administrator account and try to access the store app, i just get the spinning circle and nothing happens. Is there something wrong with how one user account is set up that is causing the problem. Do I have to delete the user account and try re-establishing it.

Anyway, when I go to event viewer I get a message that says "One or more logs in the query have errors" and then is says the Log that it cannot find is "Microsoft-Windows-DxpTaskRingtone/Analytic". I have looked and the log does not exist and OF COURSE when I try to cheat the system and create the log it does not like the "/" in the name! Maintenance :: 8.0 Upgraded To 8.1 With System Restore?
Jan 17, 2014I installed 8.0 with the factory disk and for awhile the option to "refresh your pc" worked perfectly. However after the 8.1 update, I get a message stating to insert the 8.1 disk and it won't work with my regular 8.0 disk. I don't have an 8.1 disk. Is there a way to download an iso and use that to refresh the pc then use the original 8.0 key? I usually try to restore every 6 months because it's a habit I have had since 7. Usually my windows works fine but I run low on SSD space and it's easier to erase and restart everytime.

I was always able to login as a different user and use my work network user credentials i.e. workgroupusername. On this version I can do this. I can only add users once logged in and switch between them on the login screen.
This version doesn't show the 'login with different user' link. I've looked around the settings, but haven't had any luck with getting it to appear on the login screen.

Oct 24, 2013XPS-15 L521X running Windows 8 Pro. I have Intel Rapid Storage Manager installed and operating (thinking this may matter). I have tried 4 times to upgrade to 8.1, no-go. It completes the upgrade to the point of restarting after making all configurations (according to the message text), but on restart it goes from Dell logo to blank screen, though I can hear the disk churning, and the mouse shows when I swipe the keypad; mouse also shows a busy indicator. I tried leaving the system alone last night for 6 hours, but when I came back it was still churning on the blank screen. When I shut down the system via power button and re-booted, it restored the original windows 8 and gave me a message that the system could not be upgraded to 8.1.
I tried uninstalling my firewall/virus program and that didn't work. At this point I don't care to guess anymore... I may call tech support and see what they say. I see by others' posts around the internet that there seem to many problems upgrading to 8.1.

Oct 29, 2013I bought new lenovo ideapad Z400 touch 2 month ago with Windows 8. Last week i upgraded to win 8.1 and recover back to win 8 , since then i have some problems.
When I have the Task Manager open, I notice the disk usage climbing to 50, 75, 100 also the CPU , even though there's scarcely any disk activity going on, the laptop's fan is working harder and very noisy , my processor's speed and heat are jumping high without any programs on.
I tried almost anything, checked for viruses, disabled unnecessary startup programs, clean boot, but it still the same.

Jan 22, 2013Recently I upgraded my Toshiba Portege R500 laptop from Windows 7 to windows 8 pro. Everything worked fine for almost a month and since last few days I am not able to see login screen, its just blank. Since I am unable to login I cannot access the apps/programs neither I can shut the laptop from Windows 8 via Charm menu or Cntrl+Alt+Del.
I am stuck as I cannot reinstall the OS as when I use power down button on the laptop the machine goes to sleep and on power up I cannot access boot priority screen to change to optical drive.

Oct 28, 2013I originally had windows 8 prowmc licensed (I have the iso image for that in case I need to reinstall); I upgraded /updated from store free update; now I have a valid licensed 8.1 running; but I don't have an iso; and if I have to re-install, I have to install 8, activate it and again do a 3.5 gb download to update;
I read from DISM that I can make a install.wim image from the existing hdd OS partition; so is it possible to create an image for the existing 8.1 OS?

Nov 18, 2013I just upgraded to 8.1 and now a game that I play called theHunter wont launch. When I run the launcher it comes up with an error saying 'No Appropriate Display Modes'. It was working fine on Windows 8. The support at the Hunter hasn't been very useful and despite trying a number of different things I can't seem to solve this issue.
