How To Reset Bad Sector From NTFS Table

Mar 18, 2013

I have been having problems on my primary hdd, and after doing a full hdd scan, I found that I had some bad sectors, which caused some windows hangs, problems, and some bad file reads.

After googling for programs to recover and fix those bad sectors, I have found HDD Regenerator, which did a wonderful job, on fixing and recovering all my bad sector by using a patented algorithm to magnetize again those bad sectors on my hdd.

But after that, I still have marked on my ntfs partition those bad sectors, even tough they are ok now, how to I reset the bad sectors on my partition, to mark them as good to use, Without losing the contents of my hdd?

HP Notebook With GPT Partition Table?

Jan 29, 2013

i brought an HP Pavilion G6 and it comes with an GUID partition table (GPT), EFI and Secure Boot. However i need an MBR partition table, so i tried disk managerment but the option "convert to mbr" is greyed out and when i run the "diskpart - list disk - select disk 0 - convert mbr" i get an error "cannot convert a partition which has a pagefile on it" (disabling the pagefile didn t worked).

I guess my only other option is to format it, but the notepad comes with an lincesed Windows 8 which i dont wont to loose. So what are my options? I dont ave the CDs, as it s HP packet.

Update:I ve successfully formatted my Notebook. All i had to do is enter legacy mode, disable secure boot and boot from the Windows 7 DVD. So if you ave no intention using Win 8 it won t be a problem to "downgrade" in an UEFI/EFI System.

Apps / Software :: Bad Sector - Can't Open Program

Nov 28, 2013

I have been using a program called Family Tree Legends for years now, but just recently when I try to open the program I receive the following message: "This program has been damaged, possibly by a bad sector of the hard drive or a virus. Please reinstall it." I have removed the program and reinstalled it several times and it still won't work. It's a family tree program that I used almost daily and now I'm concerned I lost everything. I even tried to open the program via the administrator function but it still won't work.

It always fails to Clone/copy my current hard that has bad sectors, to a new hard disk. My present HDD is a 320GB and its health is really bad. I bought a new 500 hard disk and tried to clone and copy the whole HDD. I tried Paragon HDD Manager, O&O disk image and other two Software. All of them failed to clone or copy my old hard disk to new one.

What is the best solution. Paragon, copied data partially and gave an error at 80%. I tried few times and the same thing happened

Blue Screen - Boot Sector Keeps Getting Corrupted / Repair Freezes At 2%

Mar 6, 2013

Hey, for like the 8th time now I've had to format my computer due to a blue screen error. The last error was HAL.dll missing or corrupted. My boot sector or whatever the correct name for it is, keeps getting corrupted and it will never repair, it just freezes at 2% and keeps looping. The drive I am using is the Corsair 240GB FORCE 3 SSD and I am not sure if the problem is due to SSD being bad or my motherboard being too old. I have the ASUS Striker II Extreme...

My second problem is, on my latest format, Windows 8 refuses to activate, it claims I cannot do a clean install and this is what I have been doing all the time. The other thing is that I cannot complete a Windows update, when it restarts, it says it has failed and rolls back the changes. I am not sure if this is because it wont activate but.

Now Windows has a problem with showing my real location, so I am getting the wrong weather reports and so on. One more thing I forgot to mention, I can't even check my system rating. Last time I did I check before the format my system was rated as 6.6, that was my lowest rated hardware and that was the SSD. Is that a normal score for an SSD?

How To Restore Partition Table - Aspire V5 552p X440

Jul 30, 2014

I recently tried installing Ubuntu dual boot with my Windows installation as I had done with a previous system. I somehow failed to notice I had whole disk selected rather than the option for partition. Well. Obviously it wiped my whole disk along with my Windows 8 installation. I aborted the Ubuntu install progress right away and shut down, of course it was too late to save everything.

I resorted to Testdisk. It was able to find my C: (windows) and M: partitions, which I am able to restore in order to copy and access my data, but not simultaneously. It must be only C: (Acer) or M: at a time.

At this point my data is safe. My only concern now is fixing the Windows installation, I had neglected to create a recovery drive until after this headache transpired, and that was done with my friends Dell machine. I do not have any Windows 8 discs or drives, nor do I know how to aquire it without purchasing, which is not an option.

I suppose I'd like to know if I'm going to be able to boot Windows again, using testdisk to restore the proper partition table setup and (I don't need M:, it's been backed up)

I cannot restore or refresh the system via the recovery Usb created on the other pc as it reports the drive is locked.

Laptop is an Aspire V5-552p-x440.

I cannot access Acer Recovery.

Setup Installation :: How Does GPT Table Fit Into Backup / Recovery Scheme

Mar 19, 2013

I will be receiving a new laptop shortly, namely the Yoga 13, whose SSD is partitioned into no less than 8 partitions from the factory. I suppose the first thing I'd like to do is backup the entire drive with all its original partitions before I start messing with it. I've heard good things about the free version of Paragon, so I think I will use that with their USB boot key. Questions:

1. Would I indeed be able to restore the factory SSD *exactly* the way it was prior to backing up the entire disk, partitions and all, from an external USB drive?

2. How is a backup/restore related to the GPT table of the GPT disk? In other words, if I plan to wipe the disk and re-install Windows 8 from media, doesn't this Windows 8 install write to the GPT table? And if so, would a restore of the factory disk also restore that GPT table?

Windows 8.1 Can't Access NTFS Partitions

Dec 18, 2013

Suddenly Win 8.1 (on partition F) can't read anymore my other partions on the same drive, also it coudn't read my external USB drive.

When clicking on the partitions c: or d: it says 'cannot access local device' and 'device not ready'.

I have a dual boot system with Windows 7 and 8.1. I can boot into Windows 7 and read all partitions. I also checked the MBR which looks fine. I also have controlled in Computer Management that all drives have a letter assigned.

However Windows 8.1 can read my USB drives and the installation DVD of Windows 8.

Clicking on properties of e.g. drive c: there is of course no security tab, so it shouldn't be a question of permissions. Also no error codes in event log.

Booting in safe mode does still does not solve the problem. Of course Windows 8.1 can read perfectly its partition where it has been installed.

I know, a repair or refresh might be the solution, but if possible I want to avoid it.

Checked also with my different antivirus and spyware programs. All comes clean.

Windows 8 BSOD NTFS File System

Jan 19, 2014

I've had my Sony Laptop for under a year now, and it was working alright (with the occasional problem such as BSODs), but today after having hibernated the computer (never shutting down/restarting) for a month (because I went on holiday), I finally was forced to shut down by Windows update. However, when I booted up again, it signed me into a temporary user account. This had happened to me before, so I didn't think much of it, I tried to do a system restore, but came up with the error: 0x80070005. I tried different restore points, but they all yielded the same results.

Then I tried doing an sfc /scannow, which said nothing was wrong. I also scheduled a chkdsk /f/r for boot. Unfortunately it got stuck on 28% for over an hour. So I turned the computer off. When I turned it back on, I was unable to sign in: "The user profile service failed the sign in user profile cannot be loaded". So I restarted the computer. This is where it got really bad.

As soon as the computer boots up, it shows the loading signal then instantly goes to the Windows 8 BSOD saying that there was a problem with NTFS File System.

Now each time I boot up, it does the exact same thing. What do I do?? I haven't had this laptop for long. The laptop is still under warranty, am I able to get it fixed under warranty.

Apps / Software :: ISO Error - Disc Image Not Formatted For NTFS

Sep 15, 2014

OK, so I made a backup DVD of some OS related programs for my computers onto a DVD, but when I attempted to MOUNT the image from the disk to Win 8.1's included virtual drive, I get an error that the Disc Image is not formatted for NTFS file system, and cannot be mounted.

I can copy the files from the disc to a location on the desktop and execute the files from there, but it's a royal pain in the neck to do this every time.

(Yes, I understand, I probably will need to build a new image and burn it to a new DVD, but I want to make it one that I can run the disc from my optical drive and it will work!).

USB is volatile storage, and can be erased. I prefer hardcopy backups for this reason.

Hardware Drivers :: Format ExFAT USB Flash Drive To NTFS / FAT32?

Jan 3, 2014

It is a 64 GB Toshiba USB drive (TNU). Problem is that every time I try to format to NTFS the normal way with Windows 7 or Windows 8 I get the message: Windows was unable to complete the format.

I tried to format it using the specific software from the drive manufacturer, TNA.

A friend managed to format it to FAT32, but the next time I tried to access the drive Windows showed a message saying that I needed to format the drive to use it. Then there appeared only the exFAT option.

I also tried some partition software, like AOMEI Partition Assistant Standard Edition, and it could format to both FAT32 and NTFS, but when I removed and put the USB drive back Windows again warned me about the need to format and again I had only the exFAT option left.

AOMEI Partition Assistant Standard To Add A NTFS Partition To USB Drive

Jul 17, 2014

i'm using Windows 8 Home 64 Bit.

I used AOMEI Partition Assistant Standard to add a NTFS Partition to my USB drive. I want to store large files over 4GB on this partition, while having the rest of my files on the primary partition which is FAT32. The problem is, when I plug my drive into the computer it only shows the primary partition.

Is there any way to get Windows to show both partitions when I plug the device in? I want to be able to store files on both partitions.

After doing some research, I found that one possible way would be to set the USB device as a "Fixed disk". I was unable to figure out how to do this.

The device is a 32GB Silicon Power Blaze Removable Disk with USB 3.0.

After about 6 to 7 hours of waiting it still remained the same, even after restarting and trying many other methods to get it to work nothing happens and also it now keeps beeping every 10 to 15 seconds trying to connect my keyboard and mouse, after the beep the mouse and keyboard turn on (the lights on them go on) then after 3 seconds or so they turn off and it does this non stop, also my graphics card is a Radeon 7700 if that has anything to do with it.
