Debugging :: BSOD When Playing Any Game

Jul 23, 2014

I recently purchased a 2nd hand PC back in June and unfortunately have experienced about a dozen BSODs when playing games.
They seem to occur randomly. There has been times where I have been able to play games for hours without BSOD at all.

I thought it was an issue with my graphics card drivers so I updated them to the latest version (I believe AMD 14.2) but the Blue screens continued to happen. I restored the drivers back to default and that is what I am currently using.

Start Screen Shrunk After Playing / Quitting Game

Apr 27, 2013

After I play a game, no matter what game it is when I quit it my start screen looks like this.

As you can see I'm in quite a pickle, I want to start editing my start screen but I can't and it has nothing to do with the Start Screen wallpaper change because it was doing this before I even used the start screen customizer.

When Playing Game And Any Application Window Just Minimize Randomly

Jul 18, 2013

I have a problem. Sometimes when I'm playing a game or any other application, it will minimize without me doing anything. I did a scan with Malwarebytes and it found a virus, I removed it, but this behaviour still continues. I did a sfc /scannow and it found some files that were corrupt but couldn't be repaired. It told me to reboot my computer, and that's what I did but I don't know if the files were repaired or not.

Graphic Cards :: Crash And Video Hardware Error When Playing Games

May 10, 2013

I have a very serious issue with my brand new Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 GT 650M SLI system (specs at the bottom) . I can't play games at all because my system will lock up as soon as I enter the game, requiring a hard reset. My Windows Action Center is filled with Video Hardware Error reports. Is this because of a bad video card or is it a driver/software issue? I am on a clean install of Windows 8 Pro and have already tried the 314.22 WHQL and 320.00 BETA drivers. Nothing is overclocked.

Audio :: Game Audio Not Playing Through Headphones?

Jul 7, 2013

When my Turtlebeach x12 is plugged into my computer (runs Windows 8) and I try to launch some steam games the audio plays through the built-in speakers rather than my headset. I've played around with default devices and disabling/enabling different devices, but nothing has worked. In some games like Planetside 2, the in-game option to set the output device to the headphones works perfectly, but in most other games (e.g. Left for Dead), audio still plays out of my speakers. When I disable the speakers there is no game sound at all. This also wasn't an issue on my old laptop that runs Windows 7. Is there any way to here the game audio from my headset?

Debugging :: BSOD During Certain Game / General Use?

Jan 27, 2014

So the other day I turned on my computer and started up SWTOR. As the game was loading I got a BSOD, it disappeared too quick for my to see what it was so I started it up and it wanted to check my discs before windows started up so I let it. When windows popped up started up Chrome to see if I could get more info and it was saying it was corrupted. Eventually it crashed on me again so I got out my phone and snapped a shot (imgur: the simple image sharer). Looked up the code and it suggested hard drive failure or corrupted system files.

So I decided to clean install Windows 7 (which I was using at the time) and see if the problem persist. I eventually got the same BSOD during while installing some programs. Then I downloaded the seagate utilities to check my hard drive to see if it it had a problem. First test caused a crash, second test passed, and third and fourth test also caused a crash. Figuring my hard drive was shot picked up a new one today and installed Windows 8.1 to try it out. Everything was going fine during minimal use so I decide to try something a little more and installed SWTOR again. The computer shut off this time with no BSOD while it was nearing the end of the install. Booted it back up, finished the install, and then started it up. Each time while it was loading it would shut off.

What ever the problem was I think is still persisting but is no longer giving a BSOD I think due to the OS change. Im not sure where to go from here to find a solution.

Original BSOD Code: 0x00000f4 (0x0000000000000003 0xfffffa800a1deb30 0xfffffa800a1dee10 0xfffff800035d5d80)

Debugging :: Computer Rebooting When Running A Game

Jun 9, 2014

I have currently been experiencing a new problem with my PC. This problem occurs when I am running any game on my computer. When running a game for a few minutes, my tower begins to make a loud noise, which I assume is caused by the fans spinning faster and faster inside, then my display monitor goes black but then notifies me with a "no signal" message. While this is happening, my tower is still on as the power button still has back lighting, in fact the back lighting never disappears unless I physically have to turn my PC off.

I would say I have been experiencing this problem fairly recently - about a week ago this problem arose. The reboot only ever occurs when I am running a game and not when I am browsing the internet, watching videos, running other programs like Word or Skype etc...

The games I am running also had the video settings on high and I have noticed that when I put the video settings on low it buys me a little more time before my system reboots.

It was solved, up untill I started having errors again yesterday, "KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR"s.

It happens whenever a game I play (or try to, atm) is in it's loading screen. The name of the game is "The Secret World".

Now it also crashes whenever the windows updates start installing on the restart after their download, with the message "C:WINDOWSSystem32LogfilesSrtSrtTrail.txt".

Debugging :: Crash On Wake From Long Sleep

May 11, 2014

I usually boot my machine in the morning, use it for a bit and then leave for work. After a time, the machine goes to sleep. About 5 or 6 hours latter, WMC wakes the machine to record a TV show. The recording never happens. When I get home, the machine is one but unresponsive with no display. The power button does not shut the machine down. I have to long hold the power button to kill the machine. In addition, if the machine sleeps for a shorter period and I wake it with the mouse, it crashes and restarts. I had to look at a log to find out that the machine restarted because, again, no display.

What I've done:
Updated the BIOS
sfc /scannow (revealed errors)
... /RestoreHealth (fixed errors)
Drive and memory diagnostics
Checked my problem against this forum which revealed other crash at wake threads but I'm not able to interpret the log file...

Attached is my sf debug tool output

Brand new Dell laptop - barley setup let alone used.

Graphics drivers & windows 8.1 service packs updated.

Appears to be graphics related and occurs when using apps that would require the higher performance settings only. Crashes appear to be seeming random and often occur when i'm not even in front of the computer can occur immediately starting an app or an hour later.
