Debugging :: DPC Watchdog Violation Occurring In Pirates Game

Feb 15, 2014

So, I recently installed Sid Meier's Pirates on my new laptop. Unfortunately, the game has frozen three times so far during action sequences, causing DPC Watchdog Violations and a restart of the computer. Any way to diagnose from error Files what the specific problem I'm having might be.

I've installed win 8 consumer release not long ago, and the windows keep crash from time to time with and says to search for dpc watchdog violation for more info.

Aafter the PC is restarting it says that the problem was with memory.dmp.

At the beginning it happened once in a few weeks so I didn't care but now it happens more often which in not good!
before the crash itself happens the PC freeze and make some weird buzz-like sound, sometime it keeps working after but sometime it crash.

Debugging :: 2 Kernel Security Check Failure And 1 DPC Watchdog Violation

Apr 4, 2014

Within the last 24 hours I received 2 Kernel Security Check Failures and 1 DPC Watchdog Violation. As best I can tell, the first Kernel error was while I was installing Dropbox. I received it again when I was trying to remove the SF Diagnostic Tool from my machine. I received the Watchdog Violation while restarting Reimage software. The following output from the SF Diagnostic Tool is from *after* these 3 errors and is also after Reimage finally finished fixing all it found and came up clean on a rerun.

Debugging :: Multiple BSODs Occurring Mainly During Startup

Sep 15, 2014

Recently my computer has been crashing multiple times with BSOD errors, quite a few of them are different to each other. Here is a couple of BSODs I've noted down, although I guess they'll be in the dump files:

- BAD_POOL_HEADER
- IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
- nvlddmkm.sys (pretty sure it was this or similar to)

There were a few others as well. Like I mentioned in the title, most occur whilst the computer is booting up. The computer mostly crashes just after the boot options are shown or just as the lock screen appears. I've added the diagnostic files so you can view them.

I'm pretty sure these started happening after my house had a power cut a week ago, and my computer was on at the time (so it was shutdown instantly). I wiped my computer and reinstalled Windows a few days ago, however I'm still getting the BSODs. Also, the computers crashed in other ways - for example, I was on it two days ago and everything connected to the computer died (mouse, keyboard, monitor), as in they stopped connecting to the computer. As well as this, on the same day I tried using it and it went to a darkish brown screen.

As you can see, its in a bit of a state. However, I am generally able to use it after one or two crashes and restarting it.

Debugging :: Randomly Occurring BSOD With Different Error Codes?

Feb 21, 2014

My computer Bluescreens very randomly without giving much information on what caused it.I can sometimes go a full day without a single bsod and somedays I get 10 within 30 mins. Only connection I've (maybe) figured out is that all these bsod's seem to happen when my comp is connected to internet and either downloading something or sending something. Like when I log into games and try to connect into a server i get bsod...or if I don't I can play that game for hours only to get the bsod when I quit game and return to desktop. Sometimes using chrome just to browse web or switching tracks on spotify can cause issues aswell.

My computer was first bought and build around 2012 with some upgrades such as more ram and new GPU. I've ran this comp with a stable OC of 4.0/4.0 and never before having any problems with either my system heating up or freezing. Now I've returned to stock clocks to rule out any unstable oc.

I'v done pretty much all i know about debugging and trying to figure out which programs/drivers/hardware are causing my system to be so randomly unstable. My head keeps telling me this is some driver related cause it started what seems to be "all of a sudden"

Things I've done:
Return stock OC
Ran memtest for 14 passes = 0 errors
Ran Prime for ~4 hours = 0 errors and temps maxed at 60 c

Debugging :: BSODs Occurring Randomly On Windows 8 Pro - 0x0000001a

Nov 28, 2013

The problem I am having is being caused by ntoskrnl.exe And I believe this is a major problem. Before it gets out of hand I have come to this area to report it.

As you will see from the .dmp files I have uploaded, I am having issues around every 20mins -1 hour.

I have only recently installed Windows 8 Pro, to avoid BSOD's as I have been experiencing an overload of them on my Windows 7 Installation. To be safe I have made a dual boot to avoid file deletion, so I can also upload those .dmp's if you wish.

This computer isn't even a month old and it is acting up. A common "Bug Check Code" is 0x0000000a. This was on Windows 7. Now a common "Bug Check Code" is 0x0000001a.

I have been using an application called BlueScreenView to access and see what Codes I've been receiving. I've been signing into Windows 8 using a email address I created.

Debugging :: BSOD Randomly Occurring - Code 0x00000019

May 8, 2014

My computer has been randomly crashing for almost 1 week now. I initially thought it was caused by Avast, but uninstalling it didn't solve the problem. I then updated my network card driver as suggested by an error in one of the dump files, but that too wouldn't do it. I ran the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter, shut off the computer for 3 hours in hopes for it to cool off, but no luck there either. I remember having this problem 1 year ago and I was advised then to update my graphics card driver , but the update process wouldn't complete successfully. The computer always crashed each time before the finish line, so I was advised to use the OS generic driver instead and I've lived in peace ever since until this issue resurfaced ~1 week ago.

Latest crash: The latest BSOD crash occurred today at 6:53 AM EST and here's what could explain the problem according to BlueScreenView:

Bug Check String: BAD_POOL_HEADER
Bug Check Code: 0x00000019
Caused By Driver: ntoskrnl.exe
Caused By Address: ntoskrnl.exe+7b340
File Description: NT Kernel & System

Here are my environment details:
OS: Windows 8
Processor: AMD Athlon || X4 635 2.9 GHz, 64-bit
RAM: 14.0 GB (13.7 GB Usable) => custom installed
Display driver: ATI Radeon HD 4200 (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM v1.1) => As explained above.
Make: HP Pavilion p6520f
Browser: FF 29 (same issue with the latest release of Chrome and IE 10)

I've also attached a zip of the dump files.

Debugging :: BSOD During Certain Game / General Use?

Jan 27, 2014

So the other day I turned on my computer and started up SWTOR. As the game was loading I got a BSOD, it disappeared too quick for my to see what it was so I started it up and it wanted to check my discs before windows started up so I let it. When windows popped up started up Chrome to see if I could get more info and it was saying it was corrupted. Eventually it crashed on me again so I got out my phone and snapped a shot (imgur: the simple image sharer). Looked up the code and it suggested hard drive failure or corrupted system files.

So I decided to clean install Windows 7 (which I was using at the time) and see if the problem persist. I eventually got the same BSOD during while installing some programs. Then I downloaded the seagate utilities to check my hard drive to see if it it had a problem. First test caused a crash, second test passed, and third and fourth test also caused a crash. Figuring my hard drive was shot picked up a new one today and installed Windows 8.1 to try it out. Everything was going fine during minimal use so I decide to try something a little more and installed SWTOR again. The computer shut off this time with no BSOD while it was nearing the end of the install. Booted it back up, finished the install, and then started it up. Each time while it was loading it would shut off.

What ever the problem was I think is still persisting but is no longer giving a BSOD I think due to the OS change. Im not sure where to go from here to find a solution.

Original BSOD Code: 0x00000f4 (0x0000000000000003 0xfffffa800a1deb30 0xfffffa800a1dee10 0xfffff800035d5d80)

Debugging :: BSOD When Playing Any Game

Jul 23, 2014

I recently purchased a 2nd hand PC back in June and unfortunately have experienced about a dozen BSODs when playing games.
They seem to occur randomly. There has been times where I have been able to play games for hours without BSOD at all.

I thought it was an issue with my graphics card drivers so I updated them to the latest version (I believe AMD 14.2) but the Blue screens continued to happen. I restored the drivers back to default and that is what I am currently using.

Debugging :: Computer Rebooting When Running A Game

Jun 9, 2014

I have currently been experiencing a new problem with my PC. This problem occurs when I am running any game on my computer. When running a game for a few minutes, my tower begins to make a loud noise, which I assume is caused by the fans spinning faster and faster inside, then my display monitor goes black but then notifies me with a "no signal" message. While this is happening, my tower is still on as the power button still has back lighting, in fact the back lighting never disappears unless I physically have to turn my PC off.

I would say I have been experiencing this problem fairly recently - about a week ago this problem arose. The reboot only ever occurs when I am running a game and not when I am browsing the internet, watching videos, running other programs like Word or Skype etc...

The games I am running also had the video settings on high and I have noticed that when I put the video settings on low it buys me a little more time before my system reboots.

Debugging :: BSOD When Capturing Game-play With Shadow-play / Bandicam / Fraps

May 25, 2014

I just got my new laptop, it came without an OS, so I installed Windows 8.1 Pro.

I've only got BSOD so far when:

-Recording Counter-Strike Source with either NVIDIA Shadowplay, Fraps or Bandicam. It happens allmost instantly after starting recording (about 15-30 seconds).

.Just playing Asphalt 8: Airborne (from the store). One time I got BSOD almost instantly, another time I played for a couple of minutes before I exited the game myself.

I did not get BSOD when:

-Playing Counter-Strike Source and using Skype (and not recording).

-Recording Arma 3 (recorded for 1 hour).

These are the erros I've been able to capture (when playing CSS and recording):

BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
ATTEMPTED_EXECUTE_OF_NOEXECUTE_MEMORY
KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE
PFN_LIST_CORRUPT
KMODE_EXEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (win32k.sys)
KMODE_EXEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
MEMORY_MANAGEMENT

And I also did ran Memtest86+ twice: [URL] ....

When Create File In C Drive It Throws Access Violation Error?

I am facing several weird problems in my Windows 8.1 installation. My first problem is that when I try to copy/create a file to my C: drive it throws an access violation error.

But this not the case if I copy/create a file in any of sub directories in C:. For example I can copy/create files to system32 or program files with any such problems.

My second problem is that I no longer get a popup when I connect a external HDD to my system. It doesn't even show up in "My Computer" I have to open up disk management and then assign a drive letter to the external HDD then only will it show up in File Explorer.

Secure Boot Violation Error After Recent Windows Updates

Sep 15, 2014

I own an Asus laptop with pre-installed Windows 8.1 and, after downloading & installing recent Windows updates (20th of September 2014, if memory serves me correctly), I am unable to access desktop because system freezes at boot sequence returning me this error: "Secure Boot Violation. Invalid signature detected. Check Secure Boot Policy in Setup" printed inside a small red box.

After googling around, someone suggested to disable "Secure Boot" from BIOS and enable "Launch CSM". I performed such operations but I got no results (BIOS menu automatically appears after every reboot). Someone else suggested to change boot sequence and start system from a Recovery CD but I got no CD supplied with my laptop as Asus stopped providing CDs from very long time AFAIK.

I am quite sure problem relies on Windows Updates because I used this Laptop very little times and no p2p or hacked programs are installed. In addition to that, as far as I read, it seems other Win users experienced the same issue after installing WinUpdates but they have different BIOS so is not easy for me to understand my BIOS accordingly to what they do in their own BIOS in order to solve issue.

What annoys me most is that I bought this Laptop in July 2014 and, just three months later, it got freezes because of official Windows Updates and not because of bad behaviour of user.
