Debugging :: Computer Rebooting When Running A Game
Jun 9, 2014
I have currently been experiencing a new problem with my PC. This problem occurs when I am running any game on my computer. When running a game for a few minutes, my tower begins to make a loud noise, which I assume is caused by the fans spinning faster and faster inside, then my display monitor goes black but then notifies me with a "no signal" message. While this is happening, my tower is still on as the power button still has back lighting, in fact the back lighting never disappears unless I physically have to turn my PC off.
I would say I have been experiencing this problem fairly recently - about a week ago this problem arose. The reboot only ever occurs when I am running a game and not when I am browsing the internet, watching videos, running other programs like Word or Skype etc...
The games I am running also had the video settings on high and I have noticed that when I put the video settings on low it buys me a little more time before my system reboots.

So the other day I turned on my computer and started up SWTOR. As the game was loading I got a BSOD, it disappeared too quick for my to see what it was so I started it up and it wanted to check my discs before windows started up so I let it. When windows popped up started up Chrome to see if I could get more info and it was saying it was corrupted. Eventually it crashed on me again so I got out my phone and snapped a shot (imgur: the simple image sharer). Looked up the code and it suggested hard drive failure or corrupted system files.
So I decided to clean install Windows 7 (which I was using at the time) and see if the problem persist. I eventually got the same BSOD during while installing some programs. Then I downloaded the seagate utilities to check my hard drive to see if it it had a problem. First test caused a crash, second test passed, and third and fourth test also caused a crash. Figuring my hard drive was shot picked up a new one today and installed Windows 8.1 to try it out. Everything was going fine during minimal use so I decide to try something a little more and installed SWTOR again. The computer shut off this time with no BSOD while it was nearing the end of the install. Booted it back up, finished the install, and then started it up. Each time while it was loading it would shut off.
What ever the problem was I think is still persisting but is no longer giving a BSOD I think due to the OS change. Im not sure where to go from here to find a solution.
Original BSOD Code: 0x00000f4 (0x0000000000000003 0xfffffa800a1deb30 0xfffffa800a1dee10 0xfffff800035d5d80)

I recently purchased a 2nd hand PC back in June and unfortunately have experienced about a dozen BSODs when playing games.
They seem to occur randomly. There has been times where I have been able to play games for hours without BSOD at all.
I thought it was an issue with my graphics card drivers so I updated them to the latest version (I believe AMD 14.2) but the Blue screens continued to happen. I restored the drivers back to default and that is what I am currently using.

The past few days i've been having a lot of errors, which even made my computer go super slow, which made me reset most of the computer files.
It was solved, up untill I started having errors again yesterday, "KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR"s.
It happens whenever a game I play (or try to, atm) is in it's loading screen. The name of the game is "The Secret World".
Now it also crashes whenever the windows updates start installing on the restart after their download, with the message "C:WINDOWSSystem32LogfilesSrtSrtTrail.txt".

So, I recently installed Sid Meier's Pirates on my new laptop. Unfortunately, the game has frozen three times so far during action sequences, causing DPC Watchdog Violations and a restart of the computer. Any way to diagnose from error Files what the specific problem I'm having might be.

I seem to keep having random BSOD'S on windows startup showing a Kernal_Security_Check_Failure and in event viewer it is showing as Bug_Check_Code 313, what is causing this.
I also seem to be randomly getting BSOD'S while either exiting/starting a game or loading up Unity (Game engine).
As stated in the instructions above I have used the SF_Diagnostic_Tool and have attached the contents to this post.

I have had some issues with my laptop running very hot even when it's not used. I figured out that it was because of my cpu running at around 80% all the time. This of course, is causing a cpu idle temp of around 65c and a quickly depleted battery.
The computer (a Sony VAIO SVS1513C5E) have two modes (Stamina and speed) that switches between silence mode (low effect and integrated graphics) and high performance mode (hybrid graphics, high performance). CPU temp is at 65c when running in 'silence' mode (can't say that it is very silent, given the fanspeed to cool down the computer). High performance increases this to 75c (still idling!), and increases the fan volume by quite a lot.
I did scan it with windows defender, without anything coming up. I am also running process explorer at the moment, it says that system is using ~20% cpu, services.exe a tad above 20% and around 20% idle. The rest of the processes are using a total of around 2-3%, leaving 37% (?). The 20% from services.exe seems to be mostly svchost and some intel bluethoot driver (that I will be uninstalling, as I dont use bluethoot anyways).

I'm running windows 8.0 and recently for some reason my computer's disk usage is constantly running at 100%. It will dip once every minute or so and load whatever I've clicked or typed and then freeze again.
I've looked extensively online and there is no exclusive cause or reason for this and seems to be a very tricky issue but I will explain what I have done so far:
Disabled Supefetch and Windows Search
Ran chkdsk f command numerous times
Disabled and deleted the page file (that was setting limits)
Tried defragging, disabling firewalls, etc.
Made exceptions for some files that may have been causing issues in automatic scans.
Been told numerous times to open Resource Monitor and check what's doing it and there are numerous things running at different times that this occurs, some are: NTFS Free Space Map, NTFS Master File Table, NTUSER.DAT files, random log files. There is no consistency.
Basic specs:
Windows 8.0 64-bit, 8GB Ram

Lately my computer has been distorting sounds and been going slower than it used to. When I restart the computer, the amount of distortions/small sizzling sounds is at a minimum, but it increases as I continue to use the computer. I googled how to fix this and one of the suggestions was to run a system file checker. The result of the scan was that I have some corrupted files that the computer could not remove. I also go a sfcdetails.txt file that showed all the information in the scan. How to find the corrupted files/what I should do to remove the files. I have attached the sfcdetails.txt file and a screen shot of the SFC results right from the command prompt.

I just got my new laptop, it came without an OS, so I installed Windows 8.1 Pro.
I've only got BSOD so far when:
-Recording Counter-Strike Source with either NVIDIA Shadowplay, Fraps or Bandicam. It happens allmost instantly after starting recording (about 15-30 seconds).
.Just playing Asphalt 8: Airborne (from the store). One time I got BSOD almost instantly, another time I played for a couple of minutes before I exited the game myself.
I did not get BSOD when:
-Playing Counter-Strike Source and using Skype (and not recording).
-Recording Arma 3 (recorded for 1 hour).
These are the erros I've been able to capture (when playing CSS and recording):
BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
ATTEMPTED_EXECUTE_OF_NOEXECUTE_MEMORY
KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE
PFN_LIST_CORRUPT
KMODE_EXEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (win32k.sys)
KMODE_EXEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
MEMORY_MANAGEMENT
And I also did ran Memtest86+ twice: [URL] ....

I had to boot into safe mode for virus removal and now all it will do is boot and start safe mode, then reboot again. It just keep doing it over and over. This is a new upgrade to a windows 7 pro OS and I am using 8 pro.
Cannot boot in normal mode. Tried to do that by going into the advanced repair and doing a normal startup, just keeps going back to safe mode and as soon as the screen starts to open it reboots.

If I leave my Windows 8.1 PC unattended for even a short while, I find I have to push reset button to get it going again. The taskbar experiences changes in that desktop apps will not work, whereas metro apps will work. The only solution I've found so far is the reset button. This occurs often during any given day.

I have been using Windows 8 for over 1 year now. My computer took an update yesterday and tried to reboot. Now all I get is Windows is configuring your updates....goes from 0-30% and then it restarts. Keeps cycling forever.
I have an AMD quad core 9600, Gigabyte MB, 4GB ram, SSD drive.
I have tried to put in the Windows install/repair DVD and system restore says I need to restart choose an operating system. The repair option starts with diagnosing your PC then after 5 minutes it just restarts.
I can not due a fresh install....need my data.

I have had BSOD problems on and off since I got this machine, but recently, it only happens after running my Pro Tools software for a little while, usually about 10-15 minutes in (Pro Tools 11.2, but it also happened similarly with PT 9.0.6). The program slows, stutters and freezes, eventually going to a BSOD with the error IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL .
My "workaround" has been to use a different software solution (StudioOne), which seems to work flawlessly, but I would really like to use the more professional and expensive software that I own and paid really good money for.
I have tried several "fixes" such as running "sfc /scannow" several times along with the DISM command line repairs, always with errors unresolved. Attached is my SF file, zipped and renamed to my forum username.

Sometimes when I open the Aion patcher, after a while, and with everything working normaly it just BSOD.
In the BSOD can be read kernel_data_inpage_error.
BlueScreenView reports ntoskrnl.exe in all the crashes and in this last one it also reports cdrom.sys.
Also I don't have this problem after I get in game or with any other games.

I've been having a big problem in that my computer kept crashing with a BSOD, usually related to ndis.sys. I tried removing all the drivers and reinstalling with the latest. Same problem. My PC manufacturer sent me a replacement network card. Same problem. After reading various things online, I suspected that openvpn might be a problem so I uninstalled it. No more crashes since.
Obviously I want to be able to use my VPN. I tried setting it up through the network and sharing center but I get error messages when I try to connect.
I can't run the tool as I've uninstalled OpenVPN, although I guess I can reinstall .
I tried to attach a couple of minidump files, but it wouldn't let me.
I'm running Windows 8.1 on a fairly high speced laptop. I have a killer networks network card and I'm connecting over wifi.
I also have avast internet security installed, but as I say, as soon as I uninstalled openvpn and the other Private Internet Access files the problem stopped.
