Nov 16, 2012

I'm sure alot of people have already asked about this, but I tried their solutions to get no results. Whenever I put my computer to sleep, it would reboot, and I'd get this message:

Windows 8 Rebooting Loop

Sep 13, 2013

I have been using Windows 8 for over 1 year now. My computer took an update yesterday and tried to reboot. Now all I get is Windows is configuring your updates....goes from 0-30% and then it restarts. Keeps cycling forever.

I have an AMD quad core 9600, Gigabyte MB, 4GB ram, SSD drive.

I have tried to put in the Windows install/repair DVD and system restore says I need to restart choose an operating system. The repair option starts with diagnosing your PC then after 5 minutes it just restarts.

I can not due a fresh install....need my data.

Windows 8.1 - Rebooting When System Is In Idle For A Time?

Sep 15, 2014

when i leave my system in idle for an hour or two, it reboots without any BSOD, or any error messages. My rig is 5 year-old, and always worked perfectly with Windows 7, without any strange issues.

When i'm working, Win 8.1 works absolutely perfect for long long hours.. rendering video, playing games etc.. i never found a BSOD or random reboot.I did the following to try to solve this problem, without success:

- Changing my PSU.

- Changing the Win 8 energy plan to Maximum Performance (hard disks never turn off)

- Memtest for 16+ hours, without any error.

My guess is there are some Windows 8.1 feature that doesn't fit well with my mobo, but i can't find it. I have also the same version of Win 8.1 installed in another older rig, and works 100% perfect during days (working and idle). This is my problematic rig:

Gigabyte P55-A UD6, BIOS F12c Beta (the last available from Gigabyte)
G-Skill Ripjaws DDR3 2000 8Gb (2x4Gb)
Intel Core i7 860 Lynnfield
Sapphire Radeon HD 7950 3GB GDDR5
Corsair Force 3 180 Gb (firmware updated)
Creative X-Fi Titanium

Hardware Drivers :: Extreme Slow Rebooting Speed After Windows Update

Feb 12, 2014

After spending a lot of time isolating the specific update that was giving me the extremely slow reboot time, (from 5 seconds to 150 seconds after update) I was able to determine that Windows optional update -Qualcomm Atheroos Communication - Bluetooth Controller - Qualcomm Atheros AR3012 Bluetooth 4.0 + HS was the cause of the lag.

Any solution to the lag. from 5 seconds to nearly 3 minutes is a substantial lag in restarting the computer.

The computer is a MSI GS70 229US.

Win 8 Pro - Keeps Rebooting In Safe Mode

Apr 4, 2013

I had to boot into safe mode for virus removal and now all it will do is boot and start safe mode, then reboot again. It just keep doing it over and over. This is a new upgrade to a windows 7 pro OS and I am using 8 pro.

Cannot boot in normal mode. Tried to do that by going into the advanced repair and doing a normal startup, just keeps going back to safe mode and as soon as the screen starts to open it reboots.

Rebooting With Win 8.1 After PC Left Unattended

Jul 10, 2014

If I leave my Windows 8.1 PC unattended for even a short while, I find I have to push reset button to get it going again. The taskbar experiences changes in that desktop apps will not work, whereas metro apps will work. The only solution I've found so far is the reset button. This occurs often during any given day.

Debugging :: Computer Rebooting When Running A Game

Jun 9, 2014

I have currently been experiencing a new problem with my PC. This problem occurs when I am running any game on my computer. When running a game for a few minutes, my tower begins to make a loud noise, which I assume is caused by the fans spinning faster and faster inside, then my display monitor goes black but then notifies me with a "no signal" message. While this is happening, my tower is still on as the power button still has back lighting, in fact the back lighting never disappears unless I physically have to turn my PC off.

I would say I have been experiencing this problem fairly recently - about a week ago this problem arose. The reboot only ever occurs when I am running a game and not when I am browsing the internet, watching videos, running other programs like Word or Skype etc...

The games I am running also had the video settings on high and I have noticed that when I put the video settings on low it buys me a little more time before my system reboots.

Auto Sleep Mode Works But Manual Sleep Not?

Apr 25, 2014

When I leave my computer after a session, it automatically goes into sleep mode after a period of time and remains that way till I wake it up.

However when I manually put it to sleep ( via shutdown options) , it goes to sleep immediately but for only a while ( a few minutes) then it shows the desktop screen again. If I then leave it alone after it self awake , it goes back to sleep as described above.

Audio :: No Audio Over Hdmi Without Rebooting?

Oct 23, 2013

I just want to clarify that this didn't occur before updating to windows 8.1. Before the update my sound would switch between the tv and the laptop speakers automatically when as I unplug and plug in my hdmi cable. Now, I put my laptop to sleep when not in use or when transporting for obvious reasons and I really don't want to have to reboot every time I connect my tv.

Now my problem is, every time I plug in my tv, I get the usual switch over but the audio never gets to the tv. It shows up as usual in the playback devices and is the default. I'm not sure if it's drivers and ASUS doesn't have any audio drivers up for windows 8.1. I have read that this is a common problem with everyone. I'm not sure what else to do other than go through a lengthy process to backup and factory install my laptop back to 8 or wait for updated drivers.

The laptop: ASUS K55A w/ 8gb ram and upgraded wireless card.

Windows 8.1 Not Waking Up From Sleep

Since upgrading from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 the computer is not always waking up from sleep and hangs.

The only solution I have found is to turn off the power and reboot.

The wait cursor shows and the computer will not respond to any keys such as Ctrl Alt Delete or the Windows Key.

Windows 8.1.1 Won't Sleep Or Shutdown?

Jun 29, 2014

Something changed in the last week or so that has caused the system to sometimes not automatically go to sleep and when it does not go to sleep after the selected time it won't shutdown either. When this happens and I try to shutdown the system it shuts down but then immediately reboots on it's own. This has only happened two or three times in the last week but I never had this issue until recently! It appears like I can either turn off the power via the power supply and restart to make the problem go away or if I manually put it to sleep and wake up it will power down - at least that is what worked the last time this happened. I did install update KB2962409 around the time the problem appeared?

Windows 8 Goes To Sleep Despite Having Been DISABLED

Jan 30, 2013

I've been using Windows 8 for almost a month now and it's been great. But, since around 4am today (ICT), this popped out of nowhere: Windows goes to sleep despite the Power Options being set to disable sleep both while on AC power and on battery. I have also checked the Advanced Power Options as well, and it confirmed the settings. I only left the laptop for about half an hour just to come back and found out it has gone to sleep mode, and Event Viewer says the system went to sleep from being idle!! I've included a screenshot as well just to clarify that this isn't a sort of common mistakes.

Windows 8.1 Does Not Go To Sleep / Standby Automatically

Oct 18, 2013

I recently did a clean install of Windows 8.1 Pro x64. Before doing the clean install, all hardware being identical, my Windows 8 was ran smoothly and went to sleep fine automatically after 8 minutes, and 20 minutes later into hibernation.

Now, after the clean install, although I believe I have installed and set up everything as before, the computer does not reach standby automatically anymore. I do not seem to be able to figure out why this is, or how my configuration is different than before. I do not mean to claim that it's Win 8.1's fault (I hope it isn't, because otherwise it would mean that the solution is out of my hands), but it is much more likely that during the lengthy clean install, program installation and configuration process some things have ended up being set up differently than before.

I'd like to figure out how to approach the solution-finding process in a systematic manner as obviously there are many possible culprits that I would like to eliminate one by one. For example, you can find many single tips on the web on this subject, but we would rather need a clear to-do list of what to check. E.g., how can the event logs be used to find the error?

Startup Gets To Windows Logo But Not Further Unless Sleep?

Feb 18, 2014

After installing a clean install of Windows 8 on my Dell Inspirion N5050, startup does get past the Dell logo and onto the Windows loading logo. However, it won't go further than this. The logo goes away, leaving the screen blank (NOT black) and it won't continue to the logon page or start menu. All lights are burning (meaning it's working somewhere underneath that weird blank screen). And the funny thing that when I press the power button (or close the lid) to put it to sleep and then wake it up by pressing again, the logon/start menu is there and Windows is working perfectly.

In short: everything works perfectly, except that I have to put the computer to sleep and wake it back up in order for me to see/get into windows.

Windows 8.1 Pro - Display Won't Resume After Sleep

Sep 15, 2014

I have run into an issue with a Pavilion g60-230us laptop. After going to sleep or closing the lid, when I open the lid again the laptop wakes up, but the display never resumes. I can see it kind of try to come on, but nothing ever shows on the screen. I am currently on Windows 8.1 Pro. The system is 32 bit and not running a separate display adapter, just the integrated Intel configuration. I have tried downloading the latest Windows 7 driver from the HP support page for the g60 but it didn't work. They don't offer drivers for Windows 8 on this model. I have also deleted the display in device manager, rebooted and let Windows find and install its own driver, but this also didn't work. Keyboard and mouse both have the box checked for allow this device to wake the computer in the power settings.

Windows 8.1 Refuses To Sleep / Shutdown

Jul 14, 2013

Windows 8.1(full fresh install) will not go to sleep/shut down etc. This has been happening since I installed 8.1 a few weeks back. It works/worked fine in Windows 7 and windows 8.0 till this install. I have narrowed it down to the Ethernet Chipset ( on board Realtec RTL8110 SC )

All the settings in the device manager the powercfg commands etc etc. Disabling in device manager does not work either ...

Then today I have found out that when you take the Ethernet Cable out of the computer............it goes to sleep. Why did I not try this before? ? ? When I remove the cable from the router, it stays awake when plugged in at the computer end.

Once asleep it stays that way and if I get it to sleep by other means - PWR ButtonSleep Option in W 8.1, it stays sleeping.

Windows 8 Sleep / Wake / Restart And Shutdown?

Jan 15, 2013

Any magic keystroke combination for "Sleep" or is there anyway to create one? I know about Win+I then Power then Sleep.

Any option to stop scheduled tasks or other triggers that "Wake" your computer from sleep? I find my computer running in the morning after putting it to sleep at the end of the previous evening! I have reviewed all 41 scheduled tasks created by Windows and installed applications and "apps" and found none that have the Wake Computer check box checked. What's annoying is the fact that once woken the computer does not go back to sleep again! I am using the supplied balanced Power plan.
