View 1 RepliesSometimes when my computer goes to sleep and I reactivate it some of my task bar options are lost
The date & display is no longer present neither is the volume control or my wifi display.
Also when this takes place I can no longer open any programs that are in the task bar I can simply click on them but nothing happens and when I attempt to open task manager it does not work I simply receive a black screen.
The only solution I have found so far is to restart and this solves the problem.
This is a new computer and I have only been using it for two or three days.
Have power options set to never sleep but it still does after about 20 minutes and I need to re-enter password to get going again.

Sometimes it goes to sleep, other times it doesn't. I don't know how to resolve this issue. Also, what is the general feeling about having the computer go to sleep and any pros or cons.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased an Asus N56VJ with Windows 8 pre-installed. At first I was trying to downgrade to Windows 7, but could not get past the windows splash screen trying to do a clean install . Anyway, while I was trying to figure out how to install windows 7, I was messing around in the bios. I decided to just stick with the Windows 8, but my bios is screwed up. I do not have any boot configuration options anymore. I tried to flash my bios, but the bios was still the same. I did a full reset on my machine, and still no change in the bios. Is there any way to get my bios options back to the factory settings with all the options?
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I leave my computer after a session, it automatically goes into sleep mode after a period of time and remains that way till I wake it up.
However when I manually put it to sleep ( via shutdown options) , it goes to sleep immediately but for only a while ( a few minutes) then it shows the desktop screen again. If I then leave it alone after it self awake , it goes back to sleep as described above.
my current issue is not waking up, every night I put my pc to sleep and the next morning when I click the mouse or push a key either nothing happens or the tower lights up and fans kick on but the screen stays black. and I must power down and restart
I have all new video drivers, I have a feeling it may be my keyboard because sometimes the keyboard doesn't shut down when the pc is put to sleep. It still has all its lights on. It is a Merc steel series gaming keyboard,
The only other weird errors I get in my event viewer are these, and they have to do with windows search.

I am running Windows 8.1 professional. I was just wondering, as I am having some concerns with my pc sometime through the night as it just wakes up for no reason.
I am not sure if someone is accessing this remotely or what but sometime I see a folder that is open or my email that shouldn't be or at least I think I have closed it before I put it to sleep.
I am not sure what to do as I have run my antivirus software with little showing up and my malware, completing a full system scan.
I also have looked at my even viewer pictured here to see if there is something unusual or strange happening.
Is there a way to turn off the monitor when my Windows 8 PC goes into sleep/standby mode? Right now the monitor stays on with a "HDMI input" message bouncing around the screen.

I tried to run powercfg /energy command as it's suggested on some web-site. It reported about 6 errors. First 5 of them are about USB suspend and the latest is about disabled PCI ASPM.Here you can download full report: [URL] .... Maybe I should re-install some drivers?
I've actually had this problem for a while, I really should have taken care of it sooner. It is mostly because I found ways around it, which probably aren't too good for my computer. If I leave music running in the background and put the computer to sleep then the error won't occur. Needless-to-say - and as the title says- The system crashes upon waking up from sleep mode. The screen turns blue and says: "Sorry, your computer encountered an error and needs to restart. We're just collecting some error info, and then we'll restart for you" The results from the diagnostic test have been attached
System recoveries and restores haven't worked, hence the reason why I've sort of given up on the problem until now.

I'm getting no sound after resuming from S1 sleep mode in Windows 8 and the only way to fix this is to either physically unplug the audio cable and plug it back in or restart the computer. I tried the audio troubleshooter and it could not find any problems and there is nothing to fix. I need to reconnect the audio cable every time the computer wakes up from sleep unless I restart the computer. I have an EVGA X58 motherboard with a Realtek ALC889 audio chip. I'm using the latest R2.70 audio driver from EVGA which is the same version as on the Realtek website.

I've been using since 2 days a new video card and I installed the drivers from installation cd. With my previous video card, I'd not suchlike problems.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a new Asus S400CA that came with Windows 8 and I updated to 8.1 out of the box. The computer crashes when it goes into sleep mode probably 1 out of 3 times. I have tried updating all the drivers, including the wireless driver. I have it set to make minidumps but they aren't being created anymore (last one was on 12/5). Usually I get no indication that the computer crashes but it takes a long time to boot back up, although occasionally it will say Windows encountered a problem and has to restart.
I am also getting a ton of Schannel 36888 errors, although I don't know if that's related.
My computer randomly crash when i sleep the computer. normally, it should sleep and the power light should be off in 30 seconds, but when it crash, it takes 5 minutes and finally the computer shutdown instead of sleeping.
And the problem is... i can't have the screenshot of my bluescreen because it always happened when the screen is off....
if i opened memory.dmp with windbg ,it sayd "memory corruption"..... Here is my debug file generated by SF, i opened it with windbg(64 bit) and it says "Probably caused by : ntoskrnl.exe ( nt+5a440 )" it seems a system application ,how could i solve it?
I've been having trouble with Windows 7, Some chipset thing or something, So I decided to upgrade to windows 8, When I take my laptop out of sleep mode it flashes a bsod, so I don't get enough time to see it.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a new Dell Inspiron one 23 touchscreen with windows 8. Sometimes when it goes into sleep mode I can not wake it and have to do a hard reboot.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSymptom: I cannot toggle the sleep mode from either my keyboard shortcut or in the menu of windows 8. Both options, shutdown and restart, work perfectly fine but sleep won't work. Here is what happens when I toggle sleep: My screen shuts down but the fans still are blowing. Whenever I move my mouse or press on any peripherals the screens instantly comes back even tho I've unchecked all options allowing peripherals to wake the computer.
What I've done so far: I've tried many commands on an elevated cmd window. I've check every device in "Device manager" to see if they were allowed to wake the computer and when they were, I removed them this permission. I've updated my bios to the latest version. I've tried to check out some "s1" "s2" "s3" settings in my bios but I've found nothing that would work in my case. I thought that maybe fans weren't shutting down because of heat problems. But my system is water cooled always below 40 degrees Celsius, so definitely heat is not a problem.

I recently updated my Studio 1458 Notebook from 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate to Windows 8 Pro. It is a 2.4GHz Intel Core i5-520M, 8 GB Shared Dual Channel DDR3 at 1066 MHz RAM, 512 MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4530 Video Card, 500 GB SATA @7200 RPM HDD.
Since upgrading, I have had no control over the Sleep function. I have changed all settings I can find on CONTROL PANEL<POWER OPTIONS, and still the system goes to "Sleep Mode" if I do not touch it for a few minutes. It even went to Sleep DURING the Windows 8 installation, which made it take longer than expected.
I can get something like 110 FPS in Dota 2 but after sleep mode it will fluctuate from 10 to 30, 40 if I'm lucky, FPS. This happens on Windows 7 as well, I have to constantly reboot my PC and obviously I'd rather not do that, since it's bad for my hard drive.
This is my GPU usage while this problem occurs: [URL ....
I ususally use my friends computer because mine is broken. I know his password so I can access his computer. Recently he changed it and now I typed the wrong password. Is that power button in the bottom left corner only shutdown or when pressing it it will give me power options?

I am running Windows 8 Pro, with two USB external drives attached. One drive is "dormant", and the other is used for file backups. I have noticed that when the computer exits from sleep mode, either one or both external USB drive folders will open on the desktop. I can only guess this signifies that these drives may have been accessed while the computer was in sleep mode.
View 6 Replies View RelatedAfter I updated to windows 8.1 two things happened:
1-The laptop can't exit sleep mode.....it either restarts or stops working (with the screen off and the power light on) every time I try to exit sleep mode. i haven't been able to solve this problem.
2- When the screen turn off after leaving the laptop idle for a while it won't turn on....this happened after I installed the latest AMD display driver from the AMD website......I managed to solve the problem by downgrading to the AMD driver version provided on the dell website.......sadly this driver causes lagging in games on the contrast of the version provided on the AMD website.

I know, if I enable the option, when I do a normal shutdown I can charge, say my mp3 player from my usb 3.0 port.
what I want to know is if I close the lid like I normally do at the end of my day, can I charge my device and not say..wake the computer from what is essentially a hybrid shutdown type sleep mode?
I'm runnig windows 8 on my Sony labtop. The labtop is located in the kitchen. I connect the TV in the living room in ''dual screen mode'' to the labtop. When i'm listing to music on the labtop (windows media player), the 2 screens won't go to sleep even if I choose 1min to the sleep programing function. I found that there's two ways to choose the delay, in ''power saving'' mode and in control pannel. The thing is that the fix image on the labtop that is duplicate to the TV is actually breaking the TV (the images stay like phantom).
find a way to activate the ''fluid ligns animation'' on the TV afer one minute of inactivity on the labtop while listing to music.
I have turned sleep mode off in power settings and turned off requirement for password yet after no activity within a very short space of time I am required to log back in. How do I disable these functions for good ??

I am facing the issue that after waking my new Lenovo X240 (with 8.1 installed on SSD) from sleep mode it takes up to 50 seconds until the lock screen appears. After setting up Windows to bypass the lock screen altogether waking from sleep mode now only takes a couple of seconds, which is how I would expect it to be.
However, I would actually like to keep the lock screen for security reasons, but haven't figured out what could be the cause for this massive delay?!
