Debugging :: System Crash / BSoD - Dual Boot Running Windows 7 And 8
May 6, 2014I am the same person who posted a thread about needing drivers for Windows 7 after dual booting it with my preinstalled copy of Windows 8. So, I was on Windows 7 today, and my screen randomly blinked on and off for 5 seconds, and then came up with a message saying my system display driver crashed but had recovered. Then, about a minute later, it crashed again and came up with a BSOD saying that the display driver had crashed but failed to recover. I do not have the error code from it, as I only saw this screen once, and forgot to copy down the codde because I got freaked out But anyways, I have copied the system report to this post from the Seven Forums System Tool. I am currently running in safe mode on my Windows 7.

Sep 13, 2013I upgraded my Windows 7 to Windows 8 pro back in November. Windows explorer has always had issues but now I cant open windows explorer (any way) without it crashing and reload. In SAFE MODE it seems to work fine. I have tried disabling all the Services (non MS) and the Startup function but in normal mode but Windows Explorer still crashes.
I'm definitely not the only one experiencing this issue. A quick search online shows other people reporting their Windows 8 explorer frequently crashes. Is there a solution or something I should try to see if it can resolve the issue?

Windows 8 Updates - BSoD Every Time On Running UTorrent
Jul 19, 2013I've been having some problems after installing some updates. For example, after installing these updates, every time I run uTorrent, I get a Blue Screen of Death, almost instantly. The problem is not with the software because I always used the same and nothing ever happened like that. The Blue Screens of Death were more frequent when the software was run. I researched a lot and saw a lot of people reported problems with the update KB2821895 and have not yet emerged any official response or fix patch from Microsoft. I was instructed to run in the command prompt, the following commands:
sfc / scannow
dism / online / clean-up / restoreheath
The problem is that when I run the sfc / scannow, after checking 100%, he is just standing there, frozen in 100% with no response.
And running *** / restorehealth, there was much delay and it got stuck at 20% and after a long time went to 40% where it has remained for hours, so it haven't finished the way it should.
Maintenance :: PC Keeps Running Long Time - Sleep Settings Not Working
Apr 13, 2013Running a family PC, with different user login's. Users is leaving the PC even sometimes after logoff not putting the PC to sleep or switching on the PC, do not log in and leaves the PC running. (training of users, no result).
Task: Ensure the PC goes to sleep within reasonable time.
Sleep settings does not seem to work after user logoff. (3 different login profiles) all set to same standard "balanced" scheme. The standard scheme is changed/set to HDD off 20min, sleep 20 min, hibernate 240min.
A small app is called by screen saver logs the user off after 15 min inactivity with a 1 min warning screen. All working fine with logoff etc.
I had hoped the adjusted standard settings "balanced" was cascaded to the "logoff" state, but it seems to run it's own life after logoff, meaning the PC keeps running (screen goes black as set in the "standard scheme) however the power settings is not putting it to sleep, it takes hours...
The Ethernet card "hard wire" is set to not wake, the wireless adapter is disabled, lock screen is disabled.
Have also tried in the registry to set all default user schemes to = 5 (this was working in XP after logoff) but seems to have no effect in Windows 8. I'm not having Windows 8 pro, so GPO is not an option.
Here comes the questions:
Case, after logoff I want the PC to sleep after 20 min.
Where is the settings for "logoff" state (i.e. no user logged in and after user logoff) in the registry
How to changed the setting in the registry, meaning Dword, name, value for 20 min to sleep
Gaming :: World Of Warcraft Lagging Bad Not Network Related
Nov 24, 2013Lets just say someone was looking at something they shouldnt of been looking at online and now my game lags. The lag isn't network related its because my cpu is peaking out and it didnt before the above mentioned event. The game will lag, I will hit w key and my toon wont move or ill be in pvp and look like im killing someone to be insta dead. I will attempt to turn with A or D and like 3 seconds later my toon will turn.
I have malware bytes but it finds nothing when I scan. and when my game is lagging I pull up task manager to see my cpu running really high and as soon as the task manager comes up it drops back down to a normal operating state and the process that is making it run really high drops off the list before i can see what it actually is. Also on my task manager I see a wow proxy server or something and when i end that task it does run a little faster but still unplayable at times.
Anyways I have :
ran malware bytes
downloaded norton/ran norton scan
still find nothing
My cpu and disk (on tank manager) run up to 90% and 100% and back down to normal levels and bakc up again and stays at like 100% cpu when i play the game , but two days ago it played the game flawlessly so i know its malicious software.
I want to play wow and its not really playable right now, I mean it seems to play but lags so bad and my world and home are at like 50 so its not a network lag.

Nov 15, 2013My system(HP pav-g6) is dual booted with win7 and win 8.1 I have installed all recommended drivers from HP and done all windows updates. I crash trying to wake from sleep. In win 7 this problem does not occur. Check disk, seatools, & memtest have already been completed with all passes.

Jun 6, 2012I've installed win 8 consumer release not long ago, and the windows keep crash from time to time with and says to search for dpc watchdog violation for more info.
Aafter the PC is restarting it says that the problem was with memory.dmp.
At the beginning it happened once in a few weeks so I didn't care but now it happens more often which in not good!

May 11, 2014I usually boot my machine in the morning, use it for a bit and then leave for work. After a time, the machine goes to sleep. About 5 or 6 hours latter, WMC wakes the machine to record a TV show. The recording never happens. When I get home, the machine is one but unresponsive with no display. The power button does not shut the machine down. I have to long hold the power button to kill the machine. In addition, if the machine sleeps for a shorter period and I wake it with the mouse, it crashes and restarts. I had to look at a log to find out that the machine restarted because, again, no display.
What I've done:
Updated the BIOS
sfc /scannow (revealed errors)
... /RestoreHealth (fixed errors)
Drive and memory diagnostics
Checked my problem against this forum which revealed other crash at wake threads but I'm not able to interpret the log file...

In device manager is everything ok. When i go into Troubleshooting only in Audio can't find solution.Not sure if problem is Realtek or High definiton codec.

Brand new Dell laptop - barley setup let alone used.
Graphics drivers & windows 8.1 service packs updated.
Appears to be graphics related and occurs when using apps that would require the higher performance settings only. Crashes appear to be seeming random and often occur when i'm not even in front of the computer can occur immediately starting an app or an hour later.

Nov 19, 2013I have solved this issue by not leaving my laptop plugged into my television through HDMI while it restarts to install updates. If you run into this issue, make sure you try leaving all ports open on your computer.
A few weeks ago my PC ran into a Blue screen of death error. I'm not sure why or exactly when it happened, but I think it may have led to the issues I have now. About 3 weeks ago (I think) I was playing a game and the forced restart to install updates thing popped up. It said I had 15 minutes before my system would restart and install updates. I was a bit cranky at the time, so I got mad and decided to look up on the internet how to disable forced restarts for windows 8. I came across a thread on a site much like this that explained how to open your system registry and delete the forced restart file or something similar.
I opened my registry and couldn't find it, so I ended up not deleting anything, but I did keep my registry open on accident and my computer restarted while it was open. It crashed during the update install and gave me a BSOD error. I restarted my computer and it began installing updates yet again. It got to 30% and then went black. A few seconds later, the Asus logo popped up with the loading circle below it. It said attempting to repair or something similar to that. It eventually failed to repair, so it asked if I would like to proceed with a system restore. Seeing no other options, I clicked yes. The screen went black again and the Asus logo showed up with the loading circle below it. It failed to system restore and took me to a blue screen that isn't the BSOD. It said there were other options like refreshing my system, and it assured me that I would not lose my files (but it said nothing about apps).
I decided to do that over the manufacturer restore. It worked, but I lost all of my apps that I had installed. After redownloading and installing all the apps, I thought it would be over. About a week later another windows update popped up. I thought it would work fine this time, so I let it go. The same thing happened, and I ended up having to system refresh again. This happens every time my computer restarts, and it is very aggravating. I'm not sure what to do about it, although I haven't tried to manufacturer restore yet.
TL/DR; My computer has to system refresh every time it restarts, causing me to lose all of my apps and have to reinstall them each time. I think it has something to do with my computer restarting to install updates while my system registry was open.
I wasn't sure what to provide for specs, so I'll just add in the usual Ram and stuff:
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4500U CPU @ 1.80GHz 2.40 GHz
Installed memory (RAM): 8.00GB (7.89 GB usable)

Aug 9, 2013I can't remember the exact details but my computer Blue Screened with something about kernel memory exception (not entirely sure). This has been going on for weeks and I normally just ignore it.
Unfortunately its getting worse and I have a feeling my hardware is at fault but I'm not entirely sure.

Sep 20, 2013I purchased my cyberpowerpc from newegg.com back in June of 2013 and since I've received it I've had a number of BSOD issues including a hard crash that forced me to reload the OS from the partition, i'm at my whits end with it, I've recently ran a memory test with both Memtest86 and Memtest86+ and both came up with more errors then i can count... I haven't tried taking any memory sticks out because I've seen at least 6-8 variants to each BSOD error message and I'm not sure what can be wrong at this point...

Debugging :: Windows 8 - Right Click On Local Disk Produces Crash
Dec 26, 2012Here is what I wanted to do: right click in File Explorer on a local disk, so I can share it, so I can access that drive from my laptop. Attached a picture, I want to share "Local Disk (E:)", underlined with red, with my mad paint skills. You can see a snippet from my task bar as well, it is important.
Here is the problem: after right clicking, the OS seems to think about 1-2 seconds, then it closes the File Explorer, then kills my task bar, every icon disappears for a few seconds, then everything loads back, tho File Explorer won't open again automatically. Back in Windows7 and XP etc. days this was typically something like an "explorer.exe" crash. Attached another picture, how my taskbar looks exactly, at the moment of restarting. Note: the taskbar flashes before reappearing - still without icons - with dark blue color for a brief moment, then it loads my icons, as I mentioned above. Dark blue is the color of my "Start screen", or however it is officialy called, not sure. The pic:
Also, you can see at the right side, the clock does not show as well.
My setup is like this: I have a 500GB hard drive: C: is the system partition, D: is the data partition. E: is a completely separate 320GB hard drive, another data partition. I have a fully legal Windows 8 Professional, with updates installed(perfectly up to date, I just did an update check, everything is installed) provided by MSDNAA (or Dreamspark nowadays, if I am right) for university students. Every hardware works good, so something went wrong with Windows 8. I am not completly sure, but I think I could right click the drives a while ago, it started just now. Also, I can right click everything else without error, just not the disks. I don't want to roll back to Windows7, since I really like 8, but if this won't get sorted out, I may have to.
Here is what I did: It was obvious that something 3rd party context menu extension (shell extension) caused the problem. I did try to disable extensions 1 by 1, to see if it solves it. Finally, disabling "NVIDIA CPL Context Menu Extension" solved my problem.

I initially thought it was a trojan or virus, but after poking around more I think its either a HD or driver issue. Nov 2, 2013I have a Lenovo u410 Ultrabook with an odd problem that began 3-4 months ago that I've been unable to resolve.
Whenever the laptop resumes from sleep mode it forces a complete restart and fails to create a dump file. I have verified that windows is set to create dump files and if I force a crash in some other way I will get a dump file but when it crashes when trying to resume my minidumps folder remains empty.
As far as I can tell it enters sleep mode fine and it's not until it tries to resume that the reboot is triggered. When the problem began I was on Windows 8 and since then have upgraded to 8.1 ... The laptop was able to sleep normally for the first 2-3 months I had it.
Things I have tried so far:
-Installing all the official drivers from the Lenovo support website.
- Running system file checker.
-Running the Microsoft Safety Scanner.
-Sleeping with no peripheral devices connected, tried both while running on AC and battery.
-Removing and re-seating the memory.
-Refreshing windows (I haven't tried a complete reset yet, hoping to avoid that if I can).
In event viewer I get the following error and critical event each time after it reboots:
Error: The previous system shutdown at <time> on <date> was unexpected.Critical: The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.There are no other warnings, errors, critical entries.
I am attaching the results of the "Grab All" in the SF Diagnostic Tool right after a reboot. Other than sleep mode not functioning the laptop appears to be running normally without any problems.
