I upgraded my Windows 7 to Windows 8 pro back in November. Windows explorer has always had issues but now I cant open windows explorer (any way) without it crashing and reload. In SAFE MODE it seems to work fine. I have tried disabling all the Services (non MS) and the Startup function but in normal mode but Windows Explorer still crashes.
I'm definitely not the only one experiencing this issue. A quick search online shows other people reporting their Windows 8 explorer frequently crashes. Is there a solution or something I should try to see if it can resolve the issue?
There's a certain folder on my external HDD which causes Windows Explorer to crash when I attempt to open it. I've tried running a full virus scan and nothing has been detected, so I'm ruling out anything like that. Could it be down to file corruption?
Also, strangely enough, I copied the folder to my desktop and was able to open it and look through the files, however, as soon as I try to sort the files by certain parameters (date, size, etc.), it causes Windows Explorer to crash again.
I am not able to understand whenever i do a fresh installation of windows 8.1 after some time explorer.exe stars crashing with some time faulting module path c:windowssystem32devrtl.dll or unknown which i check through event viewer.
And also i run sfcscan and do not find any violation or error.
I also upload my dump file to the link: [URL] ....
[COLOR=#333333]I have done hardware diagnostics test in my dell laptop and i also currently using new version of internet download manager. Now i am adding some more dump file.
My error Detail is given below: Code: 1>Log Name: ApplicationSource: Application Error Date: 15-Sep-14 1:45:02 AMEvent ID: 1000 Task Category: (100)Level: ErrorKeywords: Classic User: N/A Computer: Om Description:Faulting application name: Explorer.EXE,
So when I restart my system everything works fine. After s few minutes videos e.g. on Youtube stop working (keep on buffering but won't play). From that moment on I can't change the system volume and trying will result in crashing the Windows Explorer. After the Explorer restarts some things start to work partially again, e.g. I can change the volume again and streams work for a few seconds each.
However, the Explorer keeps on crashing every few minutes and no multimedia stuff seems to work properly, neither Youtube nor music players like Winamp.
I suspect it is somehow related to my Logitech G35, as the problem came up today after plugging the headset in. However, I use the headset nearly daily for months now .
I guess for now I will just go and try to kill some processes...
Using windows 8.1. Every time i right click on a file or a folder explorer just crash an restart. I have googled around and found a lot of people have this problem with autodesk inverter 2013, but I don't have it. Its quite annoying.
When I click on empty space, everything is fine. When I select multiple files or folders, i CAN right click on them.
i currently can not access the available Wi-Fi networks menu. when i attempt to open the available networks pane from either the taskbar, or the settings charm, explorer restarts. i receive no error. I think the problem originated a couple of days ago. on that day, i logged on and the resolution was wrong; Windows had just completed installing an update. since then, i've reinstalled the graphic, network, and audio drivers. i've also uninstalled the latest Windows updates, as well as try and use system restore to go back about a month. no results. the only thing telling is i get an error in safe mode that says "The instruction at 0x389fac1c referenced memory at 0x0000000. The memory could not be written." i recieve this error when i attempt to open the Network connections menu from the taskbar like usual.
But the problem is, the windows explorer is taking up 20% CPU all time even peaks to 25-30%. when i go to taskmanager and press end-task(windows explorer) the laptops stops making the loud fan-noises and also the CPU usage is back to normal
(i hope the language in the screenshots are no problem) common terms are: beschikbaar = avaible, geheugen = memory, snelheid = speed, in gebruik = usage,
SOLVED: 1) Open C:Windows/Temp 2) Delete all the data 3) Open task manager 4) Terminate explorer.exe 5) Start a new explorer.exe 6) Problem solved.
I'm running windows 8.1 x64. When I insert a usb flash drive into my PC, it takes maybe over 2 minutes before windows "finds" it and has it appear in windows explorer. I have the latest BIOS for my motherboard and I don't think there are any specific usb drivers to install.
I am currently running Windows 8.1 (Pro), also I am up-to-date with Windows Updates. Sometimes, when I open File Explorer (a.k.a. Windows Explorer), like "This PC". It says "This folder is empty", it then starts some-kind of searching, also icons on the left are animated like "searching". There is another one, it also takes time to sort files/folders orders, for example when I am in C:New Folder and there are 5 folders and 5 files inside, none big sized at all. When I click on "Name" it then takes time to reorder the view.
Another thing is while I experienced these issues, I found another one that is. View>Layout sometimes gets disabled and I can't change the view. View>Options button behaves the same.
I am running Windows 8 on an Asus laptop. Two days ago it was doing updates and restarting. It did this 3 times, and on the third restart I received the blue error screen. It stated
"Recovery. Your pc needs to be repaired. A required device isn't connected or can't be accessed. Error code: 0xc0000225
You'll need to use the recovery tools on your installation media. If you don't have any installation media [like a disc or usb device] contact your system administrator or Pc manufacturer."
It gives me three options at the bottom [press enter to try again, press f8 for startup settings, press esc for uefi firmware settings]. If I press enter I get the same screen just with a bit more text. f8 does nothing. Uefi takes me to the boot menu. I have been trying to boot from a dvd r with a flash operating system in order to recover my data before it is reformatted. However, it does not seem to recognize the disc. When I select to boot from dvd rom, it tries, then on the black screen appears text saying restart and select boot device or install boot media and press a key. I tried taking disc out and putting bavk in, then pressing a key, nothing, same message.
I already ran my norton antivirus, the spybot search and destroy software looking for malware but there was no thread. also i deleted some programs that i thought could be adding right click capabilities to my right click menu(as even if i right click on a folder,it freezes) but it still the same.
I'm having an issue with a pc I am fixing. I reflowed the gpu and removed some viruses but now every time I restart the pc I get this message which I can fix with the installation media. But every time i fix it, once I turn the computer off again after using it normally for whatever amount of time, when I turn it on again, i get the blue screen again. What's causing it to happen every time?
After making clean install of Windows 8.1 (before I had Windows 8) then my laptop started to hang from time to time.
Selecting tiles in Start screen with keyboard is normal as it used to be , mouse moves normally but HDD light is not on or blinking. Clicking with mouse does do nothing.
When I click fast many times then it finally opens App from Start screen on a program in Desktop mode but everything is slow for 3-4 min. Then it automatically works as it should be, like nothing would be wrong.
I was installing nvidia gfx card update today when my computer crashed. When I went and restarted it and tried signing in I get preparing windows forever and nothing seems to happen.
So I held shift and pressed restart to get to the troubleshoot/bios menu and then click troubleshoot when I click anything in there such as restart in safe mode or open cmd in order to run a scandisk my computer seems to crash and go to a black screen but the blue light indicating power on my computer stays on.
My OS is installed on a ocz ssd and the only thing I can think of is that my harddrive died.
the problem is that i have successfully upgraded to windows 8.1 professional and i dont know why my etro apps open and directly crash and after a while i found a little "X" in the downer right corner of the app while in web source apps or programmes(desktop programmes)works perfectly.
I have a month old Dell XPS 8700 with Windows 8 (later updated to 8.1). The computer has been super. While running Acronis True Image, the computer crashed. Now, the screen shows only Dell logo. No Windows 8. Unlike Windows XP or 7, booting from CDROM is not possible unless wind0ows 8 is running. The computer came with "windows 8 Recovery Media" DVD disk. But it does not boot from DVD ROM. Shift +F8 does not respond. It seems that my computer is dead. I wonder how I can start Windows 8.

I've installed win 8 consumer release not long ago, and the windows keep crash from time to time with and says to search for dpc watchdog violation for more info.
Aafter the PC is restarting it says that the problem was with memory.dmp.
At the beginning it happened once in a few weeks so I didn't care but now it happens more often which in not good! before the crash itself happens the PC freeze and make some weird buzz-like sound, sometime it keeps working after but sometime it crash.
I have recently installed Windows 8 Enterprise RTM x86 on FSC V3505 laptop and so far the OS has been working for a month. However, Recently I tried to access "Control panel -> Indexing options -> Advanced -> File types" which caused the Indexing options windows to close. Similarly, trying to access "Control panel -> Default Programs - > Associate a file type or protocol with a program" causes windows explorer to crash. The Event Viewer reports are shown below. Both options I am trying to access are supposed to show a list of file extensions. I am trying to figure out what is the reason for this behavior and possible to correct the issue without reinstalling windows from scratch. System restore is not a good option since there are only two restore points corresponding to recent time points.
Attempting to access : Control panel -> Indexing options -> Advanced -> File types causes the following error in Event Viewer :
Faulting application name: DllHost.exe, version: 6.2.9200.16384, time stamp: 0x5010888a Faulting module name: combase.dll, version: 6.2.9200.16420, time stamp: 0x505a976e Exception code: 0xc0000005 Fault offset: 0x00027579 Faulting process id: 0xc58
I've had my windows 8 desktop for over 2 years now and I tried to log in to the administrator account.
But when I entered the correct password into it. The Startup screen opens but only shows 2 apps (Windows Store and Photos) and continuously blinks. I would post a screen shot, but it blinks too fast preventing the command. It continuously flashes from the incomplete Startup screen to a black blank screen back to the Startup screen.
I dont have the dump files from the SF diagnostic tool as this problem prevents me from clicking or entering any of the apps.
I know for sure that this is only an isolated problem with the administrator account as when I log into other admin and standard user accounts and the guest account, everything still works perfectly fine.
I scanned for viruses and found nothing with Norton 360 full system scan.
Im not sure when this started to occur as I haven't used the account for over a year.
I just want to know if I would be able to fix this problem or should I just delete this admin account and then create another admin account?
