After I play a game, no matter what game it is when I quit it my start screen looks like this.
As you can see I'm in quite a pickle, I want to start editing my start screen but I can't and it has nothing to do with the Start Screen wallpaper change because it was doing this before I even used the start screen customizer.
I have an ASUS 290X card, and an MSI Z97-Gaming 5 motherboard, and around 8 min into the bf4 game i get a red screen and then i have to press the restart button.
I have a 650 Watt Power Supply, could it be that? I have the Beta Drivers for AMD 14.7 RC3, i used to have 14.4 but same thing occured.
The icons on my start menu and text were about right size but today something happened and they got a lot smaller. Now the text is hard to read with a mag glass. How to make them big again?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a 2nd hand PC back in June and unfortunately have experienced about a dozen BSODs when playing games.
They seem to occur randomly. There has been times where I have been able to play games for hours without BSOD at all.
I thought it was an issue with my graphics card drivers so I updated them to the latest version (I believe AMD 14.2) but the Blue screens continued to happen. I restored the drivers back to default and that is what I am currently using.
Is there anyway I can make it so that I can still switch between apps while playing a fullscreen Desktop game? (ones that aren't from the Windows 8 store)

In device manager is everything ok. When i go into Troubleshooting only in Audio can't find solution.Not sure if problem is Realtek or High definiton codec.

I have a problem. Sometimes when I'm playing a game or any other application, it will minimize without me doing anything. I did a scan with Malwarebytes and it found a virus, I removed it, but this behaviour still continues. I did a sfc /scannow and it found some files that were corrupt but couldn't be repaired. It told me to reboot my computer, and that's what I did but I don't know if the files were repaired or not.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen my Turtlebeach x12 is plugged into my computer (runs Windows 8) and I try to launch some steam games the audio plays through the built-in speakers rather than my headset. I've played around with default devices and disabling/enabling different devices, but nothing has worked. In some games like Planetside 2, the in-game option to set the output device to the headphones works perfectly, but in most other games (e.g. Left for Dead), audio still plays out of my speakers. When I disable the speakers there is no game sound at all. This also wasn't an issue on my old laptop that runs Windows 7. Is there any way to here the game audio from my headset?

A facebook link has been added and now I can't find the option to start a new game. Where it went? I recently installed Windows 8 64 bit from Windows 7 32 bit. I never had any problems really with the windows 7 32 bit but since upgrading to Windows 8 64 bit I am having this odd problem. I am a gamer, I have Steam with lots of games and so I play one then play another and another then I go to start a game (It isn't the same game) and the computer resets and does its thing. I have made sure all my drivers are up to date as I have heard that that can be the problem.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I play videos on youtube, WMP, mplayer or adobe air/flash, video app or whatever, the entire display/screen moves to the left and leaves a black rectangle on the right side of the plasma TV (about one sixth the width of the display). It doesn't happen as soon as I launch the video, but happens when I exit the fullscreen or terminate the app/window and stays that way. The only way to reset it is to log off and log back in or restart the computer.
Mind you, it is not the apps/windows shifting to the left but the entire display, as if some one used the tv settings to move the display area to the left and so left part of the desktop and windows are cut off.
This is getting pretty annoying as keep switching to apps that display text such as VS, Notepad, browser etc in between while playing movies/videos. I can't read what is on the left side of the app window as it is not visible, I need to either resize the window or log out and log back in.
I am using Windows 8 x64 with latest updates and drivers (display and others).
There is a square red icon with a white earphone image in it that takes over the screen anytime I play an mp3. I'm a working musician and don't find this charming as I must be hear and go over a score, or two (one in my lap even). How can I turn off this takeover?

I've tried just about everything, but can't seem to find a setting to stop this action. The screen on my laptop (Sony Flip 15A, intel4400/geforce735) seems to increase and decrease in brightness between screens. It's rather annoying not just because of the change, but also because it takes several seconds to occur and it occurs in discrete steps. I'm running the latest drivers from both intel and nvidia. I've tried turning off adaptive brightness and disabling the sensor service, and all effects (fade in, UAC, etc) have been turned off. A video of the condition is shown below:

It even happen when no programs are opening/closing - for example, if I view a dark background web page and then a lighter background, the brightness shifts. I can't imagine how awful this will be in photoshop.
Can I have icons on the Start screen that do not show up on the Apps screen ?

I'm talking about the big ones I see with the black bar, such as low battery warning.
Twice I've been on the desktop and I never got a low battery warning. To test I made sure I was on the Start screen and sure enough the warning popped up. Also, when I switched over to the desktop the battery icon showed the exclamation point where I don't think it ever did when always on the desktop.
As I understand it, when I it the Windows key or mouse-click lower left while in the desktop, it is supposed to take me to the Start Screen. Indeed, it did work this way for some time. However, now, when I do either, it takes me to the Apps Screen and I have to do something (one of several) to switch to the Start Screen. Once there, if I hit Windows key or click lower left repeatedly, it goes Start Screen -> Apps Screen -> Desktop -> Apps Screen -> Desktop, etc. I think this is wrong. It is certainly not what I want; but my searching has not run across any other mention of this behavior. I don't want it to go to the Apps Screen when I hit Windows key or click in lower left. I only want to go there if I specifically do something to get there from the Start screen. (E.g., little arrow, Ctrl-Tab) How do I get back to the Start Screen being the default choice between these two?
The behavior changed some time after I upgraded to Windows 8.1; but I am not sure if it was immediately after. I suspect not. I've only had the computer for a week, so I am still becoming accustomed to Windows 8. (Coming from XP and 7 and having read a lot of negative comments, I was expecting that I would hate Windows 8. As it turns out, I don't understand the presumed problems. The functionality of Windows 7 is still there. The Start Screen is actually nicer than the Start button

Is there no way to lock your apps so that they can't be rearranged by someone? If not then that seems like a glaring omission. I spend a great deal of time arranging it and then my three year old comes along and messes it all up. I would like to prevent this. I know I can create a user password and just not let any use on it.
View 5 Replies View RelatedAt least Windows 8 makes it easy to create a Start Screen tile for a program, or for a folder. But if you have a FILE that you open often (like a Word file, a Notepad file, or a PDF) and you want a tile to open it, there's no ready-made way to create one.
But you can do it this way. Open your Start Menu folder, which is C:Users(Your Username)AppDataRoamingMicrosoftWindowsStart MenuPrograms (It's a hidden folder, so just paste the above path into the File Explorer address bar.)
Then open the folder containing your file. Right-click the file's icon and select "Copy." Then right-click in the Start Menu folder and select NOT "Paste," but "Paste Shortcut."
This makes the shortcut look like an "App" to Windows 8, so if you then go to the Metro Search Screen and search for "Apps" it will come up there, and you can right-click it and "Pin to Start."
When I am away from the computer for maybe an hour or more and come back, the Start Screen will not operate, I have to keep rebooting my machine. It is getting frustrating. I have changed the settings to NOT allow hibernation of the computer to include the hard disk drive when not in use; however, the Start Screen after non-use does not want to work, freezes. What can I do?

When I click on a doc to open it, it goes into desktop mode to view the Word doc. After viewing the file, how do I get back to the list of search results?
