Windows 7 Not Booting Up After Update
May 11, 2012My Windows updated today (5/11/2012) then the download was stuck at 99%. I tried to shut down and it continued trying to download the update then shut down after failing to download. When I turned it on again, I got stuck on the "Starting Windows" screen. I restarted the PC and ran the Start up repair, I then proceeded to going to a restore point. Windows then ran normal so I tried to troubleshoot windows updater and ran a disk cleanup to delete the temporary files that were possibly corrupted. The update ran normal and was successful. Windows asked for a restart because it was an important update.
Shutting it down made it configure the updates and I was stuck at 30% then I was back to where I started but this time the start up repair was not able to run. I was stuck with a blank screen after the "Windows is loading files" screen. I also tried booting with the Windows 7 disk, I ended up stuck again in the "Starting Windows" screen.

Mar 26, 2011I'm having a bit of an issue with Windows 7 and XP after dual booting them. I had XP installe,d and then installed 7 on another partition. Everything went fine, except that I can't boot XP: there's no option.
I tried a few things in command prompt such as bcedit /set and most of those commands. It added the option to the menu, but it said that /ntldr was not bootable as it was missing or corrupt.
I also read somewhere that you should try to copy some files like boot.ini to your 7 partition from your XP partition, but that didn't work since I have no access to my XP partition and trying to assign a dirve letter doesn't work: the option is grayed out.
Windows 7 Fails To Complete Booting After Software Update?
Jun 30, 2012While recently using Nero 10's suite of programs I encountered a screen indicating several programs had newer versions and that I should update before continuing. I then updated the programs. The update process required a system reboot to complete the update, since part of the update process could not be completed while the system was running. After clicking on the "Reboot Now Button" the system went through a normal shutdown and start up process. However, after displaying the Windows 7 screen the system hung and I never saw the Windows 7 Logon screen.At this point I powered down and restarted the computer.
The computer displayed the "Windows did not shutdown properly last time" screen during the loading process. I then selected to finish booting in SAFE Mode. The computer then booted successfully and I was able to exercise the system. I then attempted to restart the computer from SAFE MODE but again encountered the "hanging" condition. I again attempted to reboot and once again received the "Windows did not shutdown properly last time" screen. Since booting into SAFE MODE hadn't solved the problem, I attempted to boot into SAFE MODE with networking.This caused the system to again "hang". In summary, I am able to boot into all but the SAFE MODE with networking capability, which reproduces the problem.Since SAFE MODE failed to resolve the issue, I attempted to boot from a Windows 7 Installation DVD. After successfully loading from I selected the "Repair your Computer" option, which then located the Windows 7 system and attempted to repair the error.
After completing the system repair, I again attempted to restart the system, thinking the repair had been successful. However, the computer again "hung" without displaying the Windows Logon screen.I then used an external USB drive containing Fedora 15 to successfully boot the computer. This has allowed me to "poke" around on the hard drive containing the Windows 7 system. I've examined the failing drives partition tables to see if during the updating process the drive had become corrupted. Upon examination of the drive's partition table, I could not find any apparent errors. The following screen shot shows the partition contents of the Windows 7 drive:[CODE]

Sep 16, 2012I was going to going to reinstall windows 7 professional x64 version of windows in my laptop but during installation I got structed at the point where the earlier partitions are to be deleted and new ones are to be made(I got the option from custom install) to give the path for new C:// drive and others. Here is the basic of problem, the installation was taking very long time to delete my earlier partitions(nearly 30 mins.). So I derectly pressed the power button and shut down (while the deletion of earlier C:// drive was going on) my laptop eject the DVD on next boot, but now nothing was appearing after booting. So I again tried to do the same installation but this time the installation was stucked at the windows icon ('Starting Windows' Icon).

May 17, 2012My operating system is giving out, i am locking up regularly now, i feel i have too many things installed on a vary small drive to pinpoint the problem. i have been neeeding a second hard drive for a while now, i think its time.The question is, how can i boot off of one hard drive, but install all my applications on the other, as if i where booting my OS off of a 30gb ssd, just big enough for the operating system, but actually installing things on my second hard drive.

Dec 18, 2011I was trying to install a ubuntu distribution to my primary hard drive (along side Windows 7) and at 99% of copying files the setup reported there was not sufficient memory to install backtrack. I cannot boot back into windows 7 as the computer resets before getting past the boot screen (shows 'starting windows' as normal then the screen blacks and takes me back to BIOS). this process loops unless I select windows repair option, which does not fix the problem. The Backtrack live CD won't let me delete the new, half-installed partition, so therefore I cannot change the windows partition back to it's usual (small) size of 55GB.

None had a satisfactory answer (besides the usual reinstall).Windows now fails to boot, after Win update automatically installed the update and insisting I restart. The update was Definition Update for Microsoft Security Essentials - KB2310138 (Definition 1.97.1113.0). Startup repair finds no problems. The BIOS recognizes the system drive and reports no errors.
I had done (before the update installed itself): repaired the "windows can't find the DVD drive" problem using the Microsoft "Fixit" for that problem it was successful). Also the external storage drive on a USB 3.0 controlled was dropped by the system at some point (hence my anxiety; all my backups, including a rather stale system drive image, are on that drive). I can access the Win 7 system drive with another OS on the machine (XP SP3).

Error Applying Update Operation After Installing Windows 7 Service Pack 1
Feb 23, 2011I installed Service Pack 1 for Windows 7. After it rebooted, on the Windows 7 loading screen it shows "Applying update operation XXXX of XXXX". After a certain number it says "Error applying operation XXXX of XXXX", and then the system proceeds to hang on that screen, meaning that I am unable to access Windows. I try mashing F8 for my life when resetting the computer, but I never get a list of boot options, so I cannot get into Safe Mode or even try the computer's Last Known Good Configuration. The edition of this version of Windows 7 is 64 bit Ultimate. The laptop I am using is also 64 bit Ultimate.
Another thing I want to point out is that both of these computers have been taking an incredibly long time (near 12 hours at this point) trying to download and install Service Pack 1. There is no spyware or anything running in the background. I am fearing that I might get the same error on this machine but I have taken the liberty of creating a System Restore point in the event it happens. I have two other Windows 7 machines in the house (32 bit Professional and 64 bit Home Premium), and both of them installed Service Pack 1 without any kind of problem, and both of those computers installed them rather quickly.
Startup Isn't Booting Properly After BIOS Update
Nov 14, 2011i went to update my BIOS after one of my games(call of duty: Black ops) was lagging badly and i did everything to reduce lag even though my computer could run it on high settings. BTW the lag was gone after i upgraded BIOS for the game i mentioned above.So a friend suggested that i update the BIOS. i did and then after restart my computer would freeze but when i unplug a usb device from 2 ports grouped together it booted. Today i got the boot until i remove a USB device but now i get crashes in games. it also decided to install printer drivers...again even though the printer has been working fine since the day i installed windows 7 x64 months ago. My version is not a beta or a RC its a full version fully updated with some minor tweaks like UAC turned off but nothing major that would cause startup to fail.i know i dont have a virus or a rootkit. Thats the first thing i checked. This didnt happen till after i updated the BIOS. so here is what i have done so far:Startup repair twice(i chose the recommended option).....neither time it worked it just reverted it back two days.did a antivirus,rootkit, spyware,etc... scan found only small stuff that wouldnt cause this much problems. in other words small stuff that i got rid of easily that is fairly common such as data miners and tracking cookies.also ran combofix....didnt find anything.next did a scan using Advanced windos Care 2 didnt find anything wrong with the disk or anything else.also ran chkdsk also didnt find anything.i ran out of options of stuff to do. i dont mind re-installed windows 7 but kind of want to use that as a last resort.

Installing / Uninstalling After BIOS Update
Nov 1, 2011I currently have an ASUS K53E that I've put a 60GB SSD into. I recently had to send out the laptop for service with ASUS, but I swapped the SSD for the original drive at that time (to save the chance they may re-format the drive).In any case, their repair apparently included a BIOS update... When I got the computer back, I naturally swapped the SSD back into the computer. Since then I've had numerous issues, the most prominent being that WLE stopped working (Every time I load Messenger it inexplicably stops working), and when I attempt to un-install it it will have a problem and abort the removal.With skype, I installed it fine, but it will launch, have a problem, then close! This is extremely frustrating..So really, my first thought is that there is a BIOS-update related issue, because the BIOS was flashed with the other drive in the laptop, and the installation on the SSD was installed/configured before the BIOS flash.Am I looking at a clean install of windows? Or could I get away with just a repair? I'd really prefer not to reinstall if I don't have to (Getting the OEM install on the SSD was hard enough in the first place).
