View 1 Replies View RelatedUsers running Internet Explorer 9 or IE8 on top of Windows 7 Service Pack 1 will receive a Critical security bulletin next week. The security update is part of Microsoft's normal, monthly patch release process, and will be accompanied by a range of additional security bulletins.
The software giant plans to plug security holes in a number of its technologies, including the latest releases of its IE browser and Windows OS," revealed Angela Gunn Senior Response Communications Manager, Trustworthy Computing Microsoft."Today we're releasing our advance notification for the August security bulletin release, which is scheduled for Tuesday, August 9. This month's release includes 13 bulletins addressing 22 vulnerabilities in Microsoft Windows, Office, Internet Explorer, .NET and Visual Studio. All 13 bulletins will be released on Tuesday, August 9 at approximately 10 a.m. PDT," Gunn stated.
Only a couple of the 13 August 2011 security bulletins sport a severity rating of Critical, the Redmond company revealed, one impacting Internet Explorer, and the other Windows. The Critical IE patches will be delivered to all supported versions of the browser, including IE8 and IE9 running on Windows 7 SP1, as I have already said. The remaining Critical security bulletin will only impact customers running Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2, the Redmond company noted.

I have got an Windows 7 x64 PL with SP1 ISO.
What should I do to "add" the patches (those KBXXXXXXX files) from Windows Update to ISO. Is there a way to "put" .NET Framework 4.0?
I guess that "add" is very relative term as I suppose, that the new .iso file can be created at the end of the process leaving the old .iso as it was.
What I mean I've seen terms like Windows Automated Installation Kit, imagex, sysprep, OOBE, but I can hardly figure how they works.
Now there is a huge problem. I had really difficulties with understanding stuff during reading numerous articles which were telling how to make similar things (or just my guessing told so). Here are some wild guesses:
1. Editing the original .iso file with some software, thus creating the new iso.
2. Making fresh installation of Windows 7 (whether by Virtual Machine or on real hardware). Enabling audit mode, but then I don't quite get it about Out of Box Experience (OOBE), set up the things I want to and by imagex(???) create the .iso of it?
3. Creating Win PE which will be (????) a background for "typical" Windows Installation?
Does this problem have something common with unattended installation?
I have my current system live and working well. I want to add an SSD as the main boot drive. Is there a way I can migrate or reinstall easily on the new drive without having to run updates on everything again? The only hardware changing (adding) would be the SSD.I plan to format the old drive to use as storage.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI just purchased my new computer from dell a couple of weeks ago. I've downloaded a program from the company ToonTrack and I cannot get the patches to install. When I run patch it starts to install then i get the 1636 error message. I am running as admin. and I've googled and tried everything I can think of. I've had trouble installing a few other programs also.

View 17 Replies View RelatedWindows Update seems to be stuck in and endless cycle of applying the same 5 important updates over and over again. Probably been happening for about 3 months now, and despite going through the install process and following all the instructions to the letter, every time I start up, the same updates are available for download again. Here is a screenshot of Windows Update showing the updates in question

2. After it searches the computer to see what patches are installed and missing, it will automatically install the missing patch
FYI: On last shut down of system on 9-24-2012(win7 ultimate) windows update installed KB2538243. When starting system back up several hours later, window's would not start. Started in safe mode, used system restore, all ok for now! Checked recent updates and found that the above update "failed to install" and was the only update listed.

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy machine has been stuck on installing this update all night. I think my hard drive may be full, what should I do? Been meaning to format that thing and reinstall windows to it since its just a 40 gig SSD.
View 3 Replies View RelatedEvery time I shut down, Windows Update installs the same 2 updates. It never gives an error message saying that the install failed. It just insists on doing it again. This is the update from last week, I guess. I'm afraid I'm at work and away from the affected computer. It's not critical, it's just annoying, bc shutdown now takes too long.
View 8 Replies View RelatedMicrosoft’s latest round of security patches appears to be causing some PCs to seize up and display a black screen, rendering the computer useless. The problem affects Microsoft products including Windows 7, Vista, and XP operating systems, said the CEO and CTO for the U.K. security company Prevx. Prevx was alerted to the problem by users of its security software last week, the CEO said.
Microsoft apparently made changes to the Access Control List (ACL), a list of permissions for a logged-on user. The ACL interacts with registry keys, creating visible desktop features such as a sidebar. However, the latest patches appear to make some changes to those registry keys. The effect is that some installed applications are not aware of the changes and do not run properly, causing a black screen. Security applications seem to be particularly affected. The CEO said users of other security products have also complained about the issue, even going so far as trying to reinstall the operating system to fix it.
Prevx has released software that fixes the registry to match the ACL settings, which should resolve the problem, the CEO said. Users could do this on their own by modifying their registry settings, but making alterations to those settings is risky since it can severely affect how the operating system runs. The CEO said Microsoft was likely just trying to fortify the security of the operating systems when it inadvertently made the error in its patches.

This has to do with a windows update that wouldn't install and keeps giving me an error code(800FO203). The update is for Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller. No matter what I do it wouldn't install. (Disabled firewall, antivirus, contacted Realtek).

View 9 Replies View RelatedI upgraded my computer from Vista to Windows 7 (tech do it at Best Buy). Didn't have problems until a round mid June. Uninstalled some programs, did scans with Malwarebyts (found a bunch of malicious software), cleaned with ccleaner. Cleaned c drive. Scanned for viruses with micorsoft security essentials (nothing found). When I try to install my new webcam computer shows blue screen with ... windows has shut down to avoid damage and today I it was doing scan for viruses and froze again. Sometimes computer shuts down while simply clicking on a link in a website. A few weeks ago I used ccleaner to clearn up the registry and I fear something may have happened then as I've recently read that one should not mess with the registry. There are some other things I've tried but can't recall at the moment.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have seen this problem on other forums. None had a satisfactory answer (besides the usual reinstall).Windows now fails to boot, after Win update automatically installed the update and insisting I restart. The update was Definition Update for Microsoft Security Essentials - KB2310138 (Definition 1.97.1113.0). Startup repair finds no problems. The BIOS recognizes the system drive and reports no errors.
I had done (before the update installed itself): repaired the "windows can't find the DVD drive" problem using the Microsoft "Fixit" for that problem it was successful). Also the external storage drive on a USB 3.0 controlled was dropped by the system at some point (hence my anxiety; all my backups, including a rather stale system drive image, are on that drive). I can access the Win 7 system drive with another OS on the machine (XP SP3).

I installed Service Pack 1 for Windows 7. After it rebooted, on the Windows 7 loading screen it shows "Applying update operation XXXX of XXXX". After a certain number it says "Error applying operation XXXX of XXXX", and then the system proceeds to hang on that screen, meaning that I am unable to access Windows. I try mashing F8 for my life when resetting the computer, but I never get a list of boot options, so I cannot get into Safe Mode or even try the computer's Last Known Good Configuration. The edition of this version of Windows 7 is 64 bit Ultimate. The laptop I am using is also 64 bit Ultimate.
Another thing I want to point out is that both of these computers have been taking an incredibly long time (near 12 hours at this point) trying to download and install Service Pack 1. There is no spyware or anything running in the background. I am fearing that I might get the same error on this machine but I have taken the liberty of creating a System Restore point in the event it happens. I have two other Windows 7 machines in the house (32 bit Professional and 64 bit Home Premium), and both of them installed Service Pack 1 without any kind of problem, and both of those computers installed them rather quickly.
i did notice that at every boot , Windows 7 spins up my hard disk during the boot
can i avoid this? and my boot is slower
My spouse's laptop has Windows 7 Professional and it contains a Citrix client VPN access to her work. For some reason, I do not have the details, Windows Updates clobbers the Citrix client, thereby she cannot access her work. Note that Windows performs these updates without asking the user if they want these updates to be performed. We have to uninstall the Windows Updates and reinstall the Citrix client to get her VPN working again. How can I setup her laptop to block (or at least ask the user) Windows from performing updates so that it does not affect her Citrix VPN access?

I currently have an ASUS K53E that I've put a 60GB SSD into. I recently had to send out the laptop for service with ASUS, but I swapped the SSD for the original drive at that time (to save the chance they may re-format the drive). In any case, their repair apparently included a BIOS update... When I got the computer back, I naturally swapped the SSD back into the computer. Since then I've had numerous issues, the most prominent being that WLE stopped working (Every time I load Messenger it inexplicably stops working), and when I attempt to un-install it it will have a problem and abort the removal. With skype, I installed it fine, but it will launch, have a problem, then close! This is extremely frustrating..So really, my first thought is that there is a BIOS-update related issue, because the BIOS was flashed with the other drive in the laptop, and the installation on the SSD was installed/configured before the BIOS flash.Am I looking at a clean install of windows? Or could I get away with just a repair? I'd really prefer not to reinstall if I don't have to (Getting the OEM install on the SSD was hard enough in the first place).
