I have my current system live and working well. I want to add an SSD as the main boot drive.Is there a way I can migrate or reinstall easily on the new drive without having to run updates on everything again? The only hardware changing (adding) would be the SSD.I plan to format the old drive to use as storage.

I've downloaded many drivers from 181 to 190 and all I get is "Your system has not been modified. To install this program at a later time, run the installation again." WHAT THE CRAP?
I've tried to uninstall the current driver, log into safe mode and use driver sweeper to erase every single trace of the old driver, logged back in and tried to install new driver but ALWAYS get the same god damn problem! Why the hell is this happening to me?
I've got Win 7 x64, I've of course downloaded the right drivers!
I just purchased my new computer from dell a couple of weeks ago. I've downloaded a program from the company ToonTrack and I cannot get the patches to install. When I run patch it starts to install then i get the 1636 error message. I am running as admin. and I've googled and tried everything I can think of. I've had trouble installing a few other programs also.

I am looking for the following either through a VBScript or Batch File:
1. Look/search the computer to see what patches are installed
2. After it searches the computer to see what patches are installed and missing, it will automatically install the missing patch
For one reason or another I am frequently installing a fresh copy of Windows 7 onto my hard drive. I use a lot of software so as things get installed and uninstalled bad things tend to happen and sometimes things are beyond repair.My question is can I use my product key to download from someplace an image of Windows 7 with all the updates already installed? Installing the updates becomes very time consuming and the machine has to be restarted many times over so I am trying to avoid this. I suppose I could disable the updates but that is not really my intent at this time.
View 6 Replies View RelatedMy current Hdd which contains my OS and program data totals nearly 249GB, obviously SSD's which are this big are very, very expensive, how can I transfer my current OS install to a new SSD in an easy as possible way but keep the OS and the programs that are installed.Some of the stuff on there, like games, I guess I could uninstall and then reinstall them later so that they are no longer on the boot drive.

So they did that and never bothered to ask if I wanted 32bit, or 64bit.My motherboard and so on are 64bit compatible, and the sole reason why I want this is because many of my video-games claim that I don't have enough memory with the 3.25gb of RAM usage to use certain video settings. In reality I have 16gb of RAM ready to be used, unfortunately the 32bit Windows 7 can't use it. Kind of lame that in 2012 all versions can't simply do it, but I'm sure more technological reasons negate it.Now my questions are that my current 32bit Windows 7 serial key can be used with a different install CD that is 64bit? My sister has Windows 7 64bit CD and I'm wondering is that even legal to do to begin with, as well as possible? Oh and I'm aware they must be the same version such as Home Premium, which they are.

I have got an Windows 7 x64 PL with SP1 ISO.
What should I do to "add" the patches (those KBXXXXXXX files) from Windows Update to ISO. Is there a way to "put" .NET Framework 4.0?
I guess that "add" is very relative term as I suppose, that the new .iso file can be created at the end of the process leaving the old .iso as it was.
What I mean I've seen terms like Windows Automated Installation Kit, imagex, sysprep, OOBE, but I can hardly figure how they works.
Now there is a huge problem. I had really difficulties with understanding stuff during reading numerous articles which were telling how to make similar things (or just my guessing told so). Here are some wild guesses:
1. Editing the original .iso file with some software, thus creating the new iso.
2. Making fresh installation of Windows 7 (whether by Virtual Machine or on real hardware). Enabling audit mode, but then I don't quite get it about Out of Box Experience (OOBE), set up the things I want to and by imagex(???) create the .iso of it?
3. Creating Win PE which will be (????) a background for "typical" Windows Installation?
Does this problem have something common with unattended installation?
Is there a link showing all the win7 update patches and which ones in the list are to be avoided?
View 2 Replies View RelatedMicrosoft’s latest round of security patches appears to be causing some PCs to seize up and display a black screen, rendering the computer useless. The problem affects Microsoft products including Windows 7, Vista, and XP operating systems, said the CEO and CTO for the U.K. security company Prevx. Prevx was alerted to the problem by users of its security software last week, the CEO said.
Microsoft apparently made changes to the Access Control List (ACL), a list of permissions for a logged-on user. The ACL interacts with registry keys, creating visible desktop features such as a sidebar. However, the latest patches appear to make some changes to those registry keys. The effect is that some installed applications are not aware of the changes and do not run properly, causing a black screen. Security applications seem to be particularly affected. The CEO said users of other security products have also complained about the issue, even going so far as trying to reinstall the operating system to fix it.
Prevx has released software that fixes the registry to match the ACL settings, which should resolve the problem, the CEO said. Users could do this on their own by modifying their registry settings, but making alterations to those settings is risky since it can severely affect how the operating system runs. The CEO said Microsoft was likely just trying to fortify the security of the operating systems when it inadvertently made the error in its patches.

My game patches cant update my games because of some file association errors I'm getting. I'm receiving the following errors

I've cleaned the registry and check and repaired with CCleaner/ uninstalled games then reinstalled them.
Games are Rift & Runes of Magic (both have run well on this machine previously).

I have a laptop that I bought from a highstreet shop that came with win 7 already installed. It didn't come with the disks or anything though. Now, I am probably going to buy another laptop and was wondering if there was anyway to move the OS over? I will be moving the HDDs across from one laptop to another, will I just be able to boot from the primary HDD that has the OS on it?

I had updates waiting to be installed before that and I'm also worried whether the ones previously installed were picked up automatically. Now I'm not sure how to proceed.
I just did some reading and found out how important the updates are security-wise. Previously I had thought they they were more or less optional.
I've tried all the methods I can find, and I'm not so strong with boot files or images in general.
I have an image of my current system, created last night ( created in windows 7 from the "Ctrl Panel> Recovery>Create a system image" option) stored on my external 1.5Tb drive. It is stored in the "WindowsImageBackup" folder that was created and contains two .vhd files. one is obviously the image at 39Gb)
With my system running (Win7 Home Premium) I want to install this image onto a new, larger HDD and then replace my current drive ( 80Gb ) with the new, larger drive (320Gb ).
I simply want to copy the image from my external 1.5Tb drive to a "New" 320Gb drive (connected to my system via a USB2.0 to IDE and SATA cables that I use for backing up people's files and things from crashed machines) The "new" drive shows up in "Disk Manager" as "E", healthy partition, formatted, etc.
Is there a way to install my backed up image to my 320Gb external drive, THEN open my desktop pc, and replace my current 80 Gb drive with the 320Gb drive (already imaged and bootable as if nothing changed except the size of the drive) ?
Also, do I need to delete the partitions on the "new" 320Gb drive so that it shows up as unallocated space?
I have a Gigabyte GA-P35-Ds3 motherboard that has just died. Do I need to replace it with the identical model or is there some leeway in replacing the mobo that won't affect the current Windows 7 licence.

My SSD ended up being to small as certain programs do not let me remap content to a separate drive. I have upgraded (swapped out) to a 240GB SSD reinstalled windows on it and windows does not see my raid1 in disk management, nor does it see my two monitors or my connection to my router. It was my understanding I could just swap out the SSD's and reinstall windows and it would see everything.

Now, I haven't have any changes to any hardware on my laptop ever.I ran chkdsk and it didn't find any errors, and it ran both a quick scan, and full scan. And I also ran some type of scan within Window 7 (right-click drive C, then "Properties", then "Tools", then something like "Scan drive for errors/bad sectors") and it also said everything was fine.Last night I sat down, backed up all the necessary data from my hard drive, and was looking forward to having a clean installed OS, and I can't even get it to install.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI bought this computer three months ago, and had no problems, up until now. It all started with it freezing up all of a sudden, forcing me to restart. But the display didn't show up. Tried again. Didn't work. Eventually, I removed my GPU and placed it back again, thinking it was loose. Then it finally worked.
Then it happened again. So after taking out my graphics card twice, it finally started working, but my HDD started making strange sounds. A sound I've never heard before, and only occurred during start up. I shrugged it off.
Now I start getting these sort of instances, when what ever program I have open, stops responding and Windows get's pretty laggy. The Windows Explorer (Not IE, the tool bar thing) also is unresponsive. I know it can't be a virus, Trend Micro showed no signs of anything after I scanned my computer a bunch of times.
So I did what any sane person would do, I did a bit of research on the net, and found this thread on this forums. The person here had a similar problem that I did. After reading most of the comments, I downloaded HDD SMART, as instructed, and apparently "Current Pending Sector Count" is yellow.
My windows is minimizing the programs that im using. Well not exactly minimizing but sort of putting it back to desktop. I tried to install the windows again but whit no results. it's doing it again. I cant even write my documents in word properly because of this.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm working on a re-install of all components following a complete corruption of the boot sector on my drive which could not be fixed with repairs. The last time I installed everything fresh, I had no issues. Between then and now, there have been no hardware changes on my system, but now I am having issues installing the IDT Codecs. I keep getting an error along the following lines: Quote: ExitError: Error=Device Object not present, restart the system and run setup again. Running under compatibility mode, and running drivers from both the motherboard CD and the manufacturer website both have the same effect. The CD, when booted, says "This OS not support!" and only contains 32-bit vista codecs. ECS' website download indicates the IDT drivers as being compatible with Windows 7. Both do not work. It is almost as if the hardware "disappeared," despite the fact that I was using the drivers quite successfully till just 2 days ago, when the boot sector went kaput.
Windows has installed its own default set, which do nothing to power the 8mm jacks which I use with my speakers, but instead put sound through the HDMI, which is useless because I use a dedicated graphics card. I have tried uninstalling this codec and re-installing IDT, to no effect.
