Windows 7 Not Booting Up After Update
May 11, 2012
My Windows updated today (5/11/2012) then the download was stuck at 99%. I tried to shut down and it continued trying to download the update then shut down after failing to download. When I turned it on again, I got stuck on the "Starting Windows" screen. I restarted the PC and ran the Start up repair, I then proceeded to going to a restore point. Windows then ran normal so I tried to troubleshoot windows updater and ran a disk cleanup to delete the temporary files that were possibly corrupted. The update ran normal and was successful. Windows asked for a restart because it was an important update.
Shutting it down made it configure the updates and I was stuck at 30% then I was back to where I started but this time the start up repair was not able to run. I was stuck with a blank screen after the "Windows is loading files" screen. I also tried booting with the Windows 7 disk, I ended up stuck again in the "Starting Windows" screen.

While recently using Nero 10's suite of programs I encountered a screen indicating several programs had newer versions and that I should update before continuing. I then updated the programs. The update process required a system reboot to complete the update, since part of the update process could not be completed while the system was running. After clicking on the "Reboot Now Button" the system went through a normal shutdown and start up process. However, after displaying the Windows 7 screen the system hung and I never saw the Windows 7 Logon screen. At this point I powered down and restarted the computer.
The computer displayed the "Windows did not shutdown properly last time" screen during the loading process. I then selected to finish booting in SAFE Mode. The computer then booted successfully and I was able to exercise the system. I then attempted to restart the computer from SAFE MODE but again encountered the "hanging" condition. I again attempted to reboot and once again received the "Windows did not shutdown properly last time" screen. Since booting into SAFE MODE hadn't solved the problem, I attempted to boot into SAFE MODE with networking. This caused the system to again "hang". In summary, I am able to boot into all but the SAFE MODE with networking capability, which reproduces the problem.Since SAFE MODE failed to resolve the issue, I attempted to boot from a Windows 7 Installation DVD. After successfully loading from I selected the "Repair your Computer" option, which then located the Windows 7 system and attempted to repair the error.
After completing the system repair, I again attempted to restart the system, thinking the repair had been successful. However, the computer again "hung" without displaying the Windows Logon screen.I then used an external USB drive containing Fedora 15 to successfully boot the computer. This has allowed me to "poke" around on the hard drive containing the Windows 7 system. I've examined the failing drives partition tables to see if during the updating process the drive had become corrupted. Upon examination of the drive's partition table, I could not find any apparent errors. The following screen shot shows the partition contents of the Windows 7 drive:[CODE]

i went to update my BIOS after one of my games(call of duty: Black ops) was lagging badly and i did everything to reduce lag even though my computer could run it on high settings. BTW the lag was gone after i upgraded BIOS for the game i mentioned above. So a friend suggested that i update the BIOS. i did and then after restart my computer would freeze but when i unplug a usb device from 2 ports grouped together it booted. Today i got the boot until i remove a USB device but now i get crashes in games. it also decided to install printer drivers...again even though the printer has been working fine since the day i installed windows 7 x64 months ago. My version is not a beta or a RC its a full version fully updated with some minor tweaks like UAC turned off but nothing major that would cause startup to fail.i know i dont have a virus or a rootkit. Thats the first thing i checked. This didnt happen till after i updated the BIOS. so here is what i have done so far:Startup repair twice(i chose the recommended option).....neither time it worked it just reverted it back two days.did a antivirus, rootkit, spyware,etc... scan found only small stuff that wouldnt cause this much problems. in other words small stuff that i got rid of easily that is fairly common such as data miners and tracking cookies.also ran combofix....didnt find anything.next did a scan using Advanced windos Care 2 didnt find anything wrong with the disk or anything else.also ran chkdsk also didnt find anything.i ran out of options of stuff to do. i dont mind re-installed windows 7 but kind of want to use that as a last resort.

I'm out of ideas. I've been running Win 7 on this machine for more than a year without issues in updating etc. Now it will not search or update/install critical items. I'm running Symantec (even tried turning the firewall off without any success). I get an error code 80072F7C. When I run hijackthis, I get an error message that my system denied write access to the Hosts file. I proceed with the scan but am unable to produce a log file. I've included a screenshot from the windows update error as well as the error I get when trying to run hijack this.

The update is called:
nvidia - Graphics adapter WDDM1.1, Graphics Adapter WDDM1.2, Other hardware - NVIDIA GeForce GT 425M.
After installing it, whenever my laptop tries to use the Nvidia card, I get a blue screen and the system restarts. I looked in installed updates to uninstall it, and it is not there. I did a system restore to four days before I installed it, and I still get the same effect. Lastly, I installed some older nvidia drivers that used to work using the clean install option, and I still have this problem.

A while back, after successfully downloading and installing some updates in the Windows Update, it prompted me to restart the computer to finish the update installation process. However, I continued to use the computer for quite some time before restarting it, and then when it tried to configure the updates on the start-up screen, it showed that it was not successful in doing so. In the past, I noticed that this would typically happen when I did not restart the computer immediately (or within a short time) after the updates finished and I got the prompt to restart. I would have to go to Windows Update and do it over again, and then upon immediate restart, it would always work properly. But this time, it did not, and I keep getting the 8000FFFF error message instead.
Also, now, every time I start the computer, it shows that it's "Preparing to configure Windows... Do not shut off computer" (presumably the updates that never got completely and correctly configured) in the start-up screen... gets to 35%..fails... shuts down (screen goes black)... restarts again... tries to configure again, fails again, shuts down and restarts again... tries to configure again, fails again, and finally it apparently gives up and says "reverting changes" and finally goes to the desktop.I've looked at the answers in several threads at the answers.microsoft.com forum that were started by people with similar problems, and also tried several of the Microsoft "FixIt" files on the Microsoft site, but none of them worked. I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium.

My windows update does not like to load! It takes a very long time and sometimes causes explorer to crash! When I checked, I had 92 updates to install. When I click download and install, it would freeze and stay there for a long time. I tried to use the Fix it application, however that gets stuck on "Checking Online for Updates" as well! What should I do? I also tried to update in safe mode, but it wouldn't let me.

OK, first I have to say I am a complete piker with this stuff. If I have to do anything that requires changing the BIOS or registry or anything like that, I am gonna have to pay someone to fix this.OK, here is my problem. Windows update fails with a code 8007370B. I have Windows 7 Pro, a Dell XPS 9100 with 16GB RAM, which I added, as well as a Asus ENGTX460 Top video card. The system has worked great with this configuration for well over a year. I use MSE as security, and Zone Alarm for the firewall.I have been getting this code since October. I tried doing the windows troubleshoot and fix links, I tried Fixit, I tried System Restore, nothing worksThe system also says under last time updated "Never" and it displays no record

I just recently upgrade my system's OS from Win XP to Win 7 but I'm facing some problems with my Win 7. Whenever I boot up my system without my GPU installed, it boots up just fine. But as soon as I install my GPU i.e., GT 240, Windows 7 doesn't respond after "Starting Windows" screen or simply fails to boot. I also faced the similar problem while installing my Windows 7. I resolved that one by removing my GPU while installation.

I have a Medion Laptop and it froze so I forced it off. Now when i load it in any mode (safe mode freezes after avg file) It will go to a black screen or a 0xc0000009 I/O error message.I've run it in start up repair and there aren't any system restore points available and start up repair took 17 hours before i decided to turn it off! What is going on!? My hardware doesn't make any strange sounds and my bios recognises my Hard Drive.Luckily, there's nothing important on the laptop so i don't mind if we have to reset it to factory settings as i have the Windows 7 installation disc as well!

I have a Dell Inspiron E1505 with Windows 7 (32bit) and it's not booting. I tried safe mode with and without networking as well as the startup repair and system restore options.Startup Repair basically said that it couldn't repair this computer automatically and this: [code] System Restore said that it couldn't access a file and something about anti-virus as well as "An unspecified error occurred duing System Restore. (0x 80070005)"..Seems like my only bet is to do something with Command Prompt... but I seriously don't have the slightest clue as to what.

No new softrware, no new hardware, I have not made any changes to it at all. I turned it on yesterday and after the Dell logo, it went to a black screen with a blinking cursor on top left.I turned it on and off a few times with no change. I finally got into the diagnostic screen (F8)and it did a thorough scan of all hardware. It came up clean. I shut it off and turned it back on again and Windows finally came up. I then did a scan of all windows files and that came up clean. After that I did a system restore and didnt have anymore issues with Win 7 booting up. Then about 45 mins ago I turned on the laptop and AGAIN the black screen came up with the blinking. I have no clue what else to check. I could call the place where I bought it from and Im sure their crack team would most likely find the problem only after giving up the laptop for 2 weeks which is what i was trying to avoid.

I burned the .iso windows 7 file onto a Sony DVD using Active@ ISO at 4x burn speed. Everything went fine with the burn and then i put my dvd burner (HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GSA-H31N) as the first in my bios and then restart, but then it doesn't boot...
I don't think the DVD is the problem as i put it into my mac and it shows the 2.36GB that the windows 7 .iso file is supposed to be. But interesting enough it doesn't show in vista and every time i click on the dvd the computer freezes up.
Also i tried a dvd earlier and it booted up but it didn't work (i didn't realize that the dvd was only 702mb...)
Any help? Suggestions?

somehow my hard disk partition became dynamic. i formatted system and insttaled windows 7 ultimate in the dynamic disk partition.from then onwards system is not booting. only black screen with cursor on the upper left corner of the black screen.if i am not wrong windows 7 cannot boot with dynamic disk. i will have to go to the disk management and after conversion of dynamic disk to basic disk with deleting all the volumes (data). it is possible to boot withwindows 7. but system is not booting...not opening..so i cannot go to disk management.hrad disk is showing some partitions with system reserved.except system reserved all the partitions are shwoing dynamic.and in only one partition formatting option and installing OS option is coming while i booting system with OS DVD.
reinstalltion through OS DVD is possble by booting through OS DVD. but in advanced option repartition option is not coming. the one partition in which i installed OS previously, only in that formatting option is coming.in other partition neither formating option is coming nor extend.
