Windows 7 No Advanced Button On File Properties
Dec 14, 2012I upgraded to win7 professional with the anytime upgrade. Thought I could now encrypt files but there is no advanced button on the files properties.

Indexing Is Not Running / Advanced Button Is Available
Jun 13, 2012When I go to Indexing Options within the Control Panel, the dropdown informs me that "Indexing is not running" and only the Advanced button is available. I really don't seem to be having problems with my searches although many a time when doing a search , there is a banner saying that "Your searches may be slow because index is not running." I will then click the prompt to index. The searches seem to be fast enough, but I really can't tell if they should be faster.Even though I have selected to index, when prompted, going into Index Options will still show that the index is not running??? Could it be that this action is only temporary at its time of use? Once I get indexing working, I would imagine that I would like to choose just those folders where speedy searching would be of benefit, but I'm not sure which files/folder they should be. I'm thinking Pictures, Music, Documents, Program Files (x86), Program Files.

Nov 24, 2011I changed the 'open with' of my .001 file into shell32.dll (I went to system 32 and just typed it in). I did this by right clicking the file, went to properties, then at Open With, clicked Change, then browsed over to Windows32 for shell32.dll by typing it in the file box and clicked enter. Now I regret my actions and want to change it back to its default original (which was: Windows Shell Common DLL). Now the menus and stuff on the files' Properties is totally different. And what's more, the Open with change button and all is gone! How do I put it back to the way it was?

If Auto-Hide is set ON in Taskbar Properties and RESTART is performed, Auto-Hide may work one time but then TASKBAR will not hide again. This is on an HP Dv6 Notebook that came with Windows 7 installed. Auto-Hide feature used to work most of the time?

Viewing The Properties Of A Video File?
Feb 19, 2011When viewing the properties of certain video files, such as .ts, I am not able to see the details of the video file such as audio and video bitrate. Other files such as .avi show fine.I don't know if it's related but I am also not able to view the file extensions on these same files though I can see the extensions on most others. Folder options show I am set to view hidden folders and to show file extensions. It doesn't appear to be a virus problem as I have checked with a number of virus programs and verified they found none.

Aug 30, 2012I have a number of video, music, and picture files that I like to annotate with sometimes pretty lengthy comments. When I previously used Windows Vista, it seems that I could enter very lengthy comments under the "Details" tab of the file properties, and all of that information would be retained (and displayed in the details folder view). With Windows 7, it appears there is a much smaller maximum field length for the comments that are saved, and anything entered that is longer than that is automatically truncated. Is there a way (possibly a registry modification) that I can enter longer comments?

Oct 23, 2011I was trying to change a mp3 file properties > details, but it won't let me. There is nothing listed. When looking in explorer, it shows no album information or title. It does it with video files as well, so I am assuming all properties.
When I do change something from the bottom, it gives me error 0x80004005: Unspecified error. 'An unexpected error is keeping you from applying properties to the file' I used to be able to, so not sure what happened!
MediaMonkey can see the details, but every file on the computer, I can't see the details in explorer? Do I have to register some .dll? Regserv32 of some sort?
Music File Properties Not Saving From Windows Vista Comp To Windows 7?
Aug 14, 2012I transferd all of my music files from my old laptop whih is a toshiba windows vista. Most of the files have the artist, album and genre. Howvere, when i view them on my new laptop a lenovo ideapad iwndows 7, it isn't showing the properties for most of them...some yes...but very few. i just dont get it. I tried t save to a hard drive and then save to the new comp and to save to a flash drive and upload...same result both ways. I dont want to have to go through all 2000+ musc files and reenter all the properties..

Aug 13, 2012Yesterday, the task bar and Start button mysteriously disappeared.I've also found that the "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties" windowdoesn't come up. There are two places to click on in Control Panelthat should bring up this window, but it doesn't. The Control Panelborder changes color as if something is starting to happen, but thennothing happens, possibly indicating that some program starts to runbut then finds something wrong and exits. I didn't see anythinginteresting in the error logs. The desktop icons appear normally.The problem exists only when logging onto my son's account. When Ilog on as administrator, the task bar and Start button appearnormally.The usual tricks don't work: Ctrl+ESC, or bringing up Task Manager andtrying to rerun explorer.exe. I tried sfc to check for corruptedfiles, but none turned up. I ran an AVG scan and it did find one fileit considered a threat, which it removed, but that didn't solve theproblem.
I found a web site that referred to the registrykeyHKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPoliciesExplorerwhich has a NoSetTaskbar value that can be used to disable the"Taskbar and Start Menu Properties" window. But when I log ontomy son's account, the Policies key had no subkeys at all. I triedadding an Explorer subkey without adding any values, but this didn'tsolve the problem. I haven't yet tried adding a NoDriveTypeAutoRunvalue, but since this seems to pertain to AutoPlay it didn't seemrelevant to this problem.Any thoughts as to what might be going on or what might fix it?
Doubled Clicked Mouse Button And Photo File Disappeared
Jan 6, 2013Yesterday I went to click on my photo file which has all my photos from as far back as 2006 and I clicked the mouse button fast and the file was gone. I hope I can recover it. It's all of my family photos. The file is on an external hard drive and not my computer.

Jun 9, 2011recently I used a software AVG PC Tuneup and it has never been a problem for me until a couple of days ago when I decided to install it on my DELL. Now, I went to system advisory and did a system scan on recommended settings, I pressed 'fix selected' and my Wifi was disabled, I tried everything. I can't get my wifi to work without plugging in my modem directly ot my pc. I noticed my wifi radio was disabled, so I pressed the F2 button but nothing worked. I am trying to re enable my wifi radio / wireless radio connection button but it won't work.
My program intel my wifi utility tells me my wifi is disabled but I can't enable it.

Jun 9, 2011Everytime I restart the computer it boots into a repair mode,attempts to repair my computer, and then tells me "startup repair cannot repair this computer automatically". Why it's doing this I don't know,the system was working fine an hour ago.The only change I made was to attempt to make my RAID work, I rebooted, entered BIOS and changed my "Sata Operation Mode" to "RAID",then the problems started happening. I tried turning it back, even resetting BIOS defaults, but no go. During the boot up though I turned my comp off during the middle of windows loading, I wonder if that could have caused the problem?I know it's not recommended but it's something I've always done and never had a problem with.I've been trying to access my Advanced boot menu to start windows normally(perhaps it's stuck in some kind of repair cycle?) but pressing f8 does nothing, I've tried a thousand times.
I put in my Windows 7 disk and attempted a repair through there which halfway worked. When I boot up now it gives me two OS options to choose from, Windows and Windows 7 Home Premium (Recovered).The latter one boots up windows fine but all of my files are gone and it's telling me my copy of windows is not genuine! I had the majority of my data so it's not a huge deal to do a clean install but I would like to avoid that if possible.I'm using an asrock 890fx mobo with AMD processor.

Sep 15, 2012I'm currently in safe mode in my windows 7 laptop which I can only access this computer by. The reason is because when i try to boot windows regularly, I get past the login screen then to be pwned by some black screen with my cursor only displaying. I downloaded a software from IOBit called Advanced system care, then I ran a full system clean. I came back later to reset my laptop and encountered an update, I let it update. When the update was finished, I started getting the Black screen of death.
Things I tried:
- System restore (It couldn't find a restore due to the update)
- Uninstalling updates (No difference was made)
- The CTRL+ALT+DEL then some link for the fix (CTRL+ALT+DEL doesn't work)
- Start up repair (Nope, no difference)
- The /sfc command (It worked but, still no difference)
I'm think pretty much stuck as I don't have a Windows 7 CD, although I have a formatted USB, I'm considering downgrading to XP. But, I'm getting problems with that as well.

Basically I have many computers in my home and I seem to have an issue with encryption and compatibility.I have.My Works PC - Dell Dimension 1100 Windows XP Pro My Works Laptop - Compaq Presario Windows XP Pro My Rig - Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit My Tablet PC - Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit My Partners Laptop - Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit My iPhone 4 My Rooter - D-Link DSL-2640R With the default settings in the rooter (Mixed WPA, WPA2) My iPhone, Works PC and Works Laptop connects to the wireless network no problem, it appears they are using WPA mode whilst connected. However my Windows 7 machines are all seeing the network as WPA2. When I attempt to connect to the network it fails on all Windows 7 Machines.I can only seem to connect the Windows 7 machines if I change from "Mixed WPA, WPA2" to "WPA2 Only" which then knocks out all the Windows XP machines However if I disable wireless encryption, which I don't particularly want to do. All the machines work correctly with no problems!I do have a function for "Guest Network" which broadcasts a 2nd separate SSID, but you cant use encryption on it. That could run the Windows 7 Machines but the problem is I don't know how secure it is.
