Increase The Length Of Comments For File Properties?
Aug 30, 2012
I have a number of video, music, and picture files that I like to annotate with sometimes pretty lengthy comments. When I previously used Windows Vista, it seems that I could enter very lengthy comments under the "Details" tab of the file properties, and all of that information would be retained (and displayed in the details folder view). With Windows 7, it appears there is a much smaller maximum field length for the comments that are saved, and anything entered that is longer than that is automatically truncated. Is there a way (possibly a registry modification) that I can enter longer comments?
I just put together a new PC with decent motherboard, AMD quad CPU, 8 GB RAM, solid-state C: main drive, new 2 TB disk slave drive F:, plus an older external drive G:. I loaded Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64 bit.I have many video files (mp4, flv, mpg, mpeg & wmv). These were compiled on another computer running XP Home SP3. The problem is that I can no longer access file details, which is a huge problem. So, when I right-click a file name, hit Properties, Details, Comments, my old text notes are either missing or there is no comments field, depending on file type. I see all users have full rights, and I unchecked Read-only and Hidden File and applied to all. No change. I tried copying files to the other drives ... no change.
The mp4 files don't show my old notes in the empty Comments line. The flv files show no comments line at all. The mpg and mpeg have a blank Comments line that cannot be filled in; same for Nero VOB files. The wmv files, however, are the only ones that show the old notes in the comments line.As for pics, the jpg files seem to have their comments intact (whew!).If I put the external drive back on the XP machine, the comments are there. I later installed Nero 9 from their website
When viewing the properties of certain video files, such as .ts, I am not able to see the details of the video file such as audio and video bitrate. Other files such as .avi show fine.I don't know if it's related but I am also not able to view the file extensions on these same files though I can see the extensions on most others. Folder options show I am set to view hidden folders and to show file extensions. It doesn't appear to be a virus problem as I have checked with a number of virus programs and verified they found none.
I was trying to change a mp3 file properties > details, but it won't let me. There is nothing listed. When looking in explorer, it shows no album information or title. It does it with video files as well, so I am assuming all properties.
When I do change something from the bottom, it gives me error 0x80004005: Unspecified error. 'An unexpected error is keeping you from applying properties to the file' I used to be able to, so not sure what happened!
MediaMonkey can see the details, but every file on the computer, I can't see the details in explorer? Do I have to register some .dll? Regserv32 of some sort?
Have created some basic online forms. Now I am tasked with displaying each entire field length (visually somehow) so the user can see approximately how much room they have to enter test. Examples:Name: Field length highlighted or shaded Location: Underlining would work to indicate field lengthPhone: ( Parenthesis might work )If I type "Enter Name Here" in Properties, under Default Text, only "Enter Name Here" is shaded. The shading does not extend to the maximum length I selected. The field extends that far, but no indicator of the entire field length
A certain set of programs take over a minute to run. If I double click the executable it takes over a minute before the program launches.Equally attempting to access the file properties takes a similar amount of time.(the file happens to be audioconverter.exe (part of a set of programs to re-encode mkv's - e.g. strip out of the dts track and reencode with ac3, etc.)Only files in this set of sub-directories seem to be affected, the rest of the machine performs perfectly
Is there a way to rename or create new sorting option with custom text ?there is a lot of categories, however i need to have my own custom labeled field then in the Detail view panel, by default, in the small size, there are these fields ready to edit:
- tags - categories - content status
the easiest way would be if i could rename those to my needs so it stays easily editable for the user?
I transferd all of my music files from my old laptop whih is a toshiba windows vista. Most of the files have the artist, album and genre. Howvere, when i view them on my new laptop a lenovo ideapad iwndows 7, it isn't showing the properties for most of them...some yes...but very few. i just dont get it. I tried t save to a hard drive and then save to the new comp and to save to a flash drive and upload...same result both ways. I dont want to have to go through all 2000+ musc files and reenter all the properties..
I'm working with a 1997-2003 Compatibility View spreadsheet in Excel Starter and I use Comments (the little windows to pop-up when you hover the mouse over a cell) throughout.
I don't see how to edit or delete them, when I right-click, it only gives me "show/hide" them.
I'm still not too familiar with Windows 7 that is installed on my laptand would like to know how do you go about changing the propertieswhen you put in a blank dvd or cd or a movie????There are certain programs coming up that I don't want towhen I insert blank media or movies. moranacus has chosen the best answer to his/her question.Click here to view the answer that was selected.
I recently went through the Malware forum to get rid of some nastiness on my machine...and there appears to be one small casualty left to fix. I cannot get into System Properties any of the "normal' ways...-When I right click on "Computer" I do see "Properties" I click on it and the explorer window flashes once (like something tried to happen)-When I right click on "Computer" in the start menu, the start menu disappears (like it does when you open something)-When I use the keyboard shortcut (Windows key + Pause/Break) nothing happens. The only way I CAN get to system properties is by using the run command: "sysdm.cpl"
I'm running a game at the moment, which is leaving two black bars on either side of the screen when trying to play it. Anyway, I know that to fix this I need to go into the Graphics Properties and change some of the scaling settings. However, I cannot find the Graphics Properties anywhere. Some people are saying that I need to right click on the desktop and select it, but it isn't there when I right click.Basically, could somebody inform me on how to access the Graphics Properties so I can change my scaling settings please?
In this tutorial, we continue to explore the many features of Windows Explorer by taking a look at folder properties. We'll mainly be concentrating on how to customize folder types to make exploring your computer even easier.
i want to change the properties of an album like artists, tracks etc.but i can'tthe properties, it wonti think the problem lies hereiwent to help and support and read the following note: The Remove Properties dialog box only removes properties that were added using Windows. If you added properties using a different program, you must remove those properties using that program.
I want to change DNS address but when in "Network connection properties" I select the "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) line the Properties button is not active and I can not click it to open and change the DNS address. Also I see now that Properties button is inactive for all the other lines too.. I triend uninstalling network card driver and reinstalling it but still same problem. This problem is happening with my both Wireless Network Adapter and Wired Lan adapter.
As the tittle says,I want to remove the properties feature because the feature isn't something I want to install.
Perhaps is caused by rootkit, however my ESET doesn't detect anything.
Look at screen-shot below, the properties option that I highlighted is what I want to remove, but I dunno the way to remove properties option. location where the properties feature located then I want to remove it as soon as possible. I try other AV because I just want to remove the option manually.
i'm looking for a way remove these options from my properties list.I want to remove the option where I highlighted, maybe there have some registry to clean up,please show me the way to remove these options
when I copied over fonts to the windows fonts and told it to replace the current font it didn't do what I wanted. For example I copied over a font with the name HS.ttf, and when I now look at the corresponding font it is called HS_1.ttf. I have a certain program that looks in the WindowsFonts folder for a font called HS.ttf and it currently can't find that file. I thought no big deal I'll just rename HS_1.ttf to HS.ttf. That's where I have a problem, when I try to do that it gives me the error 'Cannot rename HS_1: A file with the name you specified already exists. Specify a different file name.' When I do a search for a file called HS.ttf it can't be found anywhere. How do I go about finding and removing this HS.ttf and renaming my HS_1.ttf file so that my program can correctly find the font file I want it to?
I have vista 64-bit installed on my dell laptop and hope this is the right forum. I installed it a couple days ago after formatting everything on the hard drive. Now when I right click on my computer in start menu the properties don't pop up. I dislike vista already but is this vista-related? or infected? I don't think so, since I installed it a couple days ago after another virus had infected the system
This morning I attempted to view the properties of one of my drive in Windows explorer. Properties is a selection on the context menu, but clicking it does absolutely nothing. I have 3 drive in my system and the same behavior is true for all of them.To add to the mystery, properties works fine for files, directories and Computer. I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium with SP1 fully patched.

Until Win 7 you could find Printer Server Properties in the "Printer Control Panel" by right clicking in any white area and choose "Server Properties". This is where you would add new form sizes. How do you add custom page sizes in Win 7? It is not in the same place.
Like the title says when i click start , right click computer go to properties my processor and ram appear not available. Is there something i could do to fix this ?
