Querying The Microsoft Knowledge Base In Help And Support Center
Jun 24, 2008
for whatever search term that i entered within the help and support center, it gets me 0 results just under the ms knowledge base area, even though i have that search option set and i'm conected to the internet. How could this be?
When I search in Help and Support Center, no results are returned for the Microsoft Knowledge Base. I know this worked in the past (though how long ago, I have no idea). The option to search the Knowledge Base is checked. There are no other system problems to indicate corrupt system files. I've searched the web but haven't found anything yet that seems to apply. I'm reluctant to run a full SFC scan or repair the entire Help and Support feature since all other options appear to be working.
After installing SP2, I found that Task Scheduler doesn't work. It generates this error:"An error has occurred while attempting to get task account information. The specific error is: 0x80070005. Access is denied. You do not have permission to perform the required operation."I searched Microsoft's Knowledge Base, and found this fix. Microsoft acknowledges that it is a problem
i ran qfecheck in windows XP home edition, there were loads of KB files that needed reinstalling all were successful execpt the following, i downloaded from microsoft.

I'm working on my Father In Laws' computer, and for some reason, we can't open his Help and Support Center. I have searched everywhere to find the right path to get to it, and no luck. It worked recently, but it's gone now. I have gone through the Services.msc looking for anything that may be disabled that would effect it, but nothing so far.
I've noticed when I access the Help and Support Center - Start/ Help and Support in Windows XP, next to "Did you know?" it says it was last updated on Monday, December 20, 2004. I'm just curious as to what the date is on other XP users system.
I am unable to open the Help and Support Center in XP (Home) I recently installed and ran a registry cleaner. I am unable to restore to an earlier setting either from system restore or the registry cleaner's back-up I have looked in microsofts KB, articles 888018 & 555329 to no avail. The value data of the following key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionApp PathsHELPCTR.EXE is C:WINDOWSPCHealthHelpCtrBinariesHelpCtr.exe which appears to be correct I believe the program tries to run but task manager never shows it. I get no error messages at all
can't access help and support from start menu or browser and receive error message (windows can not open help and support because a system service is not running. to fix this problem, start the service named "help and support'). i tried using my dimension resourse cd to no end. what am i missing?
I was using Excel and tried to access the help screen, a gray window opened with no content. I had the Office XP installation disk "repair" the installation. there was no change. I tried MSWord. Help screen was same as in Excel - blank. I then tried to access Help and Support Center from the Start Menu. It would not open. I solved the probem by running the restore tool from the System Tools folder and setting the machine back to a time 1 week earlier, but I have no idea what would cause this issue. My machine uses ZoneAlarm Pro, Norton Anti-Virus, Sunbelt CounterSpy and is behind a router so I don't think it was the result of a malicious program.
I tried to access my Help & Support Center link from the startup menu, and the following message comes up: Windows cannot find 'helpctr.exe. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search.
I have upgraded my dell dimension 2400 from XP Home to XP Pro, when I open XP's Help and Support Center I know it is suppossed to give you links in the DID YOU KNOW? section, but mine won't do that I just get the message saying: "When you are connected to the Internet, this area will display links to timely help and support information. If you want to connect to the Internet now, start the New Connection Wizard and see how to establish a Web connection through an Internet service provider." I have done everything I know but it still won't show the links and I am connected to the internet by an always on DSL connection.
i've tried every button, tab, link, place, used Search, check my installation disc but can not get Help & Support Center to open up! it's as if it has just disappeared from the system even though it's listed all over. In the Dell Solution Center it looks like this: Help and Support Find answers to your questions, troubleshooting information, and help performing tasks in the Help and Support Center. but won't open! it won't open from the Help tab at top of page!
the Help and Support service wasn't displaying, but I ran a registry fix to correct the problem. Now when I go to Start and click Help and Support Center, nothing happens. I opened up the task manager and what happens is the process "Helpctr.exe" appears, but then it disappears. I have reinstalled Help and Support several times from my Windows disk, but it keeps happening.
I am unable to start the help and support center, I have viewed the previous posts and tried the solutions, to no avail I have carried out a repair install of Xp from the original cd, but still nothing If I have Task manager open when initialising Help and Suppot the following occurs Helpctr.exe runs, HelpSVC.exe runs then after about 2 seconds Helpctr.exe disappears. Ramesh MS-MVP wrote, run the following commands
helpctr -regserver regsvr32 itss regsvr32 hhctrl.ocx regsvr32 jscript all were successful apart from helpctr -regserver, which generated nothing.
i am on an XP operating system on a dell. everytime one of the users logs off, we get the window that says "ending program sprtcmd.exe", and then we have to go and end program manually every time we log off. i read a similar post on here where someone was having that problem, and was told it was related to the dell support center, and they were advised to uninstall it. i tried to uninstall the dell support center, and this message pops up: "Error 1306. Another application has exclusive access to the file c:/Documents and settingsBarbLocal SettingsApplication DataSupport SoftDell Support CenterBarbstate logssprtcmd.log. Please shut down all other applications then click Retry"
It will not let me click retry, i have to close out the little window or hit cancel, then it goes through a little more of the "windows configuring", and then i get a little window for "add or remove programs" that says "fatal error during installation" and then that's that. it won't let me uninstall the program! i know this isn't a major problem or anything, but still having to manually click that window everytime i log off is quite aggrivating.
First off help and support message, when clicked on would not open because it could not find helpctr.exe file in binaries. I have fixed that and started svc service but now when I click on help and support the hour glass flickers but nothing opens. It is not a registry problem because app paths are correct and svc service is started...Why isnt the center coming up on screen?
A colleage has experienced a trojan named 'Killreg'. The trojan has been cleaned but there now is a problem with Windows Help and Support (caused by the Trojan or not, I don't know). The Help and Support program runs but the Help and Support service is not running and not present in the Services list. Does anyone know how to initiate this service please.
I recently installed Counter Spy Spyware software on my computer and I am no longer able use the help and support function in windows XP. When you clidk help and support the program freezes up.
i turned on my computer today and this error thing pops up.. it says Runtime Error!Program C:WINDOWSExplorer.exeThis application has requested the runtime to terminate it in a unusual way. Please contact the applications support team for more informationi dont know what the suport team is. and whenever i click ok all my icons go away for 5 seconds then show back up and it pops up again. and it keeps going from there.
Its all started when the malware paytime.exe attacked my pc. It turned off my firewall(SP2 Firewall), real-time virus scanner(Trend microoffice client, not using its firewall, provided by my service provider). With the help of hijackthis, spybot and ewido and also the interent , able to delete paytime.exe and its related files. To this I entered in safe mode. Now I am able to control my firewall. Thats the only success BUT when I click nvmixer.exe in my taskbar, it shows visual C++ runtime error and my virus scanner is saying that officescan client has not started. So in control panel I entered in administrative tools and tried manually to start real time scan process but I failed again. It shows cannot start this process in safe mode.

I keep getting the following message errorloading C:winntsystem32msa64chk.dll. I tried to clear it by reloading windows xp but not only did it not change but now i have a corrupt file on some software. which says cannot find data base file or data base file is corrupt.
I just loaded windows XP disk and was trying to follow directions from a website and I am so afraid to hit the wrong button! I am at the very beginning, screen says: The following list shows the existing partitions and unpartioned space on this computer, use arrows to select item in list: There is only one C: (HP Pavillion (FAT 32)I thought I should just delete that, and start over, but when I said delete it said it would maybe remove things I would need.....
My friend has a laptop with XP Professional installed. It was bought 2nd hand with no discs. Can he install XP Home Edition and use the Product key on the base of the laptop,or is this key only for Pro.Failing that can he use a new XP Home Upgrade to go over top of the Pro Edition? In case anyone is thinking the obvious, it isn't stolen. He just wants to wipe everything out and put on the laptop what he wants. I was thinking of using my XP Home for the job.
I got a virus. i took care of the problem but my desktop is just white. i still see the icons but the wallpaper is white. if i right click and go to properties i can change the base color but not the wallpaper design. if i go on the internet and set a picture as background it does nothing, but if i log off it will show.
