View 8 RepliesWhen I search in Help and Support Center, no results are returned for the Microsoft Knowledge Base. I know this worked in the past (though how long ago, I have no idea). The option to search the Knowledge Base is checked. There are no other system problems to indicate corrupt system files. I've searched the web but haven't found anything yet that seems to apply. I'm reluctant to run a full SFC scan or repair the entire Help and Support feature since all other options appear to be working.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm working on my Father In Laws' computer, and for some reason, we can't open his Help and Support Center. I have searched everywhere to find the right path to get to it, and no luck. It worked recently, but it's gone now. I have gone through the Services.msc looking for anything that may be disabled that would effect it, but nothing so far.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI was using Excel and tried to access the help screen, a gray window opened with no content. I had the Office XP installation disk "repair" the installation. there was no change. I tried MSWord. Help screen was same as in Excel - blank. I then tried to access Help and Support Center from the Start Menu. It would not open. I solved the probem by running the restore tool from the System Tools folder and setting the machine back to a time 1 week earlier, but I have no idea what would cause this issue. My machine uses ZoneAlarm Pro, Norton Anti-Virus, Sunbelt CounterSpy and is behind a router so I don't think it was the result of a malicious program.

I have upgraded my dell dimension 2400 from XP Home to XP Pro, when I open XP's Help and Support Center I know it is suppossed to give you links in the DID YOU KNOW? section, but mine won't do that I just get the message saying: "When you are connected to the Internet, this area will display links to timely help and support information. If you want to connect to the Internet now, start the New Connection Wizard and see how to establish a Web connection through an Internet service provider." I have done everything I know but it still won't show the links and I am connected to the internet by an always on DSL connection.
View 9 Replies View Relatedi've tried every button, tab, link, place, used Search, check my installation disc but can not get Help & Support Center to open up! it's as if it has just disappeared from the system even though it's listed all over. In the Dell Solution Center it looks like this: Help and Support Find answers to your questions, troubleshooting information, and help performing tasks in the Help and Support Center. but won't open! it won't open from the Help tab at top of page!
View 1 Replies View Relatedthe Help and Support service wasn't displaying, but I ran a registry fix to correct the problem. Now when I go to Start and click Help and Support Center, nothing happens. I opened up the task manager and what happens is the process "Helpctr.exe" appears, but then it disappears. I have reinstalled Help and Support several times from my Windows disk, but it keeps happening.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am unable to start the help and support center, I have viewed the previous posts and tried the solutions, to no avail I have carried out a repair install of Xp from the original cd, but still nothing If I have Task manager open when initialising Help and Suppot the following occurs Helpctr.exe runs, HelpSVC.exe runs then after about 2 seconds Helpctr.exe disappears. Ramesh MS-MVP wrote, run the following commands
helpctr -regserver
regsvr32 itss
regsvr32 hhctrl.ocx
regsvr32 jscript
all were successful apart from helpctr -regserver, which generated nothing.
i am on an XP operating system on a dell. everytime one of the users logs off, we get the window that says "ending program sprtcmd.exe", and then we have to go and end program manually every time we log off. i read a similar post on here where someone was having that problem, and was told it was related to the dell support center, and they were advised to uninstall it. i tried to uninstall the dell support center, and this message pops up: "Error 1306. Another application has exclusive access to the file c:/Documents and settingsBarbLocal SettingsApplication DataSupport SoftDell Support CenterBarbstate logssprtcmd.log.
Please shut down all other applications then click Retry"
It will not let me click retry, i have to close out the little window or hit cancel, then it goes through a little more of the "windows configuring", and then i get a little window for "add or remove programs" that says "fatal error during installation" and then that's that. it won't let me uninstall the program! i know this isn't a major problem or anything, but still having to manually click that window everytime i log off is quite aggrivating.
for whatever search term that i entered within the help and support center, it gets me 0 results just under the ms knowledge base area, even though i have that search option set and i'm conected to the internet. How could this be?
View 14 Replies View RelatedFirst off help and support message, when clicked on would not open because it could not find helpctr.exe file in binaries. I have fixed that and started svc service but now when I click on help and support the hour glass flickers but nothing opens. It is not a registry problem because app paths are correct and svc service is started...Why isnt the center coming up on screen?

View 2 Replies View RelatedTo use this setting, type the fully qualified path and name of the file that stores the wallpaper image. You can type a local path, such as C:Windowswebwallpaperhome.jpg or a UNC path, such as \ServerShareCorp.jpg. If the specified file is not available when the user logs on, no wallpaper is displayed. Users cannot specify alternative wallpaper. You can also use this setting to specify that the wallpaper image be centered, tiled, or stretched. Users cannot change this specification.

View 6 Replies View RelatedWhat is the best way to share execution priviledges between limited users, power users, and administrators?Say an application has already been installed by a higher priviledged user type, and a limited user cannot execute it - e.g. an ISP login software, or Spy Sweeper. Note: ISP login software lacks profile, so I suppose I could just create that, however, Spy Sweeper is a head scratcher.Should the application be uninstalled and reinstall under All Users? How do you install an application to allow All Users to use it?I have already tried to use the "Run As" right-click Properties w/Shift key approach and that does not work.Is there an approach with regard to local security policy that would do what I want to do? How is that done? Or, is Access Control List the way to go?
