View 2 RepliesI'm working on my Father In Laws' computer, and for some reason, we can't open his Help and Support Center. I have searched everywhere to find the right path to get to it, and no luck. It worked recently, but it's gone now. I have gone through the Services.msc looking for anything that may be disabled that would effect it, but nothing so far.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've noticed when I access the Help and Support Center - Start/ Help and Support in Windows XP, next to "Did you know?" it says it was last updated on Monday, December 20, 2004. I'm just curious as to what the date is on other XP users system.

I am unable to restore to an earlier setting either from system restore or the registry cleaner's back-up I have looked in microsofts KB, articles 888018 & 555329 to no avail. The value data of the following key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionApp PathsHELPCTR.EXE is C:WINDOWSPCHealthHelpCtrBinariesHelpCtr.exe which appears to be correct I believe the program tries to run but task manager never shows it. I get no error messages at all
I can't get the Help & Support Center and Search functions to load. In addition Users in Control Panel will not load.
View 8 Replies View Relatedcan't access help and support from start menu or browser and receive error message (windows can not open help and support because a system service is not running. to fix this problem, start the service named "help and support'). i tried using my dimension resourse cd to no end. what am i missing?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI was using Excel and tried to access the help screen, a gray window opened with no content. I had the Office XP installation disk "repair" the installation. there was no change. I tried MSWord. Help screen was same as in Excel - blank. I then tried to access Help and Support Center from the Start Menu. It would not open. I solved the probem by running the restore tool from the System Tools folder and setting the machine back to a time 1 week earlier, but I have no idea what would cause this issue. My machine uses ZoneAlarm Pro, Norton Anti-Virus, Sunbelt CounterSpy and is behind a router so I don't think it was the result of a malicious program.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI tried to access my Help & Support Center link from the startup menu, and the following message comes up:
Windows cannot find 'helpctr.exe. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search.
I have upgraded my dell dimension 2400 from XP Home to XP Pro, when I open XP's Help and Support Center I know it is suppossed to give you links in the DID YOU KNOW? section, but mine won't do that I just get the message saying: "When you are connected to the Internet, this area will display links to timely help and support information. If you want to connect to the Internet now, start the New Connection Wizard and see how to establish a Web connection through an Internet service provider." I have done everything I know but it still won't show the links and I am connected to the internet by an always on DSL connection.
View 9 Replies View Relatedi've tried every button, tab, link, place, used Search, check my installation disc but can not get Help & Support Center to open up! it's as if it has just disappeared from the system even though it's listed all over. In the Dell Solution Center it looks like this: Help and Support Find answers to your questions, troubleshooting information, and help performing tasks in the Help and Support Center. but won't open! it won't open from the Help tab at top of page!
View 1 Replies View Relatedthe Help and Support service wasn't displaying, but I ran a registry fix to correct the problem. Now when I go to Start and click Help and Support Center, nothing happens. I opened up the task manager and what happens is the process "Helpctr.exe" appears, but then it disappears. I have reinstalled Help and Support several times from my Windows disk, but it keeps happening.
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I search in Help and Support Center, no results are returned for the Microsoft Knowledge Base. I know this worked in the past (though how long ago, I have no idea). The option to search the Knowledge Base is checked. There are no other system problems to indicate corrupt system files. I've searched the web but haven't found anything yet that seems to apply. I'm reluctant to run a full SFC scan or repair the entire Help and Support feature since all other options appear to be working.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am unable to start the help and support center, I have viewed the previous posts and tried the solutions, to no avail I have carried out a repair install of Xp from the original cd, but still nothing If I have Task manager open when initialising Help and Suppot the following occurs Helpctr.exe runs, HelpSVC.exe runs then after about 2 seconds Helpctr.exe disappears. Ramesh MS-MVP wrote, run the following commands
helpctr -regserver
regsvr32 itss
regsvr32 hhctrl.ocx
regsvr32 jscript
all were successful apart from helpctr -regserver, which generated nothing.
i am on an XP operating system on a dell. everytime one of the users logs off, we get the window that says "ending program sprtcmd.exe", and then we have to go and end program manually every time we log off. i read a similar post on here where someone was having that problem, and was told it was related to the dell support center, and they were advised to uninstall it. i tried to uninstall the dell support center, and this message pops up: "Error 1306. Another application has exclusive access to the file c:/Documents and settingsBarbLocal SettingsApplication DataSupport SoftDell Support CenterBarbstate logssprtcmd.log.
Please shut down all other applications then click Retry"
It will not let me click retry, i have to close out the little window or hit cancel, then it goes through a little more of the "windows configuring", and then i get a little window for "add or remove programs" that says "fatal error during installation" and then that's that. it won't let me uninstall the program! i know this isn't a major problem or anything, but still having to manually click that window everytime i log off is quite aggrivating.
for whatever search term that i entered within the help and support center, it gets me 0 results just under the ms knowledge base area, even though i have that search option set and i'm conected to the internet. How could this be?
View 14 Replies View RelatedFirst off help and support message, when clicked on would not open because it could not find helpctr.exe file in binaries. I have fixed that and started svc service but now when I click on help and support the hour glass flickers but nothing opens. It is not a registry problem because app paths are correct and svc service is started...Why isnt the center coming up on screen?

View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I just got the Xbox 360 COD special edition. There's an option to somehow connect your computer to your Xbox. The requirement is to go through the Media Center. Well, first time starting up the Media Center on my computer, and I'm not able to get the Media Center to open. I receive an error right on startup of the program. It ends up generating a crash report, and closes. I've take 2 screenshots of the error. The first screenshot is of the first error that comes up upon opening the Media Center. The second screenshot is of another error I get when I choose to cancel instead of clicking ok on the first error.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have just installed a Samsung CLX-2160 on my Dell Dimension 5150 PC,which runs Windows XP Media Centre. As soon as the PC started reading the installation CD, it crashed with the following (taken from event viewer):The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x0000007e (0xc0000005, 0x804f106f, 0xba4fbaac, 0xba4fb7a8). A dump was saved in: C:WINDOWSMEMORY.DMP.
I rebooted with F8 and chose last working config. After a little enlightened guesswork and advice I removed my old Dell 725 printer driver(which had started giving an error message on startup). Now I could load the Samsung driver etc and the new printer works. However, XP still crashes whenever I reboot normally I can still bring up a working system with F8 as above (but I have to reload my PCI card drivers again - 2 port serial and sound card - for some reason)
I do not show the Security Center Icon in the Control Panel. I can go to the Security Center by going to All Programs, Accessories, System Tool, route. How can I add Security Center to Control Panel?
View 1 Replies View RelatedProblems started to occure on March 18,2007.
I load up my pc like normal. My McAfee had a strange error come up, it said "McAfee Security Center:Your computer is not fully protected". So I clicked it. I try to configure it so that I could get my suite working. Well nothing happened. I pressed auto fix, and it wouldnt work. So the security suite said that i should do a re-install.
I completely removed it through add/remove programs. And tried to do a re install using my disc. It then said that the spam protection would load. Now everytime i try to load my security center, nothing shows. It just sits there.. Well now tonight at 10:59 on March 19 everything went down the hell hole. Now I figured that I was not the only person with this error so I actually found a post

I tried to do what was on the list.
Well what a thing happened. I now can't load any exe, or use and lnk file. It asks me to either choose from list, or search the net. I am in a sticky situation. I can't load regedit, I can't use system restore. I tried to use my dell operating system disc. to reinstall or go to a system restore point by loading up the disc. Well nothing is working, the only thing I can access properly are my flash games, and the internet, by using any address bar.

View 6 Replies View Relatedthe colors in my Security Center have changed. First I thought it was a problen with the windowblinds skin I was using but I don't think it is. Could it be the WB program itself? I didn't have this problem (fresh OS install) until after I installed a few things, WB, avast, zonealarm, and uninstalled antivis.

Wondering which versions of XP can Access which other versions of XP.Specifically, can media center edition access media center edition , or do one or both OS's have to be XP PRO. My understanding is that XP Home cannot access or be accessed via Remote Access.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhat does end for support for a Windows mean?As far as I understand it means that updates (even critical) won't be available after that date. But how about a Service Pack. E.g. Windows XP SP2 deadline is set for 11 July 2010. Will Windows XP owners who have Windows XP SP2 version on a disc be able to successfully activate their copies of Windows after that date.

I think it's true to say XP - when maintained up-to-date - will continue in support until 2014.
I recently installed Windows XP Media Edition, and everything works fine, except the "Help and Support" application off the Start Menu. When I open that, it comes up in Chinese. Everything else is English. Anybody know how to fix this?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI wanted to make this my special post, as its my 1000, and encourage all members to use their System Restore more, I keep a system restore icon on my desktop and make a restore point everyday, I know the computer is suppose to do it, but it makes me feel better, evertime I make drastic changes or questionable downloads I make a restore point, I simply type call it rp it only takes less than 10 seconds, if everyone did this we really could cut down on ourTech Support. Have a good day. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u...w_03may19.mspx
