When I start Windows XP, after the desktop loads, the "Programs" file opens automatically. This just started happening out of the blue and happens with every start up.

When ever I boot, or restart my computer, the startup folder automatically opens on the desktop. Can someone tell me how to stop this from happening? Also recently, whenever I open a Microsoft program, Word, Excell Office Project tries to load. I have to cluck Cancel several times to stop it.
View 6 Replies View Related2005 MCE WIN XP, if i go to START, ALL PROGRAMS, and scan thru my programs, the amount of time to scroll thru programs is about 3-4 seconds, before it closes out, also RENAMING a folder, on desktop, same thing happens, for instance, renaming a folder PICTURES, i get to PIC, then it kicks me out. I have OPtical wireless mouse, replaced batteries with fully charged ones, no difference, also mouse 12 inches from reciever.

View 14 Replies View RelatedSo i just got home from camping and a window is popped up on internet explorer saying things about "anti virus" well there was a red shield at the bottom of my browser where you can click to see what time it is and what day and such well i had never seen it there befor and it also turns blue, when i click on it it goes to this website "http://asecurityservice.com/" tryed blocking it and eveything but i cannot get rid of it also when rebooting it changed from the sheild to a yelloy triangle with a black ! in it and it flashes and will pop up a not about downloading an antivirus. i use firefox as my main browser and it seems ok but when i click the explorer one it goes to that website again???even after i set the default homepage to say google! here is a full hijack log

You can't click anything or do anything else. She has lost her XP disk so I can't restore the system. I tried booting up in Safe Mode, but it still freezes on the desktop I am completely clueless on what to do. Is there any software available that could boot from a disk and do something?
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhenever I start my PC, 90 percent of the time it loads to the desktop but explorer.exe wont run. If I start Task Manager and run it from there, for the first few minutes an error pops up saying I don't have admin rights to access the file, but then later on it runs ok. But then, when it does load, only the volume control will load on the start bar, and if I try to access anything, (internet etc.) it doesnt work at all. Also my Folder Options in the Control Panel have disappeared, and Ive tried many ways to get it back, such as running gpedit, and it also wont let me access the registry, saying I dont have admin rights, even though I am the only user of the PC, and I have full admin rights. Sometimes it won't load at all, just booting to a black screen with the pointer stuck in the middle, and I have to restart it to get it to do anything.
If I run the computer in safe mode, the explorer bar has a 50/50 chance of loading on startup, and I still have the same problems. I ran Webroot Spy Sweeper, which picked a few spy cookies and whatnot, but nothing significant, but it seems to be getting progressively worse every time I restart the PC.The PC also refuses to boot the XP startup disk, cos I wanted to Repair Windows to see if that would fix the problem, and also trying to reset to default with BIOS and using MSCONFIG didnt work either. Im pretty sure Im forgetting something else that was quite important, but I cant remember what it is.... also System Restore has been wiped clean, so I cant restore my PC to an earlier time... I tried running a Virus scan using Virgin Media antivirus and Webroot Spy Sweeper Deep System Scan, but no luck, both just picked up minore spy cookie and stuff
I recently had to do a system restore and now my .jpg and jpeg files have a bad file icon. They still do open with the windows pic program as I want them to - but only on the admin accout, I usually surf and play and do everything else with a user account, and even if I reset everything under folder options for the file associacions it somehow doesn't apply to the other account.
windows tells me in the file association menu that I changed the file association's properties and can set them back to standart "photo suite 6" - a program that I uninstalled ages ago
recently my computer takes ages to get passed the Windows XP load screen. Sometimes the scrolling bars stop and it freezes before i it loads the desktop. It works if i safe boot it, but often it doesn't pass the Windows XP startup screen, or it takes a long time (approx 100s) to get passed it. Before it only took at most 10 seconds. It don't know why it's doing it. I've tried running a registry mechanic, prefetch cleaner and all that jazz.But it's still taking awhile to get passed that XP screen.
View 9 Replies View Relatedi ran some pretty complicated malware-removal programs since my PC (on the office network) was showing loads of trojans and other malware. in the order of running, i ran Malwarebytes, MGTools, Combofix with the windows recovery option. Then, on not having found anything substantial, I uninstalled Combofix with the /u optiom and deleted C:Combofix and later, proceeded to delete C:MGTools.The PC allows me to do a Ctrl+Alt+Del log in, and once I hit Return after entering the password, it just shows me the blue background to the desktop - No items, no menus.Same thing happens in safe mode.

On startup, all the programs that run automatically fail to and the "Program not responding" message is displayed for each one, and programs continue try to open to no effect. Any program which i try opening after that also has this problem. When i look at the task manager, no processes are given any memory usage.

View 28 Replies View RelatedThis is new and just started a few weeks ago. Once in a while I'll doubleclick the "My Computer" icon and all 5 of my desktop icons will open their windows. I also noticed my type-ahead launcher won't respond to its hotkey when this happens. It doesn't feel like that's the problem though. The bad behavior won't stop until I reboot. The first time this happened I tried a logoff to see if that would be enough to fix it but, my machine wouldn't recognize my password. The password is recognized on restart.Restart has been my only fix so far. Does this sound like anything to anyone?

View 10 Replies View RelatedIt got infected with Windows Police Pro. After disabling that, there are several 'remnants' left over. The only way I can run any spyware/malware removal programs is to install it fresh. The program(s) will open, then it'll shut down 2 seconds into the scan. It even shuts down my registry cleaner as soon as it begins to clean (after it finds all the errors). All these programs simply terminate themselves. It does this in SafeMode as well.
