Nov 22, 2008My computer runs great. Now on restart I get internet explorer loading each time automatically. Don't know why. Explorer shows a website that wants me to buy software to help fix computer problems--imagine that.

Feb 26, 2005I just now installed the KDE Cygwin (kde-cygwin)for Windows on my Win XP SP2 machine. However, upon restart I am now receiving the message "NTLDR Missing". I have tried following the instruction found on numerous forums and at computerhope.com but I continue to receive the same message every restart. This is what I have done so far: Restarted with the Win XP CD-ROM and went to the Recovery Console. Logged into my C: drive using the admin password. Copied "F:i386NTLDR" and "F:i386NTDETECT.com" to the root of my C drive. Ran "bootcfg /rebuild" and then "fixboot". After doing all of the above I restarted and am still met with the "NTLDR Missing" message. Again I booted back into the Recovery Console and checked to see what had been written into the boot.ini file using "bootcfg /list" and this is what I got:

Does this look right?? I tried typing the "fixmbr" command in and was met with the message, "This computer appears to have a non-standard or invalid master boot record." which was followed the threat that if I continued then I might lose all of the data on my drive, which is not an option for me. I am trying to avoid the need run a "repair installation" from the Win XP boot CD. That would require a lot of PITA work to update Windows back to SP2 and reinstall a bunch of other apps.
Pressing Restart Option Twice For Making System Restart?
Sep 24, 2009All of a sudden, in the last couple of days, I find that I have to go through my Start>Turn off Computer > Restart twice in order for the computer to restart. Unfortunately, I've made a LOT of changes in the past few days (new programs, a system restore, windows registry cleanup, startup configuration changes, etc.) so I have no idea what caused this.

Jun 27, 2008Recently I have noticed that my PC has been loading things really slowly. When I start my computer, there is a black screen with a loading bar at the bottom, which takes atleast five minutes to load. When I launch a game, it takes ages for it to start up and it also takes ages to join a server. I tried reformating, but it didn't help. When I was installing one of my games, I found that it took about 10 times as long to install. And while it was installing, I couldn't do anything else because it slowed everything down. It's like my RAM has been lowered or something. I am guessing it may be a hardware problem.

May 24, 2008I have a lot of folders on my pc so from time to time I go into the folder options and in the folder views sections I click "Reset all folders" The other day I opened up my computer and the panel on the right loaded then disappeared and then the search icon came up (torch and folder thing) and I guess it searches for the hard drives then after a bit of searching it loads them which is really annoying.

Dec 15, 2007When I turn on my PC the POST and the Windows Loading Screen appear on the monitor, but then after that the monitor says there is no input when I'm supposed to be able to see the login screen. The monitor is still working properly as I'm using it right now with it connected to my laptop.The only thing I can think of doing is reformatting and re-installing Windows XP. I've got all my data, because I made a backup on the external HDD the night before, but I'll check it on the laptop to see if it works before I do anything. I was going to do a reformat anyway as I kept getting blue screens when I tried to play games or use Windows Live Messenger's sharing folders, but I'd still like to be able to actually go on the PC one last time to see if I've got everything.

Jun 21, 2006I've been having major problems with my computer and only got it up with boot disks.It randomly restarts itself but when it does, windows doesn't load and I get a screen asking for system disk. I have to manually turn it on and off for it to restart and then it's fine. Mainly restarts when I try doing any kind of scan - anti virus, defragmenter. Then I got a complete stop and blue screen with stop error 0x7B inaccessible boot device. Could only get it back up with the disks.I haven't added new hardware or programs. I haven't been able to virus scan but spybot and vundofix come clear. Originally I thought restarts were from overheating (have cooling problems) but could a stop come from that too?Worried about a boot virus.

Aug 12, 2002I ran into this problem in both WindowsME and XP. While in multiplayer mode in Return to Castle Wolfenstein, I would get excessive page file activity which would get progressively worse. Map load times would constantly increase as each new map was loaded until the system reported WOLF.exe had caused and error and would shutdown the game. The solution for my system is to set both the Desktop AND game color to 16-bit. Also, set both to the same resolution. I like 1280 x 1024, but that may be too high for some systems.After this tweak, my map load times went from >1 min to between 10 and 20 seconds. Right where a P4 1.5 with 256 megs should be.

First of all, let me tell you how this problem started..
I had Windows XP, but wanted to switch to Vista. I've already had Windows Vista come with the computer, but had formatted the hard-drive and installed Windows XP so that my computer would work faster. A few days earlier, I decided to give Windows Vista another shot. I formatted my computer, and installed Vista.
After installing Vista, I could not boot up the computer. I was getting a weird error when when attempting to boot. I thought I might've done something wrong when installing it, so I formatted again, and re-installed Vista. Still, I got the same error. I decided to go back to Windows XP..
Installing Windows XP was not a problem, but..now it seems that any time I try to save a file (any kind of file), be it a small text file created in Notepad or downloading something from the internet.. my computer automatically restarts itself. I had re-installed the Windows XP again because I thought I might've done something to it. At first, I could save files. I installed the video card driver, and the audio driver with no problems.
Than after a while and installing some other software (Windows Live Messenger and Pokerstars), I started to get the same problem.
I don't know how to fix this, please help..
I've looked around the forums, and unchecked the Automatically Restart box when encountering an error. But it hasn't fixed the problem..

System Get BSOD And Restart
Feb 26, 2008Whenever I start up my computer, right after the windows xp display, my toshiba laptop gets the bsod and restarts, repeating the process over and over again. I can't go into safe mode or anything, it'll just do the same thing again. I've written the error code and it is 0x000000ED (0x84340E30, 0xC0000006, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) the problem is that i don't have my recovery disks or anything like that when i got it, but I do have this boot cd called ultimate boot cd which i got from timatebootcd.com, this will allow me to wipe out my hard drive but im just unsure if that will fix the problem.
