the "my computer" window (with the info of the drives on the pc ect) keeps loading up every time i start the computer and logon. I've checked in the startup folder in the start menu and in sceduled taskss and its not in there so i can't understand why it loads up. How can i stop this? Im running xp
I have a lot of folders on my pc so from time to time I go into the folder options and in the folder views sections I click "Reset all folders" The other day I opened up my computer and the panel on the right loaded then disappeared and then the search icon came up (torch and folder thing) and I guess it searches for the hard drives then after a bit of searching it loads them which is really annoying.
I did a restore and all went well except now "My Computer" loads at start-up. I've spent considerable time researching this and have checked numerous settings and tried numerous suggested fixes to no avail.
I noticed some irregular occurences on my system, starting off with “My Computer” opening the same folder at startup (C:program files ero I think) and taking a LOT longer to shutdown/restart than normal (anywhere between 5 & 15mins to shutdown). Occasionally ckdisk would run at boot and after analysing would go through the process of recovering orphaned files (on both C: and F:
At start-up, the windowsXP screen comes up showing that it is loading! It never loads, I usually have to start up in safe mode, and restore to an earlier date, which fixes the problem, until I have to restart! An error report is sent, it says a DLL Driver is not working properly or having problems, but can't specify which one! How do I locate and solve this problem?
I am running Win XP on a HP laptop. When I boot up a program always tries to load but it is one that I don't have or have tried to load. It always asks for the disk which I do not have. It is not located in the start folder, so I do not know where to go to delete it.
i ran some pretty complicated malware-removal programs since my PC (on the office network) was showing loads of trojans and other malware. in the order of running, i ran Malwarebytes, MGTools, Combofix with the windows recovery option. Then, on not having found anything substantial, I uninstalled Combofix with the /u optiom and deleted C:Combofix and later, proceeded to delete C:MGTools. The PC allows me to do a Ctrl+Alt+Del log in, and once I hit Return after entering the password, it just shows me the blue background to the desktop - No items, no menus.Same thing happens in safe mode.
Recently I have noticed that my PC has been loading things really slowly. When I start my computer, there is a black screen with a loading bar at the bottom, which takes atleast five minutes to load. When I launch a game, it takes ages for it to start up and it also takes ages to join a server. I tried reformating, but it didn't help. When I was installing one of my games, I found that it took about 10 times as long to install. And while it was installing, I couldn't do anything else because it slowed everything down. It's like my RAM has been lowered or something. I am guessing it may be a hardware problem.
When i restart my computer system 32 file loads and I have to close it. Screen comes up and shows everything in the system 32 folder. running xp pro sp 2
My computer started to do this wierd thing where it would load at the windows screen, then go to a blue screen, then restart. It tells me its shutting down to prevent memory loss, also tells me these numbers: 0x0000007E (0xC0000006, 0x806A276D, 0xF789E6E8, 0xF789E3E4)Before this started Windows prompted me to download a service pack, It worked fine ulti about two days later. So I start the computer in safe mode and do system restore, that doesent work. I started again and did a virus scan and it wouldent let me. So after trying and trying I finally gave up, I had nothing i wanted on that hard drive, so I decided just to reinstall windows. I pop the CD in there, and it asks me if I want to repair, I tried that. Now it wont even let me run safe mode.I do boot from cd, but when it loads the CD i cant see anything but a blue screen, like it froze or my screen doesent load it.
My computer boots slowly, loads websites slowly and goes slowly from page to page.If Flrman (or any moderator of the sight) solves this, I will be happy to make a donation to keep this site going.Lastly, how do I get to personal profile to log specs into my sig? Can't find link.
I've been having major problems with my computer and only got it up with boot disks. It randomly restarts itself but when it does, windows doesn't load and I get a screen asking for system disk. I have to manually turn it on and off for it to restart and then it's fine. Mainly restarts when I try doing any kind of scan - anti virus, defragmenter. Then I got a complete stop and blue screen with stop error 0x7B inaccessible boot device. Could only get it back up with the disks.I haven't added new hardware or programs. I haven't been able to virus scan but spybot and vundofix come clear. Originally I thought restarts were from overheating (have cooling problems) but could a stop come from that too?Worried about a boot virus.
When I turn on my computer a little window{1&half inches} appears with a red circle with a cross through it and my computer makes those nasty noises. The box just shows the sign and has and ok box and thats it.Can anyone tell me what it means and if I have to do anything.
I am currently running XP Home and every time i start my computer up and login to windows, an all users window opens up, does anyone know how to get rid of this?
i have a dell computer with 2 hard drives and i installed windows xp media center edition on the second hard drive. now it gave me a choice of which one to go to. which was all fine. now being like 2 month later i didnt want that any more. so i formatted the second hardd rive so now i didnt want that choice at start up, but its still there and when i go and pick the one i formatted it says thats its not valid. which is right but what do i do to remove that message?
I did I make a ghost image of my xp system (7 gigs), and I want to use that image to install on 2 other systems.BUT,as you know xp takes an image your system so you can not put ehe hard drive into another ssystem and have it work. I install in on to a different system, and in took great(installed with on problems) but know as soon as I restart I can here it but it goes driectly to the safe mode, last best configuration, start window normal screen.
Small irritating issue here, I have a pc running WindowsXP Pro and every time the system is rebooted I get the System Configuration Utility box come up, the one saying, "You have used the System Config Utility to make changes to the way windows starts.etc." I have seen this before and am use to it as I use the utility to stop alot of apps. The difference this time is that I cannot get the box from appearing after each startup. I have checked the box that says "Don't show this message or launch the system configuration utility when windows starts", but it shows up every time. I have also tried to remove this from the registry.
I have been having an ongoing problem with the dreaded "windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt...". This has been happening for many months now and each time I have tried a different solution. Here is what I have tried in the past
The main problem: I try to open "My Computer" "Control Panel" "Search" that type of stuff from the start menu and it seems like my OS just completely freezes up, the start menu window just freezes and locks onto the background, desktop becomes inactive where I can not click any icons or anything, usualy this happens for a period of time then it just self terminates, screen goes blank to background desktop image for a couple secs then comes back (as if I had not tried to open whatever I had tried to)
My computer is restarting after 3 seconds when i am trying to start the computer. I am coming to the desktop and i can wait for 3 seconds and then suddenly, blue screen with white text and some red is showed to me for just one second. And the the computer restarts.
Have finally reinstalled XP Home and everything is looking good (fingers crossed). The only problem I have is when I boot the pc up and the log on window comes up, I have the message below my name that I have 125 unread messages, I have double checked and I have not got any unread messages at all.
name of pc is not accessible. you might not have permission to use this network resource. contact the administrator of this server to find out if u have xs permissions. Logon failure : the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer
I cannot view in full screen anymore.I created a website that lets a user enter their name and social # and then choose a test in 1 of 3 languages. Once you choose a language, a new browser window opens and the test/information is displayed in this new window.
My computer keeps freezing for no reason at all. It starts up normally, and everything loads just fine. I go to open MSN for example, it opens, but I try to do anything inside of that program like open up a new window and it freezes. I press end now and it doesn't close no matter what, even after hours. I minimize it, go to desktop, try to open a folder and explorer freezes. At this point nothing opens up nothing works and I restart.
I have restarted plenty and its the same story every time. I hadn't done anything different than I usually do with my computer. Just one morning I go to my computer and its been doing this non-stop ever since. When I start the computer in safe mode, this problem doesn't occur so its obviously software, but what could be causing this?
How can i get the window of a program to stay the same size that i resize it to. I have Act and when i create a new email message the window is very small. I do not want to maximize, I just want it to be a little bigger. I resized to the size I want but when i create a new email it defaults back to the smaller size. Is there a trick to get the windows to stick to that size?
why i start My Computer (also happens when My Computer is highlighted in Windows Explorer) and when I clicked on C drive it opened the Search window. So from then on when I want to explore the contents of A (Floppy drive), C (hard drive), D (CD drive) or E (DVD burner) drives I've go to right-click and select Open or Explore from the context menu.
FYI, the order of commands in the context menu are: Search... Explore Open
Around a week ago my computer started to act very funny. When I incerted a cd my properties window would open, when I started a program my microsoft office started to install, then I need to re install drivers.
