Around a week ago my computer started to act very funny. When I incerted a cd my properties window would open, when I started a program my microsoft office started to install, then I need to re install drivers.
I plug a device into the USB port, I get a message that ther was a problem installing the device. I can go to "my computer" and open the device from there.
My computer keeps freezing for no reason at all. It starts up normally, and everything loads just fine. I go to open MSN for example, it opens, but I try to do anything inside of that program like open up a new window and it freezes. I press end now and it doesn't close no matter what, even after hours. I minimize it, go to desktop, try to open a folder and explorer freezes. At this point nothing opens up nothing works and I restart.
I have restarted plenty and its the same story every time. I hadn't done anything different than I usually do with my computer. Just one morning I go to my computer and its been doing this non-stop ever since. When I start the computer in safe mode, this problem doesn't occur so its obviously software, but what could be causing this?
When i open any link with "open in new window" the new window is not full size screen window.Of course i dragged it by mouse many times and that should fix it later. It means it should be opened as it had been dragged, but that's never happened though i dragged it about a hundred time as a full screen size. What is the wrong here?
I just replaced my old Windows 2000 HD with a newly purchased HD and installed Windows XP Pro/SP2 with all the latest updates from MS.When opened this web page by placing cursor on the line and click, the Google page appears briefly on the myWin.doc window but immediately closes and opens a new, different size window for the Google web page. In the old Windows 2000, the Google page remains opened on the same window overlapping the myWin.doc window and no new window is opened.
When I double-click an icon on the desktop, the program doesn't start, instead the properties window for that program opens. I can start the program through the start menu.
Once the program starts, the keyboard works only on the DOS commands. For example, if I try to type a "F", instead of an "F" appearing in the text, the file menu drops down from the top.
Am having a problem with Display Properties in WinXP-2. During the first 5 minutes after boot-up, screen resolution on my desk top is unstable with icon and window sizes changing from large to small and vice-versa. Resetting the Display Properties during this time has no effect. When the system warms up the problem is gone. Can the Monitor itself be the problem, or is it most likely the Video Card? I don't have another monitor to use as a test unit.
when I click on task manager it only shows the running task window. it used to have a list of all startup stuff and a thing where I could look at a graph of cpu usage, but those are not there anymore
I've created several O.E. email folders like "Family", etc. within O.E.I think I've even copied two of them to a CD.I can't get that CD to open even tho the "properties" indicate it contains "X" amount of data, (a lot).Right now I'm stymied trying to open the CD. I messed with it so long that the tray locked on me and I had to shut down and fiddle with it to get it to open.what to do next to try to open the CD?
I have searched to see if this was asked before without any success. Maybe someone has run into this problem before. When I open "my computer" or "control panel" after I close it...it automatically goes into Internet Explorer as a blank page. Most of the time, when I close the IE blank page.it stops responding and I have the control-alt-delete to "end the program"
I went out of town for 2 weeks, came home and my pc is acting really strange. I've been getting tons of pop-ups, to the point my computer freezes and i must restart. Not only that but it randomly reboots itself even when not being used. Also, when i go to delete files now, the file does NOT go into the recycle bin. I looked at the settings and there is no check mark next to the "do not move files into recycle bin". My BF said he had been downloading things so I figured maybe its a virus or something. I ran Nortons... nothing. Ran AVG... nothing. A friend told me it sounded like spyware so he told me to run Adaware & Spybot. Did that, found a ton of stuff. But when i retarted the pc, it wanted to start in "safe mode". I noticed that most of these pop ups are (search miracle ??) Found info that its a trojan, but i dont know. . I dont know what to do, totally computer illiterate.
Whenever I try to open my system properties (right click on My Computer and click on properties, or go to my control panel and click on "system". nothing happens. I tried to fix it through hijackthis, and I also deleted all the virus' on my computer. I am able to open task manager, and all my other properties, I just can't seem to get to my task manager.
If anyone can solve this problem effectively, they need to be congratulated, because I have scoured the internet for hours without success. 1.I cannot open the "Properties " Dialog box in the "Add/Remove Programs" in the Control Panel. In Control Panel, I right-click "Add/Remove Programs" to open the "Properties" Dialog box. But, when I right-click, all that appears is "Open" and "Create Shortcut." The same goes for all the programs in the Control Panel, except a handful may display a 3rd option..."Explore." However, I can click to "Open" any of the programs in the Control Panel. My problem in this case is the "Properties "dialog box is not available. There must be a way to restore this command option. 2. It might be related in some way to Problem # 1. I cannot open "Add/Remove Windows Components" in "Add Remove/Programs." In Control Panel, I click to open "Add/Remove Programs, and click on "Add/Remove Windows Components." It will not open. Instead, this message box appears: "Setup was unable to open information file games.inf. Contact your System Administrator. The specific error code is 0x2 at line 0." I click "OK" and the next message box reads: "The application could not be initialized."
I go to start, control panel, click System, then click on Advanced, then Settings for Performance, uncheck Fade or slide menus into view, Show shadows under menus, Show shadows under mouse pointer, Slide taskbar buttons, Smooth edges of screen fonts, then I click on OK and OK again then re-boot and go back to look at the Performance Options and they're checked again :S anyways way to make then not checked for good and not get auto-checked open startup/re-booting?
I wouild like to know where this resides in either 'Windows' or the registry. When I open 'Advanced' the 'Apply' button is greyed out, so I would like to repair it.
well computer has 2000 pro, been acting really slow lately, opening programs etc, lost of useless programs installed i think, tried adaware and spybot,
I went through the automatic update this afternoon and installed multiple updates. It attempted to install SP3 which failed, every time. I went to shutdown my computer and it did the install update before shutdown and i pressed ok. It went to the logout screen and got stuck at installing update and windows will shutdown after update. Well it never shut down so i shut it down myself. Now my computer is working however EVERYTHING is working very sluggish. Ive attempted to system restore at multiple points and no luck. It all successfully restores and such but is now VERY SLOW
Lately I noticed that there is someting wrong with my computer, I got so many errors problem, that I dont have enough memory or Iexplorer.exe can not open, also there is an icon by the adress bar that replacing the IE icon , Please take a look at the attached pic marque In red.
While trying to add a DOS prompt to the Folder context menu. I seem to have inadvertently broken/deleted something in the registry.Whenever I now open a folder, it always opens in a new window, irrespective of the folder settings (in tools).
I was trying to change the appearance of my icons via "Tools > Folder Options > File Types > Advanced > Change Icon". Next thing I know, every time I try to open a folder, it does a "Search" instead -- so I try to change this by adding a new "Action" (open). Now, what happens, (and which is my problem), is that a new window opens whenever I open a folder. The option for "Open each folder in the same window" is set.
I actually have 2 problems, which both, one of, or neither are the result of me using the DOS emulator for Windows DosBox.So here goes. First problem: With a complete disaccordance with my screen settings, my system tray icons are all coloured in 16 colors instead of 32 bit. Rest of applications and all other windows environment are fine. I fail to make any sense out of it.Second problem: Out of the blue, whenever I am double clicking on a folder, it opens in a new window instead of the old one.
"One fine Morning", kaspersky found around 260 Trojans, and after disinfecting, Whenever I connect to the net, it only lasts for two minutes. Then I have to reboot, and again it continued. So I decided to reformat my PC, and did so. Now I'm stuck with 2 OSes, one in my C drive, and one in My D drive.
I have a Windows XP and Comcast is my provider. Lately (started 2 weeks ago), while in the midst of doing a search or while viewing an internet news video, a BOX POPS UP and asks me if I want to WORK OFFLINE and I get automatically booted to WORKING OFFLINE. I know this is someone told me to CLICK ON "FILE" and there it is, a checkmark in front of WORK OFFLINE.
I noticed today that my computer has been acting kind of strange. It moves a lot slower and locks up a lot. its the hijackthis log file i think see if something isn't right
my computer has been acting up a lot lately, and has gotten really bad in the last few days...everythiing is just working slow, and it has been shutting off spontaneously. I posted the hijackthis log below. Derek, one of your moderators had been helping me out a few months ago with a similar problem, (thanks derek!) and i just posted this log on the end of our 3 page thread...but im not sure if he is still there, or checking old threads, so i decided to also post in a new thread.
It keeps doing strange things. If you click on recent documents, it says they aren't there, but they are. If you click on a file, the program comes up, but the file won't open until you click it again. That's only a couple of examples. I've reloaded office and it didn't help. So I decided to reload XP. It says I have a newer version on my computer that what is on the disk and if I load it, I will lose files and programs. I'm assuming it's a newer version becuase of all the windows updates. I also keep getting SYS32 ? errors, plus run time errors.
When i try to open windows media player, the tab will come up on the bottom but the window wont open. I try to maximize and the tab shoots up to the left off the screen.
