I've created several O.E. email folders like "Family", etc. within O.E.I think I've even copied two of them to a CD.I can't get that CD to open even tho the "properties" indicate it contains "X" amount of data, (a lot).Right now I'm stymied trying to open the CD. I messed with it so long that the tray locked on me and I had to shut down and fiddle with it to get it to open.what to do next to try to open the CD?

1.I cannot open the "Properties " Dialog box in the "Add/Remove Programs" in the Control Panel. In Control Panel, I right-click "Add/Remove Programs" to open the "Properties" Dialog box. But, when I right-click, all that appears is "Open" and "Create Shortcut." The same goes for all the programs in the Control Panel, except a handful may display a 3rd option..."Explore." However, I can click to "Open" any of the programs in the Control Panel. My problem in this case is the "Properties "dialog box is not available. There must be a way to restore this command option.
2. It might be related in some way to Problem # 1. I cannot open "Add/Remove Windows Components" in "Add Remove/Programs." In Control Panel, I click to open "Add/Remove Programs, and click on "Add/Remove Windows Components." It will not open. Instead, this message box appears: "Setup was unable to open information file games.inf. Contact your System Administrator. The specific error code is 0x2 at line 0." I click "OK" and the next message box reads: "The application could not be initialized."
I go to start, control panel, click System, then click on Advanced, then Settings for Performance, uncheck Fade or slide menus into view, Show shadows under menus, Show shadows under mouse pointer, Slide taskbar buttons, Smooth edges of screen fonts, then I click on OK and OK again then re-boot and go back to look at the Performance Options and they're checked again :S anyways way to make then not checked for good and not get auto-checked open startup/re-booting?

In any case, I'm now using a freshly installed version of XP, and everything has been running perfectly for about 2 weeks. Suddenly, this one problem reappears: The File Open / Save As dialog box (aka Windows Common Control / comctl32.dll) takes forever to open (20 seconds to 60 seconds). I just did a chkdsk and defrag, and that did not solve the problem. Also, there are no network drives connected which could be slowing things down. This happens in both MS programs (such as Notepad) and 3rd party programs (such as Firefox).

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy browsers, particularly IE (6) dont always respond when I try to open them. With IE about half the time when I click the icon nothing happens. If a then check task manager IE is indeed running and taking up about 14K of memory, but it never opens. If I try opening it again another instance will just open under task manager and nothing will show up. Now if I end all the IE processes in there and then start IE again it'll be fine. But I need to get this fixed.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently had a blue screen of death nightmare and managed to get the system running again by running chkdsk in Windows recovery console. Everything seems to be fine except for the links to My Documents and My Pictures in the start menu. The links are still there on the top right but neither of them have the folder icon and when I right click to open properties I get a desktop error saying "The properties for this item are not available." I can still access the contents of the folders but want to get my system running properly again.
View 14 Replies View RelatedYou know how you can set the properties of a folder by right clicking and selecting properties and then under the 'Customize' tab you can choose whether the folder is for Music, Photos or Videos, etc...? Well that ability is not available in the same way for the actual D: (second harddrive). Somehow Windows decided to make my entire D drive a Music folder so when I'm in the root folder for D: it doesn't have the option to "Make New Folder". Instead it shows "Play All" and actions for Music type folders. See photos: It needs to be "File and Folder Tasks" not "Music or Pictures Tasks" but how do you change this setting on a folder (or in this case, harddrive) if the Folder Properties do not have a Customize tab??

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen i right-click my desktop and choose properties, the panel that opens doesnt have any tabs.The weird thing, is when i click on the places of the tabs, the tab switches, but they r invisible, and much much more smaller... like, every tab is about 3-5 mm in length, aqnd i have to be accurate, click on something i cant c, with a small size.Another thing, when i change any setting, then press "Apply", the tabs r back normally, but when i reopen the panel, they r gone.

Well i couldnt figure out how they got into that d.p. tab much less delete them but somehow i stumbled across a way to disable so no one could change it. well needless to say can't figure out how to enable it and was wondering how to fix it.
