View 14 RepliesRecently I have noticed that my PC has been loading things really slowly. When I start my computer, there is a black screen with a loading bar at the bottom, which takes atleast five minutes to load. When I launch a game, it takes ages for it to start up and it also takes ages to join a server. I tried reformating, but it didn't help. When I was installing one of my games, I found that it took about 10 times as long to install. And while it was installing, I couldn't do anything else because it slowed everything down. It's like my RAM has been lowered or something. I am guessing it may be a hardware problem.
View 11 Replies View RelatedAfter I open Wordpad it takes 20 seconds before the cursor starts blinking and I can type. This just recently started. Any ideas as to what is causing this? It's so bothersome that I'm now using Notepad whenever possible but I'd much rather use Wordpad. I've scanned with several virus scanners and they all come up clean. Thanks

My RAM now loads slowly upon the bios check and every time the computer starts up, I get a blue screen of death.
I have run a memory check and it appears to be clean. I have run numerous antivirus programs and the computer now appears to be clean. However, I am still getting the blue screen of death. I have tried to attached some minidump files to this post and hope that someone can help to debug them
I have Kaspersky, Registry Mechanic, PerfectDisk, Spybot, SpywareBlaster, SpywareGuard, and Adaware. I run them all periodically, and I also regularly run CheckDisk. On top of this, however, my computer still loads slowly at the desktop (the XP splash screen only takes about 2 seconds to pass; I'm just saying it takes a long time when the PC loads at the desktop, the HDD LED staying on for about 2 minutes). What can I do to fix this?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a lot of folders on my pc so from time to time I go into the folder options and in the folder views sections I click "Reset all folders" The other day I opened up my computer and the panel on the right loaded then disappeared and then the search icon came up (torch and folder thing) and I guess it searches for the hard drives then after a bit of searching it loads them which is really annoying.

Takes ages to boot up, desktop images don't appear for ages, anything I click on doesn't happen for a few minutes. Internet is the same. I was going to look up some info on the menopause, but websites taking so long to load I think I may have been through it by the time I find out about it! AVG says no virus found.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI've got an old msi K7N2G-L board/computer and it's got an old WD1200JB installed and running xp. The problem is that it boots and runs slow as molasses, I'm talking like 10 mins to get it to the log in screen and opening apps takes a good 2-3mins before opening too. If I run a defrag on the drive, things temp speed back up to normal, but as soon as I reboot, it's slow again. If I run the defrag again, everything's cool and speeds go back to normal.So I'm guessing that there's some HD corruption on this drive (at least 5yrs old) and it keeps writing system files to the bad sections of this old HD when it's booting. I've run various fdisks, but none of them reveal any errors. (I should mention that I'm diligently proactive on Antivirus', firewall and Spyware practices, so that's definitely not an option relating to the old drive's slowness.) I've scanned with Avira, Nod32, Kaspersky, Trojansuperantispyware, and checked hijack this entries, there's nothing detected or unusual. Of course, I don't have all of these installed at once.I decided to try and swap the drive out and reinstall xp on this system using a newer WD3200 drive (that I use as a storage drive on one of my other computers.) I run the xp installer, successfully quick format the 3200 partition to NTFS, and everything proceeds fine and fast(keep in mind the 3200 drive was used to store data on my newer comp and was already formatted to ntfs.) Unfortunately, after it successfully finishes the initial install, it gives me the 15 second reboot warning. Okay, I let it reboot, but instead of continuing the install after the reboot, the system hangs on "Verifying DMI Pool Data" and that's it. Nothing happens and I am unable to finish the installation. I tried this like 10 times with 2 different XP home's and I keep getting the same problem. When I go into Bios, the drive is recognized as a 3200/automatic settings? I can't see why xp installs fine on the old WD1200, but not on the WD3200.
It is running really slow, have tried cleaning it,taking out things that are no longer used i have even tried system restore but to no avail it hasn`t worked!! A lot of times when online and am just browsing i get the message Internet Explorer cannot display this page even though i am connected!! very frustrating!! Also if i am on any site like ebay that displays pictures the pictures don`t come up i just get a small red cross that i have to right click and press show picture!
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to figure out what's wrong with my parents' PC. They have WinXP, 512MB RAM, and a 1.2 GHz cpu. They've had a problem wth spyware in the past and have had it cleaned up, but it still boots up extremely slow. Usually it's around ten minutes or so until you can finally do anything on it, and even then, applications seem to take a while to start up and run slow after they do. Is there something I can do to see what's the matter with it?

While in multiplayer mode in Return to Castle Wolfenstein, I would get excessive page file activity which would get progressively worse. Map load times would constantly increase as each new map was loaded until the system reported WOLF.exe had caused and error and would shutdown the game. The solution for my system is to set both the Desktop AND game color to 16-bit. Also, set both to the same resolution. I like 1280 x 1024, but that may be too high for some systems.After this tweak, my map load times went from >1 min to between 10 and 20 seconds. Right where a P4 1.5 with 256 megs should be.

Wifi connects to a known router no problem but actually accessing sites can be a pain. I often have to refresh multiple times in the browser (happens in Firefox, Chrome and Opera) to get it to finally load the page. MSN also struggles to connect, as do the likes of Dropbox and anti-virus. Most web pages / resources do finally load up if I try enough times but it's very, very time-consuming

View 15 Replies View RelatedIgnore the siggie info; the problem is on a separate computer, a Compax laptop. There is 256MB physical memory and 2GB virtual memory. The C: disk has heaps of room on it.
It has Avast AV, Spybot, Adaware and Spyware Blaster and uses the XP firewall. All are up to date and all come up clean when checked. I do a monthly defrag and have Easy Cleaner and empty unnecessary files and surplus registry entries monthly. Despite all this it seems to run abnormally slowly, particularly when bringing up onboard stuff like OE, IE and other programs. Downloading internet sites seem pretty reasonable.
My computer has been running very slowly lately. I have 67 free gigs of space, so I wouldn't think that's the problem. View 5 Replies View RelatedI bought my dell M4300 only in July of this year off the internet!Since then i have had approx 20 BSOD, i have installed off the internet normal registry checks and i seemed to be on top of things. This is a little over my head though!Last week after a BSOD my computer started to run incrediably slowly. On loading, turning off, opening progs and even simple comands. Sometimes it runs smoother (like now) but that it worse case which is approx 80% of the time.Also sometimes on starting up it opens to a blank desktop with no icons or task bar so i have to restart.
