I am operating XP media edition, Dell dimension E510, I have installed and uninstalled and installed Live messenger again and it loads very slowly and then won't respond to the mouse, acually locks up. Is there some patch or driver I am missing?

i have MSN (Windows Live Messenger Plus) and sometimes it doesn't work. i type in my username and password then it logs in. but it doesn't do anything. and then i have to close it with the task manager otherwise i can't do anything on my computer at all. can anyone help me with this? 2: my rightclick doesn't work. i don't think it's the mouse cause i'm very good in reparing mouses. sometimes my computer restarts when i'm in the middle of something, without me actually clicking restart.

It will take sometimes as much as 30 seconds.Once it has displayed the contents of drive C, I can close Windows Explorer and if I go back to it again soon, everything is as fast as I would expect it to be.
When I open programs they are slow to respond. I click on the icon but it seems to take for ever to open up but I don't know why.They use to open up fairly quickly before and nothing has changed.

She is trying to use Win Live Messenger.When she tries to open the messenger, even without the camera on, her system slows down or completely stops. Is Win Live Messenger compatible with XP? Is the old Intel cs630 web cam compatible (even with the drivers for XP)? It does tell her to have service pack 2 or above and she has service pack 3 installed.

I have installed windows live messenger from the free download (the one with the picture of the two women chatting) 8.0..8.1? I tried to reinstall-would not without uninstalling present version.....tried to update but said the version I had was newer than the one I was trying to install (not!)-try uninstalling and reinstall. I can get into hotmail with this ID and can also log into the web messenger with this id. I have been also able to log into windows live on other computers with this ID. It just wont let me in on this one computer! The error id is 81000306. Most repair suggestions assume that NO logins can occur. I've tried so many and still no success. I have been receiving emails from my contacts saying they are getting links to porn sites from my computer as 'instant messages'. I know it isn't me and the program hasn't been used/opened for weeks.Googled around and found this is not uncommon but cannot find any real answers as to how to stop this. The icon appears on my task bar, as if it was running, but I know it is not. I've of late had this same problem with other programs, so I know it's not just Windows Messenger. View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been having major problems with my computer and only got it up with boot disks.It randomly restarts itself but when it does, windows doesn't load and I get a screen asking for system disk. I have to manually turn it on and off for it to restart and then it's fine. Mainly restarts when I try doing any kind of scan - anti virus, defragmenter. Then I got a complete stop and blue screen with stop error 0x7B inaccessible boot device. Could only get it back up with the disks.I haven't added new hardware or programs. I haven't been able to virus scan but spybot and vundofix come clear. Originally I thought restarts were from overheating (have cooling problems) but could a stop come from that too?Worried about a boot virus.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI know I am behind the times, but I just now upgraded from SP1 to SP2 due to some of the anti-virus and firewall software upgrades only being compatible with SP2. SP1 ran great. After upgrading, tweaking the services, and a few other things my computer is still lagging. It takes 4 times longer to boot up w/SP2 and even after that is slow to respond for at least 5 minutes. I have always tweaked my pcs to boot faster and not have unnecessary things running. I've done everything I did in the past and still SP2 is slow.This basically sucks. It would be so great if MS didn't have a monopoly on OS's.I have a couple of older pcs that I run a couple versions of Linux on and they run fast and flawless
View 7 Replies View RelatedSystem recently began taking a long time to load, and to execute commands.. Also some unusual responses. Slow to load browsers. Whether I.E., Chrome or Firefox. When logged onto the internet, responses, page changes and other commands are very fast, and links connect with very little delay. The problem is with trying to start up and log on, and do other work on the system. Sloooow. Also I have Skype 4.0 installed, and wanted to Uninstall it in order to add the latest Skype. However when I try to uninstall via Add/Remove in Control Panel I get an Error message " Network Error occurred while trying to read file C:\WindowsinstallerSkype.msi" I get this even if I try to install the new Skype over the old (4.0). What seems to be the problem?

If I open excel from the desktop, it opens immediately. Also, if I click on start/programs and then right click on one, it takes 20-30 seconds to get the properties screen to pop open.

Related / unrelated - I have seen CPU/memory max out as well - though not always. I have a 1.5 GB of RAM, and have seen this when not heck of a lot is going on. I am unsure if it is a virus issue or is it something that has to do with windows explorer issues, which I have seen a few threads on on the net.
I have a pc running XP Pro and suddenly it became extremely slow.It takes a couple of minutes to boot up.Everything responds slow on the pc.I ran adaware , spybot and cwshredder.these programmes did find a couple of things but still the pc is very slow.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'd appreciate some help with this and have seen similar threads, but am just not competent to sort this out on my own.Windows Explorer is no longer reading my camera card. It either fails to respond or just loads the thumbnail icon and then seems to stop, although a couple of times I left it for around 30minutes and most of the 70 thumbnails had opened, so I'm not completely sure if it's stopped or if it's just so slow the computer thinks it's not working.It will open them once they are in a folder on the PC and I can transfer them using the Nikon software otherwise I'd have a useless camera!I'm also getting quite a few "Internet Explorer is not responding messages", and after downloading version 8 went back to version 7 but it's still happening.
When I attempt to open a file or to get a directory listing in Windows explorer I have a delay of about 12 seconds. Before I get a listing (within a program) I see where it says at the top "Open - not responding". After eventually getting the listing I will be able to obtain another listing quite quickly while in that program. If I exit the program and go to another as from Word to Excel I again experience the slow listing and the "Open - not responding" before the listing shows. Long ago I had a similar problem where the listing took an even 30 seconds to appear and it was determined to be a virus. Nothing shows in any of my virus scans.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a lot of folders on my pc so from time to time I go into the folder options and in the folder views sections I click "Reset all folders" The other day I opened up my computer and the panel on the right loaded then disappeared and then the search icon came up (torch and folder thing) and I guess it searches for the hard drives then after a bit of searching it loads them which is really annoying.

I can open Run and Windows Media Player and MSN but My Computer doesn't open, not does Internet Explorer.I can right-click on them, but when it comes to opening/launching, nothing happens. This is a problem on my administrator account but not on the account that is Limited.
