May 25, 2010I use XP Home and would like a simple batch file to automatically restart a program after 5 minutes, but I don't have any knowledge in this.

Aug 9, 2007Is it possible for someone to create a batch file for me that will enable the num-lock key to enable at bootup of XP Pro, I found out how to do it in the registry, but its something that ive been looking for now for quite sometime. I hate having to install misc. progys to do stupid things like this too.

Sep 1, 2009I have gone through the above thread. I have a specific requirement to count the files in a folder and set it's count value to a variable in the batch script. I will then use this value later in the program. e.g. for /f "delims=" %a in ('dir /a-D /B /s "C:codedepotinstallData File DistribProductName" |find /c /v ""') do Set tempVar=%a I am having trouble with the space in the path. I tried using escape with slash '' but didn't help. Can anyone correct my above command and get the count in the tempVar?

Unfortunately, I've made a LOT of changes in the past few days (new programs, a system restore, windows registry cleanup, startup configuration changes, etc.) so I have no idea what caused this.

Apr 28, 2007I currently have XP make me password login when I turn it on, but I'm just wondering, is there a way to have it automatically log me in, then go to the switch user screen? I ask this because it usually takes mine a while to load up to the logon screen, but then I have to go back and login before it works properly, so yeah, I'd just like to get it to log me in, load up, then got to the switch user screen so that I can go watch TV for half an hour, come back, and be ready to go.

Aug 27, 2005Initially, it just seemed like totally random and spontaneous reboots. But after I reconfigured XP to not autorestart on crashes, now I'm getting BSODs. IRQL_NOT_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL

This seems to happen at 2 times.
1) Completely random, with no obvious ties to any activity.
2) When a USB device is disconnected. Windows acknowledges the removal with a bong, but then BSOD crashes seconds later.
Both are extremely intermittent and it may be a week or more in between crashes. I can sit there and insert and remove USB devices (a Creative USB MP3 Player) until I'm blue in the face and never see a crash. This is a home built PC with an ASUS motherboard running XP Home. The system has been reliable for many years but just started this in the last several months. I'm current on all service packs, updates, and whatever else I've been able to find.

There are two specials files (lunch.pps and dinner.pps)When this system reboots, i want a batch file to determine which powerpoint file to open based on what time it is.ON BOOTUP: For instance, if it's anywhere between 11am and 3pm, open the lunch file. If its any other time, run the dinner.pps file. Make sense?
Im already running a scheduled tasks application that shuts down one and starts up the other based on what time. This works very well. Problem is, i frequently Remote Desktop into this machine and make changes. Once those changes are made, i have to reboot the system. I then want this batch file to start the appropriate presentation since the scheduled task application only works when it sees 11am or 3pm (as in the example above)I figured since you can determine time and date within a batch file, can't you do an if /then/else type script within a batch? (if its *this time* then load THIS application)

May 11, 2007From time to time I help people fix their computers. And on occasion I have messed up my computer in the process. No problem. I would just reformat. I read about a program called Nlite, where I could slipstream all my programs + windows xp + sp2 and, most important, all the windows critical updates to date. It worked great. It cut down my time from start to finish, from about 7 hours to a little less than 2 hours. But in the process of learning how to do this, and before I found out that there was such a thing as a virtual pc, I of course had to reformat a number of times.
