My computer runs great. Now on restart I get internet explorer loading each time automatically. Don't know why. Explorer shows a website that wants me to buy software to help fix computer problems--imagine that.

Everytime I start Windows XP, it attempts to reinstall Internet Explorer 6, which I already have and is working fine. How can I make this stop trying to install this everytime I boot up?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've got windows xp internet explorer 7 and it keeps coming up with something called "certificate errors" and won't let me access the site. It usually hasn't been a massive problem except I've just bought an ipod, and the certificate errors won't let me download itunes! So I really need to disable the certificate errors. Following instructions, I've got as far as disabling it, but it says that I need to restart internet explorer for it to take into effect. How do I restart internet explorer? Or is there another easier way to disable the certificate errors?

Once back on, the firewall is off again?I have ZoneAlarm and have been running the present configuration for a couple years now. It just started doing this recently and I am at a loss for the reason. View 14 Replies View RelatedWhenever I start my PC, 90 percent of the time it loads to the desktop but explorer.exe wont run. If I start Task Manager and run it from there, for the first few minutes an error pops up saying I don't have admin rights to access the file, but then later on it runs ok. But then, when it does load, only the volume control will load on the start bar, and if I try to access anything, (internet etc.) it doesnt work at all. Also my Folder Options in the Control Panel have disappeared, and Ive tried many ways to get it back, such as running gpedit, and it also wont let me access the registry, saying I dont have admin rights, even though I am the only user of the PC, and I have full admin rights. Sometimes it won't load at all, just booting to a black screen with the pointer stuck in the middle, and I have to restart it to get it to do anything.
If I run the computer in safe mode, the explorer bar has a 50/50 chance of loading on startup, and I still have the same problems. I ran Webroot Spy Sweeper, which picked a few spy cookies and whatnot, but nothing significant, but it seems to be getting progressively worse every time I restart the PC.The PC also refuses to boot the XP startup disk, cos I wanted to Repair Windows to see if that would fix the problem, and also trying to reset to default with BIOS and using MSCONFIG didnt work either. Im pretty sure Im forgetting something else that was quite important, but I cant remember what it is.... also System Restore has been wiped clean, so I cant restore my PC to an earlier time... I tried running a Virus scan using Virgin Media antivirus and Webroot Spy Sweeper Deep System Scan, but no luck, both just picked up minore spy cookie and stuff
I notice i have had this problem for the past 2 weeks and today by pc restarted itself out of no where.Can anyone explain why cause i ran virus scans and i'm pretty sure i'm clean.
View 14 Replies View Relatedi ran some pretty complicated malware-removal programs since my PC (on the office network) was showing loads of trojans and other malware. in the order of running, i ran Malwarebytes, MGTools, Combofix with the windows recovery option. Then, on not having found anything substantial, I uninstalled Combofix with the /u optiom and deleted C:Combofix and later, proceeded to delete C:MGTools.The PC allows me to do a Ctrl+Alt+Del log in, and once I hit Return after entering the password, it just shows me the blue background to the desktop - No items, no menus.Same thing happens in safe mode.

I then set my pc to boot into XP by default as I didn't like Vista.Everything was fine until yesterday. Now when I boot into XP Explorer and about 2/3 of my services don't load. I can start them manually just fine, but they no longer auto run.

The windows explorer address bar is now 'refreshing' every 5 seconds or so.
Very unhelpful, as it wipes out the network location you are trying to enter.
It reverts to the previous address, and auto selects the full text.
When I open up Explorer it automatically dials my ISP and when I close it I get asked if I want to sign off of my ISP. This is a great feature. When I open Firefox it dials but it doesn't ask me to sign off when I close it. Is there a way to make it do the same thing for Firefox?
