Explorer Window Opens Automatically At Start Up
Aug 3, 2005Each time I boot, the Windows Explorer window appears on my desktop. I can't figure out what is causing this. It's not in my Start up folder.

Aug 8, 2005I am running internet explorer in windows xp---When I right click on a web site in my favorites and choose desk top short cut, I then go to the desk top and click on the icon for that site and it opens a window to the printer as if to print it instead of going to that web site. I have run all the adware, spyware, and viruse programs I have, but to no avail.

Aug 2, 2007So i just got home from camping and a window is popped up on internet explorer saying things about "anti virus" well there was a red shield at the bottom of my browser where you can click to see what time it is and what day and such well i had never seen it there befor and it also turns blue, when i click on it it goes to this website "http://asecurityservice.com/" tryed blocking it and eveything but i cannot get rid of it also when rebooting it changed from the sheild to a yelloy triangle with a black ! in it and it flashes and will pop up a not about downloading an antivirus. i use firefox as my main browser and it seems ok but when i click the explorer one it goes to that website again???even after i set the default homepage to say google! here is a full hijack log

Feb 23, 2010On Internet Explorer every time I right click anywhere, on any webpage, other than the top menu bar or a flash object, a new IE8 window will pop up and load my home page. Which is becoming a real annoyance. All other browsers work fine. I have ran virus scans, removed at reinstalled IE8 even formatted my HDD. Which sorted the problem at first, but now after windows updates the problems is back.

Dec 18, 2007This started happening a few months ago, & I have just been living with it, but now I'm very tired of it. When ever I boot, or restart my computer, the startup folder automatically opens on the desktop. Can someone tell me how to stop this from happening? Also recently, whenever I open a Microsoft program, Word, Excell Office Project tries to load. I have to cluck Cancel several times to stop it.

May 25, 2007i have XP Pro Basically I was messing around in file types because my folder icons were botched. Ran TweakUI to fix folder icons, but here is what happened. double clicking a folder opened the search window. So i went into file types and created a new action, and pointed it at explorer.exe from my windows directory. Now, the problem is, when i double click it opens the folder in a new window, instead of the same.
when I am in the advanced settings of file types (tools-folder options-file types) the Edit and Remove buttons will not light up, but i am the administrator. Restore defaults doesn't work.
Is there a backend way to fix this anyone knows of, short of reformatting ?? system restore to a previous date did nothing.
My Computer Opens 'search' Window On Click
Jun 6, 2005why i start My Computer (also happens when My Computer is highlighted in Windows Explorer) and when I clicked on C drive it opened the Search window. So from then on when I want to explore the contents of A (Floppy drive), C (hard drive), D (CD drive) or E (DVD burner) drives I've go to right-click and select Open or Explore from the context menu.
FYI, the order of commands in the context menu are:
Search...
Explore
Open

Sep 28, 2005When I open my computer and double click the c:, an install shield wizard opens and wants me to install the intel extreme graphics driver. I am not able to access the C drive. However, when I right click on c: I can choose open or explore and I can browse the drive. So this is only happening when I left click.
All recent virus/spyware scans are clean (AVG, panda, trendmicro, spybot, adaware, spyware doctor, and ewido). Below is a recent HJT log, although I didn't see anything which would be causing this.
PC Opens The Same Program Over And Over Again With Single Double Click
Jan 7, 2006Every once in a while my pc acts really nutty. What happens is that I'll go to open a program (lets say Nero Burning Rom) and on a single double click Nero will open up 70+ times. Furthermore, it makes mostly all of my programs act up when this starts happening. For example, when I click the arrow in the system tray it expands and collapses tons of times before it stops. If I open Firefox my homepage sort of half loads over and over and won't stop. MSN Messenger opens up then freaks out when I put the pointer in its window (this happens in the above Firefox example too). All of this activity makes the pc unusable until it all stops. Speaking of when it stops, it does't stop with a restart, it just stops mid session. I thought it could be a mouse problem because the trackball I use is pretty ancient and I figured it just might have just petered out finally, but then I tried another mouse that I found laying around and it did the same things. One other thing I've noticed it (the trackball) doing is when it's not being used the pointer slowly crawls towards the top of the screen. I've run my anti-virus and all three of my spyware programs and none of them find anything out of the ordinary. So what could be causing this? I'm starting to think it might be my mouse port, but how would I find this out?

I find that GPEDIT effects ALL user rights, so when I want to prevent my app user from being able to right-click on the desktop (for example), if I got to GPEDIT > USER CONFIG > ADMIN TEMPLATES , anything I do there dorks up my admin user as well.These machines will not connect to a domain controller so they have to be locally administered.

Jun 1, 2006I had some spyware/viruses/malware recently, and they've now all been cleaned up with internet security software, but I still have a lingering problem: when I double-click on a folder, instead of the folder opening, a new window opens and it's a search window, with the destination folder (ie the one I just clicked on) as a value in the parameter "look in:". The only way I can just open a folder is to right-click, and select open.
When I right-click on a folder, the menu reads: "Search (bolded) / Open / Explore" etc. which doesn't seem right.
I tried to fix it by changing some options in Tools -> Folder Options -> File Types. There are two kinds of folder, "File Folder" and "Folder". In the advanced options for "File Folder", the only action it lists is "find"... I'm not sure if this is where the problem is or if this is normal? I tried to add a new action, but it wanted me to select an application to perform the action and I have no idea... In the advanced options for "Folder", it looks to be normal, it lists the actions "explore" and "open" (bolded).
The only folder that seems unaffected by this problem is the "Documents" folder on the desktop, and any shortcuts that point to folders.
