Click On Device Manager It Opens A Blank Box With No Devices
Dec 8, 2006
I have lost my device manager when i click on device manager it opens a blank box with no devices in it help plz i also after finding this i decided to try and format xp home i get the message saying the windows vertion i have is newer than the vertion on disc.
I have XP and when I open my device manager, no devices are shown at all. This is not corrected by the usual microsoft help (i.e set services plug/play to automatic).
I am not seeing the devices in my device manager window.....ever since I did the upgrade to svce pck 3, nothing is shown in the device manager window.....any sugesstions on how to correct this?
I changed the system boot in "MsConfig" and now my sound, scanner and my printer don't work. I looked at the device manager to see if there was an error with the soundcard or something, but all devices have vanished from the device manager. I just tried to connect my ipod to the computer, and it said the software can't communicate with the ipod.
I had to reinstall windows XP because my OS would not load and I got all the drivers reinstalled, diagnostic ran smooth and everything came up working ok etc but my device manager won't recognize anything! The compy says my audio mixers are not there, my USB devices are not working, hardware wizard is not responding, microsoft updates are not working, Dell's driver downloads are calling out for something that isn't there and I really need this fixed ASAP so I can get to my external HD.
All of a sudden, the imaging devices attached to a computer with Windows XP Pro SP2 are showing up under the Unknown category in the Device Manager. The devices are listed correctly by their names under Unknown, but the software won't communicate with them.Windows can see the devices, but it does not know what type of devices they are. It is only the imaging devices. One is a Canon 4200F Canoscan scanner, the other is a Sony Camcorder, and the third is a hardware capture device (Pinnacle Moviebox). The Canon scanner is a USB 2.0 device, while the other two are attached through firewire ports.
Everest shows 3 unknown devices but device manager doesnt?my soundcard dissapeard today, i can still pick it up using "Unknown Devices" and EVEREST although when i try to run audigy 2 drivers, it`s telling me there are no supported devices in the system, anyone know how i can force the REAL device manager to see these devices?it seems only everest and unknown devices is picking up my soundcard, it also says AUDIGY from CREATIVE. it just is not appearing in device manager for some reason so i am unable to actually install it.
I have WinXP Home SP2 but am not sure when this started and why, but there is absolutly nothing in the Device Manager listing its BLANK. I have read this link, and I do have Plug and Play selected for auto and it is active. I even de-selected rebooted, then selected again and re-booted but to no avail.
There are a few things that contributed to the leadup to me losing my Device Manager and sound. First, about 3 weeks ago, I bought 2 sticks of Mushkin EM3200 DDR RAM (two 1GB sticks; 2GB total). Installed it, and it disagreed with my board in a big way (apparently it was the voltages or timings). I managed to get as far as "Verifying DMI Pool Data..." before I got one of two error messages: "NTLDR is missing. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart." or "Windows failed to load because the System32 folder is corrupt or missing." In each case, I popped in my Windows XP disc and fixed the boot record from the recovery console (I did not restore the MBR), and it booted right in.
At the time, Windows booted up just fine, but lately I've been having some funky problems. I've got one SATA drive (partitioned into two) which is my boot drive and one IDE drive that I just use for storage. Sometimes, with my IDE drive plugged in on boot, I can't get Windows to load by any means. Sometimes it boots just fine. When it boots fine, and I go into "My Computer" (either via the Start Menu or the icon on the desktop) it takes about 20-30 seconds to actually display anything (I get either the flashlight-over-folder animation or it just doesn't load). With my IDE drive unplugged, I get no such issues.
As well, the first couple of times I restored the boot record, I had no issues with sound at all. Then suddenly Windows started saying I had no sound device (my volume icon had disappeared, and the "Sounds and Audio Devices" menu in the Control Panel showed no output/playback device) although I clearly do have one. The weird thing is, I still got sound. Then I updated my sound card drivers (it's onboard sound; Realtek AC'97, pretty standard fare) and lost sound completely. All I get now is motherboard/PC speaker beeps. So I attempted to check the Device Manager to see if maybe there was just a device conflict. I say attempted because my Device Manager was completely blank. And I mean completely. All it showed was the title bar, menu buttons, and a white page. Nothing else. Zip.Just ran out to work and got an Audigy for $30 thinking it may just have been my onboard sound kicking the bucket. Installed it, booted up and tried to install the drivers. The driver installation program detected no Audigy in my machine (and I thought it wouldn't because Windows didn't pop up with the little "Found New Hardware Wizard" when I booted).
I have installed a targus 7 port powered USB HUB on my computer. Device manager reports unknown device. I have deleted and it restalled the drived after the system rebooted. Device manager still saying unknown device. Their is not driver needed according to the manufacture. When the PC is booting it does see the IPOD mini and the Flash drive. But once the PC is fully out and login and I look a the device manager is still reporting unlnown device error (code 10).
I had some trouble last night and today with getting rid of a virus. Now that it is gone, I am having sound problems (maybe related, maybe not). This morning, when I opened iTunes I got a message that there was no audio device detected. After trying several things, I rebooted. Magically, I could play music again. However, a short while later, I again got an error message telling me that there is no audio device found, even though it shows up in Device Manager as working properly. The problem goes away for a short time after I reboot, but returns. It is Realtek AC 97. Why won't my computer keep recognizing it? (It tried going to Realtek's site to download an update. It has updates for Windows 98, 95, etc., but not for XP. Or at least I couldn't find it.)
Running Windows XP on Emachines ET1161-07. Installed all drivers that I could find, since EMachines does not represent XP. Tried Realtek audio and HD audio, tried Intel, didn't work. Tried NVidia, as it has an NVidia motherboard. Spent too much time on this computer. Can anyone lend a hand? I know it's got something to do with Audio, as there's no audio device detected in Sounds, under Control Panel.Customer has to have computer today.
I gotta a XP Home SP2 Machine was running fine then on boot up sound device not found. went to device mng and no items displayed. System restore had been didabled and Norton disabled as well. Done a spyware scan pull nout so did virus
My friend's computer monitor loses signal about 75% through the "Installing Devices" phase of the Windows XP Professional installation. Article 311839 in Microsoft's support site has a solution, but it didn't really work at all.
Is there any device that I could download that could help me find my drivers for hardware in devices manager, I would also like to copy these drivers to a folder for future installations.
I had this problem last time when I fresh installed Windows XP Pro on my computer. I don't know the time, but it happens at least 30 days after I reinstall the OS and software. Today, my computer prompted me to install drivers for a PCI Input Device, but I haven't installed any new hardware for months. Basically, I haven't touched the inside of my computer for that long. So why is Device Manager prompting me to install this mystery device? Hardware ID shows that it is from vendor 1102, which is Creative, and I have an Audigy 1. Also, my FireWire port is Code 10, the device cannot start. So I'm thinking the mystery device is the same firewire port. But why show up as a separate device? I tried removing the devices and restarting the computer, but they return to haunt me again. The device properties for the PCI Input Device says PCI SLOT 7, AND I DONT HAVE A 7th slot! Can someone help me, please? Device manager shows my 1394 Net Adapter with a yellow exclamation, and it has code 10, device cannot start. There is an unknown device, the PCI Input Device, which doesn't allow me to install any drivers for it, yet it has the creative Vendor ID 1102. It shows itself as being PCI Slot 7.
I have a feeling that this is simply a case of some registry settings which need adding/modifying/deleting but exactly which ones and what values I do not know. No, I haven't tried re-installing XP.
Volume on my laptop does not work. When I click on my volume control I get the infamous error message. Full message: There are no active mixer devices available. To install mixer devices, go to Control Panel, click Printers and Other Hardware, and then click Add Hardware. This program will now close." I've tried numerous searches on google/forums but nothing seems to work. I tried the services.msc, Ive tried the "machine.inf" copy/paste method. Tried to reset the BIOS to default in the setup menu (not sure if i really did this right but.). Nothing seems to be working. The sound worked before I had to delete the partition and reinstall Windows XP. Had a virus or something so I had to delete the partition and reinstall like I said. It's Windows XP Professional.I got the laptop from Cyberpowerpc.com. Phoenix brand motherboard (i think that is a brand, Everest said the BIOS type was phoenix anyway, it says the actual motherboard name is Unkown). When I bought it, the sound said: Built-In AC97 Sound Card if that helps. I was pretty sure I had "Realtek AC 97" Audio driver before the crash but I'm not 100% sure on that.
A friend of mine has a 4 yr. old PC running XP Home with 128Mb of memory. He's had problems with programs aborting recently. I tried to run Device Manager to make sure there were no issues there. It briefly brought the screen up, then it went away. The same thing happened to Task Manager when I tried to see what was running and how much memory was being used. Anybody ever see this behavior before? I might try installing a memory cleaner pgm (ie. Memturbo), but I'm not sure I would even be able to get it to run. The hard drive amd memory seem to have no errors.
Last night I installed ATiTool 0.24 over my 0.25 version (stupidly). I also did a BIOS update and installed Cat6.3 and then AVIVO converter. When I rebooted, I had this new PCI device requiring a driver, but it's an unknown device and doing an auto update helped me.I can't get rid of this pesky PCI device (tried uninstalling but Windows detects it again after restart/boot-up). All my stuff is working, so I don't know where this critter came from?
I have a huge problem with two unknown devices in my "Device Manager" after formating and reinstalling fresh copy of Win Xp Pro.In my "Device Manager" there is two lines with Unknown devices.
I'm using XP SP3 Home Gateway desktop My device Manager has nothing in it. I don't know when it quit showing. I have checked Bios plug&Play, and it is set in Auto. I am also getting an error stating my recovery D: is running out of disk space.
My computer cannot detect any cd's in my DVD or CD drive. When I open Device Manager the CD/DVD devices have an error. This error: Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41) Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device. When I run the DriverScan it simply doesn't even have an entry for the drives, probably since it thinks it doesn't even exist at the moment.
Anyone know how I can rename a device in device manager, (or the registry), so it doesn't show #2 after the device.I used the leadtek driver uninstall tool last night. And it removed the drivers I had for this Leadtek Deluxe tuner alright.BUT it also renamed my onboard Gigabit LAN (onboard) to #2 my scanner to #2, and removed my Nvidia drivers for the video card. And reverted the videocard drivers to MS Nvidia drivers.I managed to fix the scanner entry by uninstalling the drivers, then rebooting and reinstalling the drivers. And I managed to fix the videocard drivers, by reinstalling the Nvidia drivers. So, yup, anyone have any idea how I can change the board LAN, so it doesnt have #2 after it? sing XP Pro SP2
In device manager I have a Creative Audigy Audio Processor (WDM) which is showing as working ok and the device is enable. However under Sounds & Audio Device Properties this is missing from both the Sound Playback and Sound Recording - when the drop down tab is selected nothing is shown.Any ideas how I get this back so I can select as the Default Device,
I am new to this website. I am intersted to see what kind of valuable feedback I can get for my current computer issue. I have 2 users set up on my Laptop PC. On my desktop, all programs function fine. On the other desktop for the other user, when a program is launched, it opens up as a blank program window. IE opens fine, but other programs such as McAfee and other certain Microsoft Office programs will open but not fully execute.
On Internet Explorer every time I right click anywhere, on any webpage, other than the top menu bar or a flash object, a new IE8 window will pop up and load my home page. Which is becoming a real annoyance. All other browsers work fine. I have ran virus scans, removed at reinstalled IE8 even formatted my HDD. Which sorted the problem at first, but now after windows updates the problems is back.
Having displayed the 'Welcome' screen during power-up, my computer (Dell D0926 Dimension 2400) then proceeds to my desktop (the picture that I chose, rather than, for example, a black or blue blank screen). There are a few egg timers, and the arrow is present, but no icons appear whatsoever.
I don't know why, but every time I double click on a HDD, a device with removable storage or a CD drive, the search window comes up. Which means I have to right click it and go to 'Open
