My friend's computer monitor loses signal about 75% through the "Installing Devices" phase of the Windows XP Professional installation. Article 311839 in Microsoft's support site has a solution, but it didn't really work at all.

View 14 Replies View RelatedMy computer is having some trouble. When I try to boot it up I get nothing from the monitor(LCD). This happened a while back and all I did was took the power cord to the monitor out, and plugged it back in. It worked like that for 2 months or so. Today he calls me and he is having the same problem. So again I unplugged the cord and replugged it back in. I got signal but it immediately went blank again. It will only work for 1 second. What could be causing this do you think? I hooked up two other monitors to his computer also. One of them (older one not sure if it works 100%, wouldn't see why not) would BOOT up fine, then once you got to login it would go black, and do exactly what the LCD did. I could unplug it plug it back in for some video. Then I brought over my monitor. It works 100% and I didn't get any video at all with it. I tried other power cords/outlets etc. What do you guys think it could be?
It appears that the power is not coming on on my desktop.The light on the monitor goes orange then green, but the cpu power does not come on on many tries.Even tried moving the plugs,no power on the cpu,monitor blank.

View 6 Replies View RelatedIt gets to "Installing Devices" then goes to BSOD with: IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL STOP 0x0000000A (0x00000010, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x8051AA58) I've swapped out the video card and tweaked every setting I can find in BIOS to no avail. There are no BIOS settings for cache or shadowing. Does anyone have any thought as to why XP won't load but 7 will?
View 10 Replies View Relatedmy friend give me his Gateway 610XL all in one PC to fix a few problems. one of them was internet explorer not showing up when called for, that was an easy fix; however, this next problem has to do with USB devices and it's giving me a bit of trouble. basically, any USB devices i connect to it, windows doesn't auto install or even try to auto install the drivers. no matter what i connect to it (mouse, keyboard, thumb drive). i can go into device manager and install the drivers manually just fine but i would like to fix the auto install feature for my friend cuz he's not that good with computers. i checked and made sure the following services are enabled:
plug and play
upnp
user mode driver framework
shell hardware detection
the problem persist even in safe mode. one thing i noticed is when i go to control panel and then hit add hardware, i get a message that says this: "you can only install one device at a time. when the other device installation is complete, try this wizard again" (some where along those lines). i get that message even with nothing connected to the USB ports. i'm guessing what ever this "other device" is, it hanging up pnp so how do i go about aborting that installation? i don't really see anything in the task bar that even suggest a driver installation is on the way. this is running Windows XP Media Center Edition SP3 by that way.
My system just shuts down while trying to install xp home (sp1 ver). And I am forced to shut down during the install. The install will get to the installing devices graphical user interface and quit at the 34 minute mark.Then upon reboot it will check the disk and other parameters and they check out ok, so... hence xp will resume the setup automatically and the process just repeats itself over and over and stall out at the 34 minute mark. Is there a reason for this?
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhenever I try to repair Windows, everything goes fine up till this point, where half-way through the "Installing devices" stage... nothing seems to happen, no progress. The setup doesn't hang or freeze, it seems to be working just fine except that nothing happens, it does not complete this part, just sits there. I've even left it for an hour and even then no progress.However, if I commence a new setup, a new installation, this problem does not occur and the setup completes successfully.

So I plugged my monitor back into my newer computer and all it does is show the Sony logo and then the Windows XP Loading screen, then after that the monitor gos blank and the green light blinks next to the power button.

The CD-Rom drives were deleted from the virus,so I had to transfer the xp cd files from one computer to the infected computer through a direct transfer cable During the xp installation, the computer hung and showed a black screen when installing the devices. Now everytime I start the computer up it goes straght into setup and shows a black screen.The CD-Rom drives do not work pressing delete during start-up will not access the BIOS.It seems I cannot flash the BIOS.How do I cancel the xp setup?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI start computer and during windows xp logo booting screens the monitor will go blank (orange light by monitor power button) and keyboards lights will turn off numlock caps and scroll lock will not turn them back on and the little light on my wireless usb mouse reciever goes out. however the pc front lights disc tray and network lights remain on and fan is still going. but sometimes i do manage to get passed the startup (10% of the time) and into windows for about 10-30 minutes before the same blank screen freeze up happens. i know its not totally a videocard monitor issue because not just the monitor goes blank everything stops responding......

3. Device manager recognizes 3 monitors i.e. default, flat screen and plug and play
4. FYI device manager shows display adapter Radeon 1GP 345M
5. Went to display settings established 1 and 2 monitor & extended desk top
6. Advance+monitor depending on selection 1 or 2 monitor displays either default and flat screen or default and plug and play.
Initially 4 weeks ago when I started this process I did get a brief display on flat screen which leads me to believe something I am not doing. Something else I found strange and may be as it should be whether 1 or 2 is highlighted and identity is pressed only the large 1 is displayed. I have tried fn then f4 at hp's advice as well as fn then f5 which is the actual function key on this unit.
When I did a fresh install of XP Pro, my add or remove programs list is blank. Nothing ever shows up on it. Is there a fix for this?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI ran a new tweak called Process Monitor, and the last statement on the "process tree" was "rundll32.exe" I looked on the internet and it said that this could possibly be a spyware tracking me, but it has a microsoft name applied to it. Can you tell me if I should delete this or not? It has 500 or so records (dll's I'm assuming) attached to it. When I run CCleaner, my firewall (kerio) asks that rundll32.exe wants to execute.
View 13 Replies View RelatedOkay, I bought a new mobo and set up a clone pc. ASrock combo mobo (the one with socket 754 and 939). I have everything set up right, POST confirms. Everything is good, POST works fine. I've got a formatted hard drive, no OS on it. I'm trying to install Windows to that OS, but it will not install. It goes to a blank screen after detecting my hardware settings. Wasn't sure if this topic should have gone in OS or hardware, so i put it here. I've tried 2 windows CDs and a Linux DVD on 2 different disc drives, and still nothing works past the "setup is detecting your hardware settings" screen. I have no idea what to do.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have lost my sound. The sounds icon in control panel say " no audio devices" AND the sound tab shows all listed devices as working porperly. I have deleted an sound object that allows it in device manager and allowed XP to load wht it will. I still have no sound. I checked for sound services in services and they are started as well.If I load Knoppix and test, my sounds work so I am assumming it is not a hardware problem.

View 2 Replies View Relatedi got this very old and cheap brandless webcam, it came with a mini-cdr which holds the drivers, when i place the mini-cdr into my dvd drive, it made a load noise, then the installer runs and i got the error shown in the top of the pic, as i continue the installation i got another error, shown at the botton of the pic, now i know maybe the disc is corroupt or something, so i decided to use device manager to install the drivers manually.
when windows did found the driver on the disc, it turns out to be a notepad file, which was strange, but i continue to install anyway, but windows pops up a message saying the driver isn't signed or could be harmful or something like that, i cancel the installation and uplugs the camera. i thought it made sense since the mini-cdr could actually be a coaster or a badly burnt disc, as the installer states there's an error, but should i try anyways?

I am now re-installing my various applications,and have installed Win XP Fax using the same procedure as I used last November (Faxing in Windows XP by Sharon Crawford). Everything seemed to go OK, but when I try to send a fax I get an error message on the Fax Monitor: 'Fax device error'.

Now we have a new tower to go with exisiting 24" monitor. My problem is I can not get a old standard VGA monitor to work with the old system listed above. When I plug in the the VGA monitor plug in the VGA outlet in the old computer I get no signal to the monitor. What do I need to do with drivers or other wise to get the old computer back to being able to be used with the old VGA monitor?
