I am trying to load Windows Xp on a Gateway laptop and it crashes at the same spot everytime - during the loading of devices at 34 minutes remaining I have changed the RAM and HDD, Is there a way to load Windows XP and not load devices?
View 14 RepliesMy system just shuts down while trying to install xp home (sp1 ver). And I am forced to shut down during the install. The install will get to the installing devices graphical user interface and quit at the 34 minute mark.Then upon reboot it will check the disk and other parameters and they check out ok, so... hence xp will resume the setup automatically and the process just repeats itself over and over and stall out at the 34 minute mark. Is there a reason for this?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI install sp2 in my machine and after the first reboot the pc crashes at windows logo screen (that with the loading bar-bar is running-) for some time then the monitor turns off and turns on again in a while with the logo beeing at 16 colors and thats it...nothing else happens (loading bar is stoped). I have try installing sp2 from internet manualy download, with the windows update and with microsoft sp2 cd with the same results. The weird is that before some time i have install sp2 and it was working perfectly but i force to make format in my hdd due to viruses. i have try that in my machine (before upgrate)....
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have lost my sound. The sounds icon in control panel say " no audio devices" AND the sound tab shows all listed devices as working porperly. I have deleted an sound object that allows it in device manager and allowed XP to load wht it will. I still have no sound. I checked for sound services in services and they are started as well.If I load Knoppix and test, my sounds work so I am assumming it is not a hardware problem.

So, I went to start, clicked on windows update there! The page opened, but it was small and sometimes it would not fully open! It would freeze half way through the process! View 5 Replies View RelatedFirst my computer was cutting off in the middle of any program. I decided to delete everything on the drive and reformat it and reload windows xp. While trying to load windows xp it would load the set up but when going to load files it locked up everytime. I tried also loading windows 98, 95 and they too locked up. At one point it said I had a virus in my boot sector and at another time it said I had a virus in my RAM. I got a program called PC Beginner to help partition my drive and redo the MBR. I can partition the drive and format it but windows still doesn't load. Now I wonder if there is a problem with the mother board and I have a dual bios board, I was wonder if there is a program loaded in the dual bios that may somehow causing my problem. If so what can be done to clear the problem? How can I get windows reloaded?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI started getting browser and sometimes PC crashes. At first it seemed to be browser related. But the PC would also crash when idle. I tried disabling add- ons in Firefox and opening in safe mode. Tried using Chrome but it would crash with the message that Flash had malfunctioned. Then I started getting Stop messages and BSODs.I hadn't installed and new hardware and, I don't think, installed any new big programs except for updates to existing ones.
I emailed a few of the mini dump files to a friend. He said they didn't specify which drivers were causing the problem. But it might be something to do with the video or the network card. I rolled back drivers. No change. I updated drivers and uninstalled lots of programs. For a month everything seemed stable. Then the BSODs started to return. Infrequently at first but then more regularily. Sorry the story is a bit confused but it is difficult to remember every detail of what happened and the order I did things in.

5.Prior to crash desktop went RED, hence I rebooted and then the issues.
PC was rebooted and this message showed up. I couldn't get to safe mode so I put the XP disc in. I got to the D:winint dir and tried to run bootcfg to scan for the boot file. It came back that it couldn't find it. I was able to see the dir's and data on the 2 drives. I ran chkdsk to see if that would solve the problem, it didn't. Do you think this is a BIOS problem or a missing boot problem. If it was the BIOS would I be able to read the drive. Looking for a fix without destroying everything.

I've lately had some problems with my win-xp (home) following installation/ un-installation of daemon tools that corrupted some registry files. After an unsuccesfull repair-instalation of xp, i re-installed xp onto the secondary partition of my hard drive (d:, the original instalation being on c. I was intending to format the c: drive, then instal a copy of xp-pro i have onto it
finally moving the files i want to keep back from the d: drive onto the c: drive.The problem i'm now having is on formatting i recieve the error message 'system partition is not allowed to be formatted', as it is the primary partition. Can i go about formatting this drive in partitions and proceed with the re-install without having to remove the files i have on the d: drive? How might i go about this?
I started up the computer, watched the BIOS detect the RAM, hard drive, etc, and then was greeted by a blank screen instead of the Windows boot screen. It proceeded though, and after a few seconds flashed to another black screen, this time displaying the cursor. I'm guessing this is the logon screen, but nothing displays but the cursor. (Note that the video card and monitor are both fine...I tried swapping them out just in case.)

I can play a sound file in Media Player,but no sound otherwise. Sometimes i will get an hour or two without the bubble coming up.. but usually it pops up bout every 2-5 seconds.. As you could probably guess this is interferring with how my computer is operating.. It freezes up alot but it will resume after the freeze.If i restart sometimes that will help a little by cutting down how many times the bubble comes up.. I dont have anything plugged into the USBs But i do have a modem connected by ethernet.The error bubbles say USB device unrecognized after clicking on it it shows one unknown device. I have tried powering down and shutting off the power strip. And unistalling all devices and rebooting.

This machine was working GOOD, I could work with my USB web cam, USB drive, USB digicam and others MP3 players.I have reinstalled my WinXP with Service Pack 2.0 and now I CAN'T use any USB device, when I connect my USB drive this device is not powered, XP doesn't notify me for anything. simply this PC looks not to have any USB controller.I have an DELL Notebook, I can use my USB devices on it.I just reinstalled the OS in the same way how I did it before. I think is something about drivers, the control panel (System devices) tells me everything is good and my USB controllers are working correctly.
View 12 Replies View RelatedThe computer I am working with is a Dell P4 desktop with 512 MB RAM, and Windows XP Home with SP2 that was purchased new in August 2005.The problem is that every time I plug a device into the system (MP4 player, USB printer, flash drive) it is not detected. If I look in Device Manager it shows up as an unknown device. If I then try to manually install the driver, it will install properly.I then decided to remove all USB Host Controllers, USB Root Hubs etc. After doing this and rebooting, all of these devices were unknown devices as well. Simply telling Windows to update the driver added the devices properly. Can anyone tell me if you have seen this before and if so, what the solution is?
