Yesterday I was trying to use the Live edition of Linux SUSE 9.1 on my old computer so I took the cord from my newer computer monitor and plugged it into my old computer, then it just said [Hz] ? So I plugged my monitor back into my newer computer and all it does is show the Sony logo and then the Windows XP Loading screen, then after that the monitor gos blank and the green light blinks next to the power button.

i just installed a WD Raptor drive and trying to install Windows XP Pro...the install went fine - and my BIOS configurations are set for RAID bootup. I have my other hard drives disconnected and it still wont boot. I have even gone as far as finishing with the Activation/Serial # and user name but when i restarted it boots up and runs through POST fine but the Windows Splash screen --indicating that windows is loading-- doesn't pop up. i know this sounds like i've just done something dumb but i have built several computers and this one is just kickin my.

I also reguarly run anti-virus, anti-spyware, defrag, etc. The problem started 2 weeks ago when I booted the computer it showed the MB splash screen and then instead of the 2000 loading screen it just showed "Error loading OS." in the top left. Well I figured the hard drive was going so I pulled it out, blew it off, tapped on it, checked connections and stuck it back in. Rebooted and everything seemed fine and has the past 2 weeks. Well today I was playing Civilization 4 and the screen went blue. Yes the dreaded blue screen, but no error messages on the screen or anything. Just a solid blue screen. The computer didn't respond to anything so I pushed the power button on the case. Well upon restarting nothing happens. Just a blank screen. No MB splash screen or anything. Everything is powered up and I can hear the hard drive spinning, but nothing is on the screen.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy sister's Windows XP Home Edition isn't loading. It turns on, appears with a screen that asks to pick between Safe Mode etc, Last Known Config. & Start normally... I've tried all three, safe mode starts to load but doesn't get to the log in screen. Last known and start normally sounds like it is beginning to load but it goes straight to a blank screen.
At one stage, after I turned off and on the computer, the screen alerts me that the CMOS settings are wrong, so I go into the settings and the time and date is wrong...I adjust these to the correct settings, restart and still, nothing loads.
I have recently used Driver Genius to update some drivers and had a power outage while installing the video card drivers. After the power was restored I could not boot normally (it would go blank after the loading screen goes away before the log on screen comes up.) So I boot into safe mode and install the drivers there, and then restart. It worked after about 12 tries. Now, it will not load normally at all anymore.While checking the system error logs, I find that (from 9/26/09 - 9/27/09) I am missing quite a few catalog files in the "system32CatRoot{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}" directory.

Stays blank for 3/4 mins and then boots up as normal.When i get into my system i get a prompt to run chk dsk as i have a corrupt file but the file is different each time.
View 8 Replies View RelatedMy computer is having some trouble. When I try to boot it up I get nothing from the monitor(LCD). This happened a while back and all I did was took the power cord to the monitor out, and plugged it back in. It worked like that for 2 months or so. Today he calls me and he is having the same problem. So again I unplugged the cord and replugged it back in. I got signal but it immediately went blank again. It will only work for 1 second. What could be causing this do you think? I hooked up two other monitors to his computer also. One of them (older one not sure if it works 100%, wouldn't see why not) would BOOT up fine, then once you got to login it would go black, and do exactly what the LCD did. I could unplug it plug it back in for some video. Then I brought over my monitor. It works 100% and I didn't get any video at all with it. I tried other power cords/outlets etc. What do you guys think it could be?
It appears that the power is not coming on on my desktop.The light on the monitor goes orange then green, but the cpu power does not come on on many tries.Even tried moving the plugs,no power on the cpu,monitor blank.

There were no widescreen options. It should choose the monitor's native resolution on its own if the monitor is an LCD.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI start computer and during windows xp logo booting screens the monitor will go blank (orange light by monitor power button) and keyboards lights will turn off numlock caps and scroll lock will not turn them back on and the little light on my wireless usb mouse reciever goes out. however the pc front lights disc tray and network lights remain on and fan is still going. but sometimes i do manage to get passed the startup (10% of the time) and into windows for about 10-30 minutes before the same blank screen freeze up happens. i know its not totally a videocard monitor issue because not just the monitor goes blank everything stops responding......

I put in a new one, but I can't get the OS loaded. I thought the BIOS was looking for the internal cd drive, which doesn't work, and I tried to changed the boot order in BIOS to boot from removable device.It just says media device test failed, no OS found. Can I load te OS from my external?

The basics: XP Professional Boot up screen, right before the windows loading screen, or direct after the F8 Menu if you hit "Start Windows Normally..." it will just lock up, no HDD activity, blank screen. now BSOD, nothing.
All 3 safe mods work fine.
Ran chkdsk /r in recovery.
Ran proper fixboot procedure.
Went into safe mode and checked the event viewer.
The only concerning message i got was: The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:
AmdK8
Fips
nod32drv
Formatting really isnt an issue since i can back up anything i need through safe mode. However its just the fact that the Windows gremlin has struck me again and i must defeat it once more.
I highly doubt this is a hardware issue as it is more of a driver/software issue.any help?

what i've tried:
boot to Last Known Good Configuration - resulting in the same blue screen
boot to Safe Mode / Safe Mode with networking / Safe Mode with comman prompt - resulting in blank (black) screen with "Safe Mode" in the corners and moveable mouse test the hardware (hard drive / memory etc.) via build in PC Doctor - all seems to be working
i am able to use bootable XP CD from other machine to get into Recovery Console
i am able to boot to simple live XP using BartPE-XPE usb key and access the hard drive
I have about an 2" black space around an open page on my screen......how do I get it to return to original full screen size?

I like Excite as my home page,but am having trouble loading it on the XP machine. I have checked these forums and Googled it, but can't seem to find an answer to my particular problem. When I attempt to load Excite,all I get is a blank page with a left and right arrow and pause button in the middle left of the page. The address is correct on the address line.

When I start the computer, it asks if for the choice of Safe Mode, w/ Networking, w/Command Prompt or Normally.
I've tried them all and if I try it normally, it won't get past the XP loading screen. It's loading and then it flashes a blue screen for a second and then restarts the computer again.
I tried pressing F8 at boot and selected 'Disable automatic restart on system failure' and this is what I get

I have this strange problem:I can't see my Bios loading .The screen is totaly black untill the windows' welcome screen , and then everything is back to normal.
It happened when I updated my motherboard Bios (Gigabyte GA-8N-SLI ,Rev. 1.0) through the original vendor's Website
My dads pc was fine then all of the sudden it just restarted.And it came up to the options:restart in safe mode estart in safemode with networking estart in safe mode with networking Last known working config Normal But when he tries any of them.. View 3 Replies View RelatedI couldnt start up windows. It would hang at the windows loading screen and go no further. So I was told to try a repair-install. And thats where even more trouble has started. So I started to repair-install. During the Windows Install setup, it gets almost to the point of being completed, but gave me a blue screen error STOP message at around the "18 minutes left" mark. During "Registering components". It would do this every time at the same spot. So I searched a bit about how to solve the problem. One suggestion I found on the interwebs was to try it with only one stick of ram installed, I have four overall at 2gb. So I tried that, next time I boot up to the comp, it loads up the bios, and then goes to the black windows loading screen with the loading bar, then starts with a blue screen saying "Setup is being restarted" So I figure its restarting my windows installation since it never was completed, after that message, the screen goes black with a cursor, and stays that way forever. I immediately put all the ram back in, and no luck, same thing. I tested each individual ram stick, same thing, just goes black. So now, I can't even seem to re-install windows. Did my hard drive just crap out? Some hardware issue? Im already thinking about buying a new fresh hard drive, installing windows on there, and just moving all my files from the old hard drive over to the new one. Though that would be a pain, I really want to save my current drive! And all the data on it.

It just goes black. The hard drive will run continually as if it's searching for the rest of the information, but can't find it.
