OS Windows XP.System was working fine but a problem has developed.When i turn my pc on get the beep and windows loading but then screen goes blank. red light stops flashing and even the lights on modem go out. Stays blank for 3/4 mins and then boots up as normal.When i get into my system i get a prompt to run chk dsk as i have a corrupt file but the file is different each time.
View 8 Replieswhen i go to turn on my computer, the regular short system beep is longer and then nothing happens, then it beeps again... and so on and so forth. prior to this problem my computer was running pretty unstable, for about 2 days it would reboot whenever it wanted and a couplke times i got a bluescreen message that i dont remember. i didnt write it down cuz im a moron, i have a feeling it has something to do with a surge and the power supply and im hoping i can just get a new better power supply.
View 2 Replies View Relatedi just installed a WD Raptor drive and trying to install Windows XP Pro...the install went fine - and my BIOS configurations are set for RAID bootup. I have my other hard drives disconnected and it still wont boot. I have even gone as far as finishing with the Activation/Serial # and user name but when i restarted it boots up and runs through POST fine but the Windows Splash screen --indicating that windows is loading-- doesn't pop up. i know this sounds like i've just done something dumb but i have built several computers and this one is just kickin my.

So I plugged my monitor back into my newer computer and all it does is show the Sony logo and then the Windows XP Loading screen, then after that the monitor gos blank and the green light blinks next to the power button.
View 8 Replies View RelatedFirst I run Windows 2000 and keep it updated as much as Microsoft releases updates. I also reguarly run anti-virus, anti-spyware, defrag, etc. The problem started 2 weeks ago when I booted the computer it showed the MB splash screen and then instead of the 2000 loading screen it just showed "Error loading OS." in the top left. Well I figured the hard drive was going so I pulled it out, blew it off, tapped on it, checked connections and stuck it back in. Rebooted and everything seemed fine and has the past 2 weeks. Well today I was playing Civilization 4 and the screen went blue. Yes the dreaded blue screen, but no error messages on the screen or anything. Just a solid blue screen. The computer didn't respond to anything so I pushed the power button on the case. Well upon restarting nothing happens. Just a blank screen. No MB splash screen or anything. Everything is powered up and I can hear the hard drive spinning, but nothing is on the screen.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy sister's Windows XP Home Edition isn't loading. It turns on, appears with a screen that asks to pick between Safe Mode etc, Last Known Config. & Start normally... I've tried all three, safe mode starts to load but doesn't get to the log in screen. Last known and start normally sounds like it is beginning to load but it goes straight to a blank screen.
At one stage, after I turned off and on the computer, the screen alerts me that the CMOS settings are wrong, so I go into the settings and the time and date is wrong...I adjust these to the correct settings, restart and still, nothing loads.
I have recently used Driver Genius to update some drivers and had a power outage while installing the video card drivers. After the power was restored I could not boot normally (it would go blank after the loading screen goes away before the log on screen comes up.) So I boot into safe mode and install the drivers there, and then restart. It worked after about 12 tries. Now, it will not load normally at all anymore.While checking the system error logs, I find that (from 9/26/09 - 9/27/09) I am missing quite a few catalog files in the "system32CatRoot{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}" directory.

Then I get a Black Windows screen that says "It is now safe to turn off your computer" I have updated the bios. He just bought a new video card (Ati 9550 256mb AGP) and he ended up disabling the old video card in device manager. Now, no matter if he installs the new or old card, the screen goes black right before it goes into the desktop. He can hear sound, such as the windows sound. He went into bios, but there's no video options, as this is a custom built PC. He tried to go into safe mode, but that doesn't work..same black screen.

Everything is good, POST works fine. I've got a formatted hard drive, no OS on it. I'm trying to install Windows to that OS, but it will not install. It goes to a blank screen after detecting my hardware settings. Wasn't sure if this topic should have gone in OS or hardware, so i put it here. I've tried 2 windows CDs and a Linux DVD on 2 different disc drives, and still nothing works past the "setup is detecting your hardware settings" screen. I have no idea what to do.

When I go to Turn Off Computer, the "Turn Off" button has changed, indicating that when I hit it, it will install the updates. There's also a field I can click which will Turn Off without installing the updates. When I click the Turn Off buttion, it attempts to install two updates. It doesn't appear to be successful. Every time I Turn Off Computer it apparently tries to install the same two updates. I can reboot and do this over and over and they don't "take".There's nothing in Event Viewer to indicate what's going on. I couldn't find any installation logs though I'm not sure where to look.

I put in a new one, but I can't get the OS loaded. I thought the BIOS was looking for the internal cd drive, which doesn't work, and I tried to changed the boot order in BIOS to boot from removable device.It just says media device test failed, no OS found. Can I load te OS from my external?

The basics: XP Professional Boot up screen, right before the windows loading screen, or direct after the F8 Menu if you hit "Start Windows Normally..." it will just lock up, no HDD activity, blank screen. now BSOD, nothing.
All 3 safe mods work fine.
Ran chkdsk /r in recovery.
Ran proper fixboot procedure.
Went into safe mode and checked the event viewer.
The only concerning message i got was: The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:
AmdK8
Fips
nod32drv
Formatting really isnt an issue since i can back up anything i need through safe mode. However its just the fact that the Windows gremlin has struck me again and i must defeat it once more.
I highly doubt this is a hardware issue as it is more of a driver/software issue.any help?
I was playing a game and I rebooted my computer. When i went to start it it went to the a blank blue screen before the account screen in the beginning of XP. I know i can restore to new but i will have lost so much information that it would take about 3 months to retain it all back. It says it can not find operating system. The symptoms:
Linked popups in IE generate a blank window.
Event viewer property pages do not open Services property pages do not work
Javascript "A disk error has occurred during a read operation"
Firefox opens the window but also adds a second blank one for a popup
Links in outlook emails open fine in new window
AOL webmail works correctly new window with email in it
Since this behavior arrived out of the blue and is specific I believe some proximate events were:
Install and de-install Pluck (RSS browser tool)
Install and de-install Java V1.5 SE
AOL homepage saying it was upgrading (AOL mail does work)
To resolve this I have:
Used Iefix to deinstall reinstall IE
Updated to all fixes sans sp2
run sfc /scannow
downloaded current scripting engine from MS
re-registered all suggested dlls for ie6
run current Macafee on everything
gone through MS knowledgebase
I did find two other users having the same problem with an extensive list of possible resolutions, none of which have worked.

i am able to use bootable XP CD from other machine to get into Recovery Console
i am able to boot to simple live XP using BartPE-XPE usb key and access the hard drive

I like Excite as my home page,but am having trouble loading it on the XP machine. I have checked these forums and Googled it, but can't seem to find an answer to my particular problem. When I attempt to load Excite,all I get is a blank page with a left and right arrow and pause button in the middle left of the page. The address is correct on the address line.

When I start the computer, it asks if for the choice of Safe Mode, w/ Networking, w/Command Prompt or Normally.
I've tried them all and if I try it normally, it won't get past the XP loading screen. It's loading and then it flashes a blue screen for a second and then restarts the computer again.
I tried pressing F8 at boot and selected 'Disable automatic restart on system failure' and this is what I get

I have this strange problem:I can't see my Bios loading .The screen is totaly black untill the windows' welcome screen , and then everything is back to normal.
It happened when I updated my motherboard Bios (Gigabyte GA-8N-SLI ,Rev. 1.0) through the original vendor's Website
My dads pc was fine then all of the sudden it just restarted.And it came up to the options:restart in safe mode estart in safemode with networking estart in safe mode with networking Last known working config Normal But when he tries any of them.. View 3 Replies View RelatedI couldnt start up windows. It would hang at the windows loading screen and go no further. So I was told to try a repair-install. And thats where even more trouble has started. So I started to repair-install. During the Windows Install setup, it gets almost to the point of being completed, but gave me a blue screen error STOP message at around the "18 minutes left" mark. During "Registering components". It would do this every time at the same spot. So I searched a bit about how to solve the problem. One suggestion I found on the interwebs was to try it with only one stick of ram installed, I have four overall at 2gb. So I tried that, next time I boot up to the comp, it loads up the bios, and then goes to the black windows loading screen with the loading bar, then starts with a blue screen saying "Setup is being restarted" So I figure its restarting my windows installation since it never was completed, after that message, the screen goes black with a cursor, and stays that way forever. I immediately put all the ram back in, and no luck, same thing. I tested each individual ram stick, same thing, just goes black. So now, I can't even seem to re-install windows. Did my hard drive just crap out? Some hardware issue? Im already thinking about buying a new fresh hard drive, installing windows on there, and just moving all my files from the old hard drive over to the new one. Though that would be a pain, I really want to save my current drive! And all the data on it.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI start computer and during windows xp logo booting screens the monitor will go blank (orange light by monitor power button) and keyboards lights will turn off numlock caps and scroll lock will not turn them back on and the little light on my wireless usb mouse reciever goes out. however the pc front lights disc tray and network lights remain on and fan is still going. but sometimes i do manage to get passed the startup (10% of the time) and into windows for about 10-30 minutes before the same blank screen freeze up happens. i know its not totally a videocard monitor issue because not just the monitor goes blank everything stops responding......
