View 8 Replies View Relatedi had a computer which had a pretty bad visus on it. i think i got the virus out but now it wont start.I tried to do a repair of windows with what i thought was the disc for the pc, turns out it was a different xp version than the one on the pc.
So how i have the original corrupted windows, and the repair version of xp on the machine. Both of which will not even run.Its really important that i get the data of the pc, that was the whole point of what i am doing. the computer starts, then said it didnt load, i choose how i want to start the pc, safe mode...etc and then it freezes.Sometimes it just goes straight to a black screen, and i can no longer get it to boot from the windows disc.
When the computer boots, the loading Progress Bar of Windows XP is displayed, but as soon as the computer goes into Windows XP, the screen turns black and stays black. wat is the cause of this problem and its solution?
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Medion PC running Windows XP loads past the windows loading screen then simply goes black but the computer is still on and the screen is still active. My dual boot of Ubuntu works perfectly as does safe mode. Ive had this issue for a while but it used to turn on after i rebooted it but now it only turns on occasionally. Also I'm almost certain its got nothing to do with my hardware.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Compaq Presario 5320 US, XP Pro, 768 MB Ram 1.5 GHz CPU. It works fine until I shut it down. Then I get a Black Windows screen that says "It is now safe to turn off your computer" I have updated the bios. Anyway to fix this so I don't have to manually press the button to power it off at that point?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm using a notebook and I just hibernate my computer, so I decided to finally give it a restart. The restart when fine, I saw the boot screen it was booting, I could of aborted the chkdsk but I decided to let it run. After it ran, the computer restarted and the computer hangs after the bios screen. F8 --> Safe Mode, Last known good config and all those nice things didn't work. I even booted into recovery mode, tried chkdsk /p fixboot fixmbr, none of that worked. Anyways, right now I booted into the XP CD clicked enter, clicked REPAIR and it's just reinstalling over I guess? I've never clicked repair before so I don't know how this is going to work
View 4 Replies View RelatedI had put my pc off with the on/off button, because I was in a hurry. Later when I tried to open it, it shows the BIOS screen and than nothing happens it just turns black and thats it. And it goes off when I put my finger slowly on the on/off button.
View 12 Replies View RelatedIve done a fair amount of searching online and tried a number of things myself, needless to say, they didnt work.Ok, so here's the issue; When I go to turn on my computer, I make it to the XP splash screen with the 3 blue bubbles moving left to right... But nothing from there.Additionally, between the BIOS screen and the XP splash screen, theres some weird black screen with what looks like a long barcode-esq bar, where a solid white line fills the gaps moving left to right...
View 3 Replies View RelatedIt is just a backup drive to be used for video editing -not a primary drive. However, once rebooting I get as far as the windows boot screen and then it hangs. The screen goes black, my monitors power down and nothing happens. Occassionally it reboots on it's own accord but instead of seeing the usual dos prompt screen all I get are some nastly looking blocky patterns. I usually have to turn the power off at the wall when this happens. I get no error messages on the screen at any time.
The good news is I CAN BOOT IN SAFE MODE! This is the difference I have found with other similar problems posted. I can boot in 'safe mode' and 'safe mode with networking' no problem. I can see all my HDD's and everything seems fine. From here I've tried doing system restore several times with no effect.
my parents PC got infected with spyware and the browser was hyjacked. I tried all I could to fix this but I couldn't. I tried posting here for help but didn't get anyone who could fix the PC. So I tried the windows restore. So I went to start>All programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore. I chose the date and it ran. Once it got to the end it rebooted the PC and it came up with the normal strtup procedure untill it said "loading windows xp" or "starting windows xp" something like that, once that goes I get a black screen with just the curser visible. So I tried to reboot and it came up with the settings like start in safe mode, start windows normally, previous settings etc... I have tried all these and they all do the same, black screen after loading. Now the PC has no windows disc thanks to the companys stop supplying the discs and it also has no restore disc.
View 14 Replies View RelatedA few weeks ago it started freezing and restarting randomly. Sometimes, on restarting, I would get the "Serious error" pop-up, which I always sent, and always got different results. Sometimes it would say it was an unknown driver error, sometimes an anti-virus error, once a RAM error. I had just upgraded the RAM when this started, so I ran the M$ testing tool several times, no errors. I also removed the new RAM, which didn't solve the problem, and put it back in

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have windows xp professional sp2, I uninstalled Symantec Antivirus then rebooted computer. Went through bios load screen then came a black screen (no hard drive activity or nothing) and stays black with no hard drive activity or anything for about 5 minutes. After the 5 minutes I get the Windows XP loading screen then boots as normal.
Prior to me uninstalling symantec it went straight from bios screens to windows xp loading screen almost immediately. The reason I uninstalled antivirus was I wanted to try a different antivirus

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I turn on my computer, it does the bios check, then goes into the bios screen on its own. I have checked all of the bios settings, and see nothing set wrong. The only way I can get itno my xp pro system, is to use "F8" during the bios check, the select my hd from there, then it seems only half of my programs work, and it also seems to be randomly changing the programs that do not work, when I do this.

Everything was working fine yesterday and nothing was downloaded or installed to indicate where to start looking. Tried installing 1GB RAM last month to no avail and took it out. Things have been okay since. Have read some posts that suggest using the Windows install CD to repair whatever but I didn't get one with the computer only have the Windows recovery disk.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have recently installed a fresh copy of windows XP on my vaio VGN-SZ770N, everything was goin smooth untill i installed SP3, after installing SP3 and tried to restart my laptop, the laptop was on "Windows is shutting down" blue screen for like 30 mins, so i turned it off manually and turned it on again, now it stops on the black screen with windows XP logo and the loading animation and never get passed that, i can use it in safe mode only, the reason of me installing a win xp is that i had exactly the same problem when Vista was installed on the laptop, it wouldnt get passed the black loadin screen as well, im wondering if this is a hardware failure? Also before installing SP3 i had the Form1 window that pops whenever you start your computer

View 1 Replies View RelatedOK, several months ago I tried to upgrade my video drivers for an ATI Radeon board and after that every time windows booted, my screen would go black before windows started. The monitor saw a video signal but that was about it. If I put my old video card back in it would work fine. So I have been dealing with this for a couple of months and tonight I tried to tackle it again. I removed my old drivers, the old card drivers, everything I could think of. It still didn't work. So I stuck my old card back in and tried a few more things back and forth, and then I got the blue screen of death.

View 3 Replies View RelatedApologies in advance for this being in the wrong place, etc. I'm just a little stuck, and not the most savvy person with computers. So, I have this laptop - Windows XP. Maybe a year old. Never had any problems with it before. But about two days ago, I turned it on and it just started repeating the letter 'j'. With irregular pauses. Even if there wasn't any programs running - straight from the start screen, when I went to type in my password - j. jjj. jjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjj. Though, y'know, it was just a series of dots, since it was in the password box. But.they were 'j's. It doesn't seem to matter whether there is actually anything like Word open, either. After getting rather annoyed at the computer, and button-mashing the entire keyboard, it stopped repeating 'j' and started on '`'. Not... not actually better.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI am running into a very annoying issue. We all work for a local PC repair shop and have had at least 10 pc's and laptops come in during the last two days with all the same issue. Customers have installed some windows update, rebooted and the systems will only display a black screen with a cursor. Some will get into windows if you leave them sitting after an hour or so, but no services are running, cannot run anything on the system (obviously without services running). Have tried repair installs, checkdisk's, and still no luck. Have also scanned HDD's on different systems with numerous anti- virus -spyware programs. nothing found.
Any one have any idea's?We literally had 6 or 7 day rushes for the issues from major VIP people that own local businesses, and our only fix has been to reload windows. Any insight would be great. And please understand that we are all Microsoft certified and have tried all of your run of the mill fixes for windows.
I've been trying to reinstall Windows on my other computer and I've read everything I could find on formatting the harddrive. I don't need to back anything up, as the said computer is my gaming machine. I need all files on my harddrive destroyed. My problem is this: I insert the Windows XP Home Edition setup disk and boot from that. When the option is presented to repair or create a new installation, I choose Create New Installation. I am not presented with I license agreement for some reason (apparently, I should be, if I'm reading instructions correctly). It skips directly to the partitions screen. I have two options: Partition1 Space [NTFS] (4095 MB Used 948 MB Free) and Unpartitioned Space (8MB). Needless to say neither of the free spaces are enough. I cannot delete Partition1, and can't install on unpartitioned space. So, this screen is as far as I can get.
