View 11 Replies View RelatedRunning XP Pro and never had a problem. Since last night it has refused to boot. After doing the XP loading screen for normal time, it loads a black screen with the mouse, and nothing else. I've waited over fifteen minutes and it does nothing. After a few clicks, the error speaker beeps and the mouse freezes. Tried loading in safe mode, and it gives a black screen with all the safe mode text around the screen. Anyone had any experience with this?
View 14 Replies View RelatedI booted up my computer 3 days ago and logged in under my user name, and there were no desktop icons or taskbar, so I restarted my computer and tried every user, still nothing. I went to msconfig to restore it to a earlier point, and when it restarted I went to my user name, and still nothing so I went to msconfig again and booted it up in safe mode, when it restarted, right before the user names screen came up, a black screen with "SAFE MODE" in all four corners pops up for about 3 or 4 seconds, then the user name screen comes up with the ADMIN and the rest of the user names, it doesn't matter what name I log in as it always goes to the same black Safe Mode screen as before but it will freeze there forever. So I had to manually shut it down. When it restarted I hit F8 to get it out of safe mode and chose restart computer normally, then when it restarts the same exact thing thing happens. I've tried every option at the F8 selection screen. So I put in a cd with Mepis Linux on it that my cousin gave me, but I didn't install it I have been running it off the disk. And I have no clue what to do next.
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy computer has been acting screwy. While i have been playing a game my screen would freeze and black out, or just suddently black out.so i would have to shut it off through the back switch. this was happening for about a week. This problem happened again last night only this time it wont let me boot back into windows. it will boot up to the windows logo loading screen and restart, after this restart it will tell me windows did not boot properly and ask to continue with safe mode with networking, and console.(still rebooted with all choices) and windows normaly (rebooted) and windows with last safest configuration (still rebooted). occasionaly it will get to scandisk, after the scandisk it will lock up or reboot, if it gets passed scandisk without rebooting it gives me a blue screen
View 1 Replies View Relatedi had a computer which had a pretty bad visus on it. i think i got the virus out but now it wont start.I tried to do a repair of windows with what i thought was the disc for the pc, turns out it was a different xp version than the one on the pc.
So how i have the original corrupted windows, and the repair version of xp on the machine. Both of which will not even run.Its really important that i get the data of the pc, that was the whole point of what i am doing. the computer starts, then said it didnt load, i choose how i want to start the pc, safe mode...etc and then it freezes.Sometimes it just goes straight to a black screen, and i can no longer get it to boot from the windows disc.
I push the power button on the modem and it's fine... right after the screen does the Windows XP with the loading bar at the bottom screen it turns black and I even left it on for like 10 minutes and it still wont work. I also tried to start windows in SAFE MODE and LAST GOOD CONFIGURATION plus many others, but it wont work. I still have valuable information in the computer so,
View 2 Replies View RelatedI cannot boot my XP machine. In safe mode it also says safe mode in white text in each corner and shows windows build details at the top. I have trying going back to previous good config - same problem. A normal boot just leads to a black screen with a movable mouse arrow - no sign of a login screen. I have tried a recovery reinstall from a an XP pro CD from another computer - this took about 40 minutes and went through all the steps normally (with normal graphics displayed duting the reinstall) but after finishing the same problem is still there.
Only now the windows build info in sfae mode reports SP1 (originally didi not as the computer was supplied with XP before SP1) I am at a loss to know what to do to get the machine wordking without a refomat of the hard disk, whcih will destroy all my data, and my partners stuff too - mostly not backed up, as usual.
I've been messing with and Googling this problem all day and am stumped My laptop:
Toshiba A105-S4134 XP SP2 MCE 2005 Intel T2400 Duo Core 2 GB RAM1. Two days ago I had a glitch - a bunch of browser windows were open and the system just sort of froze up. I ended up doing a hard restart. The PC then took a longer than normal time to boot back up.2. That made me nervous, so yesterday I made True Image images of both partitions on the HD, that is C: (OS and apps) and D: (data).3. This morning I decided to run a memory diagnostic disk (I had memtest86+ and Windows Diagnostics CDs on hand). I set boot priority to CD/DVD ROM using Start > All Programs > Toshiba > Utilities > Toshiba Assist > Optimize > Toshiba Hardware Settings
Powers on to the normal blue screen. Black screen comes up that says We apologize for the inconvience...etc. etc. windows did not shut down normally and gives the option for last know good configeration, start windows normally, safe mode, etc. Tried them all and it just goes back to the normal blue screen and back to We apologize for the inconvience. F10 system recovery does the same thing.I would like to be able to fix this and not lose any of the information I have on my hard drive. I did a total back-up about 7 months ago (13 DVDs worth) and do have some backup through Norton 360
View 11 Replies View RelatedMy main pc is stuck in a boot cycle giving me the black screen with options to start in safe mode etc etc and when selecting one of those options it reboots to the same point. When I press return the system tries to start it attempts it, clicks then goes back to boot cycle. The Windows XP system disk won't cut in like it should so I cannot gain control of the pc.
System is a Dell, 2years old and has had various viruses despite having the usual protection. I am currently using my old trusty Advent Pentium 3 for this message (which has never had the same degree of virus prob's curiously). After the first virus Dell talked me through using Ghost - brilliant. Within a couple of days it was hit again and usinng Spybot got rid of the virus but PC kept displaying the message rundll.dll file damaged. So I used XP Recovery seemingly with no problem only to find it won't reboot.
I'm using Windows XP Professional. I am not able to log back into my Administrator account. I'm stuck in a limited user account and though my Administrator account is set w/o a password, I still can't login, even through my computer's Safe Mode which is was the Dell service person suggested
I was trying to eliminate the login screen from my computer's startup. Initially, I used a tip from Annoyances.org by entering "control userpasswords2" in the Run menu and turning off the "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" option
I had been away from my computer for about an hour and when i returned the screen was black and nothing would change it so hit the restart button. When the computer started up, I first saw the usual blue dell logo-screen, however, the next screen was the windows 98 startup logo-screen. The computer then entered DOS mode and at the top of the screen it says Microsoft Windows 98. This problem persists every time i start the computer. I only have 1 primary partion and i installed XP on it from a clean install by using a win98 bootdisk to format and running winnt from the i386 folder of the xp cd. When i try to enter SAFE MODE the computer goes to the Win 98 start-up logo screen again and enters DOS again. I know that all my files are still on the HDD because i can navigate through them. All i really want to do is somehow save some files that are on te HDD so i can just format and reinstall XP.

It happened when I updated my motherboard Bios (Gigabyte GA-8N-SLI ,Rev. 1.0) through the original vendor's Website
I'm using a notebook and I just hibernate my computer, so I decided to finally give it a restart. The restart when fine, I saw the boot screen it was booting, I could of aborted the chkdsk but I decided to let it run. After it ran, the computer restarted and the computer hangs after the bios screen. F8 --> Safe Mode, Last known good config and all those nice things didn't work. I even booted into recovery mode, tried chkdsk /p fixboot fixmbr, none of that worked. Anyways, right now I booted into the XP CD clicked enter, clicked REPAIR and it's just reinstalling over I guess? I've never clicked repair before so I don't know how this is going to work
View 4 Replies View RelatedI had put my pc off with the on/off button, because I was in a hurry. Later when I tried to open it, it shows the BIOS screen and than nothing happens it just turns black and thats it. And it goes off when I put my finger slowly on the on/off button.
View 12 Replies View RelatedIve done a fair amount of searching online and tried a number of things myself, needless to say, they didnt work.Ok, so here's the issue; When I go to turn on my computer, I make it to the XP splash screen with the 3 blue bubbles moving left to right... But nothing from there.Additionally, between the BIOS screen and the XP splash screen, theres some weird black screen with what looks like a long barcode-esq bar, where a solid white line fills the gaps moving left to right...
View 3 Replies View RelatedA few weeks ago it started freezing and restarting randomly. Sometimes, on restarting, I would get the "Serious error" pop-up, which I always sent, and always got different results. Sometimes it would say it was an unknown driver error, sometimes an anti-virus error, once a RAM error. I had just upgraded the RAM when this started, so I ran the M$ testing tool several times, no errors. I also removed the new RAM, which didn't solve the problem, and put it back in

Compaq laptop running XP has been on "time out' hoping for a change of attitude, no such luck.
Today I tried to put her in Safe Mode and got as far as the "Windows" screen with those 3 blue squares continually cycling. That is as far as she seems willing to go.
I am running xp pro. When rebooting I get a screen asking for the boot order. The thing is that I cannot choose because I tried selecting them with the page up-down, the up down arrows and the tad key and nothing moves. It will not go pass this screen. I have to reset anf let it bootup normal. What am I doing wrong?
View 6 Replies View RelatedUpon returning home from work today, I noticed all the lights were out on my cable modem. I moved my mouse and the monitor stayed black. I then looked down at the CPU and both the green power light and the yellowish reset light were on. I don't know if power cut off during the day or not because my monitor light was flashing and my router lights were on. I plugged in my modem into a different outlet and it came on. I pushed the power button to power down the unit. After waiting about 30 seconds, I powered the unit back up. Things were going good, then I came up the screen that said Windows experienced a problem starting which could be caused by a new configuration... and if the power had gone out of if you didn't know what happened to choose Starts Windows Normally. I selected Safe Mode first, it went through and came directly back to this screen.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have windows xp professional sp2, I uninstalled Symantec Antivirus then rebooted computer. Went through bios load screen then came a black screen (no hard drive activity or nothing) and stays black with no hard drive activity or anything for about 5 minutes. After the 5 minutes I get the Windows XP loading screen then boots as normal.
Prior to me uninstalling symantec it went straight from bios screens to windows xp loading screen almost immediately. The reason I uninstalled antivirus was I wanted to try a different antivirus
I'm having a problem with my Laptop which has just started locking up seconds after switching on after crashing.I was chatting on MSN and sent a message, and at the moment i hit enter the thing froze and i had no choice but to pull the plug since it wasnt responding in any way. Then when i tried to start it up again, it wouldnt. It gets to the screen where it gives you the options (eg. DEL > Setup F8 > Boot Menu etc) and a few lines of text afterwards and then just stops.I've tried going on each of the options (setup. boot menu, boot network) but it just changes to GO > Setup or whatever, then gets the same line of text below and stops. I cant get to the safe mode screen, and i cant seem to Boot from any CD's either
