View 3 Replies View RelatedI've encountered many threads, which have a more or less similar content as mine, but none seem to be entirely similar. I've even tried out the solutions for most of them, however, I still find myself at the same point. The nature of my problem, as the title suggests, is that every time I'm trying to boot my system, the Windows XP loading logo page comes up and after a few seconds, the system restarts itself. After disabling the "Restart If System Encounters Error" option from the menu screen available after pressing F8, I was able to discover that the BSOD actually said that my system was experiencing a "PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA" problem. Thereof, I've tried to fix the problem using the following methods, 1 -> Taking out my RAM chips and remounting them on the motherboard. 2 -> Running Windows Memory Diagnostic tool (Both Standard as well as the Extended Test suites): Neither detected any errors with my motherboard or the RAM chips. 3 -> Tried starting using the "Last Working Configuration" option from the F8 menu: System still reboots at the same point.
4 -> Tried starting in Safe Mode: System still reboots at the same point. 5 -> Ran CHKDSK /R using Windows Recovery Console: Doesn't fix anything 6 -> Tried Repairing my Windows XP installation, it does all the things but right before it steps into the Repairing Menu, the system restarts. 7 -> I haven't installed *any* hardware or software of late. The last *wrong* thing I did, was to shut down my system forcibly (shutting off the power directly), because it wasn't shutting down even after nearly 30 mins had elapsed since I ran the command to shut it down. My last option remains, that I go for a complete reinstall of XP. However, I'm not entirely convinced that this can be the only solution and considering the overheads of taking backups, I'm not really enthusiastic about it either. I'm also hoping that I can get my hands on a different set of RAM chips to check my hardware for sure, but that'll take a week or so.
Brief explanation. I purchased a generic brand laptop and loading xp myself. I had no problems whatsoever until I bought the game Medival II. While I was playing the game, as I had before, it suddenly froze my laptop. I was forced to turn off the power and restart. When I did that, I was able to see the bios screen and enter bios which still seems to recognize everything correctly in the laptop. But when getting out of BIOS system restarts. Just a black screen. I finally got to the point that I decided just to reinstall. Upon attempting to do so, I get the following error message after it attempts to load
View 3 Replies View RelatedHi. This is the second time it happens. I basically press the power button on the PC, all the fans started and then they shut off. I've pressed it again. The fans started to spin for a few seconds but no POST or successful BOOT Beep. After 30 seconds or so the PC finally boots. It gets past POST and the it sais something like this "Bad bios checksum. Recovering from backup bios". After a couple of minutes the PC started as usual and now I'm writing for it.Why is this happening?
View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen I turn on my computer, it does the bios check, then goes into the bios screen on its own. I have checked all of the bios settings, and see nothing set wrong. The only way I can get itno my xp pro system, is to use "F8" during the bios check, the select my hd from there, then it seems only half of my programs work, and it also seems to be randomly changing the programs that do not work, when I do this.

We cannot boot into safe mode, last known good configuration, cds, or USB, and we don't have a floppy drive.
we have tried an XP installation cd, a media center installation cd, and hirens bootcd, and it wont boot into any of them.
I have a Seagate Barracuda ATA IV model ST380021A. Don't know if it's SATA or not. I have a SOYO SY-P4VTP M/B. After I do a clean/new install on a formatted drive, (I even installed the SATA drivers that came w/ the mobo just in case) the computer freezes on reboot after the initial installation where it says "Setup will continue after reboot" or something like that. @ the bootscreen with the logo, the bluish bar scrolls a couple of times and freezes. Does anyone know why? I tried installing at a friends house and it worked fine so I know it's not a harddrive error but I place it in mines and it doesn't work so I create a new install and same problem.. I know it's not a temp issue since it's running < 100 F. THis is a genuine copy of XP. Just in case I used my friends.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI had been away from my computer for about an hour and when i returned the screen was black and nothing would change it so hit the restart button. When the computer started up, I first saw the usual blue dell logo-screen, however, the next screen was the windows 98 startup logo-screen. The computer then entered DOS mode and at the top of the screen it says Microsoft Windows 98. This problem persists every time i start the computer. I only have 1 primary partion and i installed XP on it from a clean install by using a win98 bootdisk to format and running winnt from the i386 folder of the xp cd. When i try to enter SAFE MODE the computer goes to the Win 98 start-up logo screen again and enters DOS again. I know that all my files are still on the HDD because i can navigate through them. All i really want to do is somehow save some files that are on te HDD so i can just format and reinstall XP.

View 13 Replies View RelatedI have been having some troubles with my Compaq Presario (Windows XP) over the past few days including extremely slow start up (about a full 7 minutes to boot up, when it used to take about 3) and a slow shut down process. I have already gone through the msconfig and unchecked everything unnecessary. Also my mouse is a bit jumpy, as in when I drag it, sometimes it stops and needs a second to catch up. (This doesn't occur enough to be a major problem though.) However, I think all of these symptoms may just be side effects, because my main issue that I need resolved is that my audio and video files skip.
In itunes, my audio files play but they skip at least about every minute or when I just begin to play them or fast forward, which is just enough to drive me crazy. The video is the worst though; some videos play as long as I just press play and not click anything else. Other videos, however, have continuous skipping no matter what and are practically unwatchable. I downloaded the most recent version of iTunes but no change.
All audio and video in Windows Media player, Quicktime, streaming from internet, and even the start up sound when I turn on my computer have the same skipping problem. (I tried a DVD and that only skipped in the main menu and once when I first started playing it.)I know that was a long set up but I wanted to give as much info right of the bat. I'm not extremely tech savvy but I appreciate any help anyone can give.
Any audio that I play skips at regular intervals. It doesn't matter if it's an mp3, cd, avi file or even the windows startup tune. Video files skip in conjunction. It doesn't matter what media player I use, I get the same result.

View 6 Replies View RelatedOf course, I looked around the web about how to reformat the hard drive. My computer's been experiencing problems-page fault in nonpage area;(blue screens) or irql drivers less equal to or something like that. So, my computer has taken a beating and seems corrupt. So I tried booting the Windows XP with the Windows XP service Pack 2,and I tried installing windows, but as soon as the setup loads the files, it skips over to starting windows xp...and then as soon as xp installation starts, it turns to guess what? PAGE FAULT IN NON FAULT AREA. The format option is completely skipped over.So is there NO WAY I can format the hard disk, start from scratch?
View 14 Replies View RelatedIs there any way to access the bios of a computer with another computer, via a direct link or a router? I am sure that the bios have been affected and attempts to boot from either a floppy or cd get ignored in the loading process and the bios canot find the module to activate the periferal devices ie: keyboard, mouse, usb ports. I am at a total loss of how to do this.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to reinstall Windows on my other computer and I've read everything I could find on formatting the harddrive. I don't need to back anything up, as the said computer is my gaming machine. I need all files on my harddrive destroyed. My problem is this: I insert the Windows XP Home Edition setup disk and boot from that. When the option is presented to repair or create a new installation, I choose Create New Installation. I am not presented with I license agreement for some reason (apparently, I should be, if I'm reading instructions correctly). It skips directly to the partitions screen. I have two options: Partition1 Space [NTFS] (4095 MB Used 948 MB Free) and Unpartitioned Space (8MB). Needless to say neither of the free spaces are enough. I cannot delete Partition1, and can't install on unpartitioned space. So, this screen is as far as I can get.

Ok so I just fixed a computer and reinstalled the Operating System. I booted it once an installed all the drivers again then restart it. Upon doing so it failed to boot the operating system. I rebooted it again and said start Windows in safe mode. This results in the Windows XP loading screen appearing but when it goes away the whole system restarts. The same thing happens no matter what I select on the "Windows did not start up last time" screen.

View 6 Replies View RelatedThis is a totally unexpected problem. My computer was totally fine last night. The only new process I did last night was back up my whole C Drive onto an external hard drive. When I got home this afternoon, the computer starts as normal then I get the error message asking me to choose to "Start Windows Normally" or "Last Known Good Configuration". No matter which one I choose, the Windows XP Home Edition screen comes up and begins to load, then my computer just restarts itself and I go through the same process. What's happening?
