Computer Restarts About 4 Times A Day?
Jul 23, 2008
I have been looking into this computer restarting. I have downloaded recent drivers and updates. I looked at Microsofts suggestions. After the bsod if comes back up and the error reports says they are not sure what it is but it has something to do with antivirus.
Here is the event. It seems to happen whenever they are playing games or online. sometimes they will just go back to the desktop and the program will close.

i have a problem with my windows xp service pack 2.while starting my pc it restarts one or two times and then starts properly and checks the drive on which the pagefile is allocated alongwith the system drive.
i think there is a problem with the pagefile allocation because i have found that the drive check takes place of that drive on which the pagefile is allocated.

I seem to be having problems as of late with my computer. for the past 10-15 days when I startup my computer sometimes Windows will load and other times it won't. I don't even get the privledge of the blue screen of death, but rather then brown green screen saying Windows failed to start. Usually it takes 3-4 tries before Windows successfully loads, but it seems to be getting progressively worse. I haven't installed any new software or modifiied any configuration details within the last 30days. I even tried a system restore point of about a month ago and I continue to have this problem.
I threw in my XP cd for a re-install but it says my version of windows is newer then the one on the cd, and after thinking about it, if this is a serious problem, having to re-install windows, all of my drivers for my 3rd party hardware and then update everything might not be worth the effort if I can just get a new computer. I have been pondering for a while of purchasing a mac for my next round of computer purchases so if it comes down to that, hardware and software costs from my current system are not a major issue. So is my computer just slowly dying like a used car, or what might be the problem?

My computer freezes at least twice a day. Sometimes when i leave it on for quite some time, it freezes. At other times it just freezes while i'm doing some work. Just now the computer restarted by itself when i was running some programs (matlab, excel, bitcomet, zone alarm). I have to restart my computer manually everytime. I'm using Windows XP SP2, Zone Alarm Pro, BitComet, Prevx, McAfee. I've already checked my power option (hibernation disabled, never turn off monitor or hard disks and never standby).

I'm not sure whether this is a hardware or software problemBasically at random times my computer just seems to lose power and shuts itself off. Ive have taken it too computer shops and had it looked at, they have done various things like change motherboard etc and none of that has helped. The last piece of advice I had was that it was probably software related and the best way to fix it would be to simply wipe the system and start from scratch but if possible id like to avoid that.Sometimes the PC will stay on for 4/5/6hours at a time and run fine, other times after just 5 minutes it will shut itself off. Then when I try to turn it back on it won't switch on unless it is left for a while.

Lately it has been going super slow I have been trying to play my sims 2 game which was working fine until I installed the Sims 2 Pets. which seems to have trouble running on the computer. However the computer had been running slow previous to all of this. It had also been restarting itself at random times which we thought was because of the video card as the fan is humming and vibrating making all kinds of weird noises. I have now deleted all unecessary programs and uninstalled all of the sims programs. I have also ran two different anti virus programs whilst in safe mode which did not pick anything up each time. As of now it is running pretty efficiently but I can not do anything with it when i open IE6 it will load Google but no other pages.it just doesn't work it stays open sometimes when IE6 freezes the whole computer freezes and I have to restart by using the power button.

The normal loading time is about 1-2 seconds. Loading time has been ranging from 2 to 45 seconds from start menu, desktop shortcuts, and Windows Explorer. All other programs load normal speed 1-4 seconds. My Documents, which I use the most often, is the worst. Doesn?t appear to depend on how many programs/windows are open or if I am on the internet. Using AVG Free antivirus-no infections found, except 20 or so level 3 cookie/yieldmanagers when loading Internet Explorer/Firefox. No recent changes to the computer. Only 5% of hard drive being used. Spybot/Adaware/AVG run every couple of days. This has been happening for 17 days, tried several previous system restore points--no effect. Defragged?although XP indicated this unnecessary. I use an APC battery backup. Scan Disk run several days ago--no problems found. This morning working normally for first time since problem began (no action taken)?yesterday loading times varied from 4-35 seconds throughout the day.

I've been using Adobe Photoshop for awhile now and I seem to have a serious problem. Sometimes, when I'm using it, the computer just restarts without any error. This happened to me a few times. I tried Norton Virus Scanner, Adaware, Defragment, and System Restore. But sadly... it still doesn't work...It happened again when I was using spy bot and listening to music... what is the problem??

Ok so I just fixed a computer and reinstalled the Operating System. I booted it once an installed all the drivers again then restart it. Upon doing so it failed to boot the operating system. I rebooted it again and said start Windows in safe mode. This results in the Windows XP loading screen appearing but when it goes away the whole system restarts. The same thing happens no matter what I select on the "Windows did not start up last time" screen.

I have a computer that restarts when it should shut down. Can anyone please help me?Hardware:Motherboard - Intel D865PERL Processor - P4 3.0E GHz Memory - 512 Mb DDR PC3200 Hard Disk - 80 Gb Parallel ATA Video Card - ATI Radeon 9250 OS: Windows XP Professional.Things I've tried: Clean install of Windows XP Pro Checked if Motherboard grounds with Case Tried with another Power Supply Latest BIOS Unchecked Automatically Restart if system fails I've visited different forums, and the information doesn't seem to help.A little more explanation, if I shut down some times it shuts down, and sometimes it restarts. It restarts more often than stays of.Usually (9 out of 10) if I flick on the power switch of the volt regulator, the Computer Starts before I press the start button.

I was having some Adware and virus issues so I got help with those here, but in the process, it looks like I did something pretty screwy. If I shut down from the start button it only restarts the computer. If I try to open it up in safe mode via msconfig from run, it just restarts the computer in normal mode. If I try F8, same thing.I get a "your system has recovered from a seriour error" every time the computer restarts. When I dig for details on the error, this is what it says.

This is a totally unexpected problem. My computer was totally fine last night. The only new process I did last night was back up my whole C Drive onto an external hard drive. When I got home this afternoon, the computer starts as normal then I get the error message asking me to choose to "Start Windows Normally" or "Last Known Good Configuration". No matter which one I choose, the Windows XP Home Edition screen comes up and begins to load, then my computer just restarts itself and I go through the same process. What's happening?

I have a Dell Dimention 2350 , Windows XP Home edition, SP2. The computer just shuts down at time without error messages. I can be on the net or running any program. Then it just restarts as if I I pushed the start button. A few times , when it restarted, it loaded me into the page that you get when you tap F8 at startup. I think it's clean from viruses. I have run Spybot and SuperAnti Spyware and AVG.It has ZoneAlarm for a firewall and runs AVG antivirus. When I opened the inside of the case, it was very clean. No dust on the "fins" or any dust buildup anywhere. I ran PCPitstop and it said 3 drivers were out of date and I believe that I have updated 2 out of 3 of them

I just started having a problem with search in Windows XP (sp3). The other options work ok, but search "all files and folders" crashes Explorer.exe. I reinstalled search assistant from the original XP disc -- still the same problem.I think this is the right error in the event log:Faulting application explorer.exe, version 6.0.2900.5512, faulting module kernel32.dll, version 5.1.2600.5512, fault address 0x00012aeb.For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
