Way To Access Bios Of Computer With Another Computer / Via Direct Link Or Route
Aug 24, 2005
Is there any way to access the bios of a computer with another computer, via a direct link or a router? I am sure that the bios have been affected and attempts to boot from either a floppy or cd get ignored in the loading process and the bios canot find the module to activate the periferal devices ie: keyboard, mouse, usb ports. I am at a total loss of how to do this.

When I turn on my computer, it does the bios check, then goes into the bios screen on its own. I have checked all of the bios settings, and see nothing set wrong. The only way I can get itno my xp pro system, is to use "F8" during the bios check, the select my hd from there, then it seems only half of my programs work, and it also seems to be randomly changing the programs that do not work, when I do this.

Recently, I tried to run some old MS-DOS games under WinXP. However, none of my games was able to run (because all these games use the file DOS4GW.exe, which requires direct hardware access and extended memory, not supported by the command line)I tried every emulator i found on the net (DOSbox, Virtual PC, Virtual Machine) but nothing,So i decided to make a DOS boot disk . Everytime, i insert the disk, i will boot to pure DOS, and when i eject the disk, Windows XP will load.

This problem started happening randomly and now I cannot run checkdisk at all on reboot. Basically I cannot run Checkdisk at all on my OS drive because it always says in Windows that it is in use and needs to run the scan on next reboot. After I reboot, the above error message displays (see thread title).I've ran a virus scan and spyware/adware scans and I'm now pretty sure that it isn't the issue. I've tried disabling all non-essential services in services.msc and disabling all startup items under msconfig.exe, neither of which made any difference.I'm really beating my head against the wall on this one, I have no idea what the cause is?

I left my computer in "suspend", and when I sat again, it was frozen at my BIOS screen. Each time I try to restart it, it goes straight to that screen. I can't even access my BIOS settings (pressing keyboard buttons doesn't work). Nothing changed when I placed my XP disk in the ROM drive.
I'm using an ASUS mobo and AMD processor (sorry, I can't recall the particular models right now). I have not changed any hardware or installed new software recently except anti-virus definitions.
Does this sound like a motherboard or PSU issue?

I tried to update my BIOS on my Acer AOA150 Netbook (I know, terrible idea, I wanted it to be updated in case I used a 9 cell battery). I downloaded the BIOS, version 3310, from http://global-download.acer.com/GDFi...&LC=en&SC=PA_7
I clicked on one of the readme files and it said to click on one of the executable files included in the download and to then click "sure." Once I clicked sure, my computer immediately shut down. I tried to turn it on after only about 5 seconds. It simply will not start up completely but I *can* get to the F2 screen. If I choose not to go with the F2 option, the normal Windows XP flashing image will come up, except it flashes slightly slower than normal. Then, right before the screen can display my various accounts to start windows, the netbook completely shuts off. This is an Acer AOA 150 model netbook. I downloaded the BIOS.
I may have tried to turn it on while the computer was still trying to flash the BIOS. Or, I just messed up from the start by trying to do it from Windows.

So my computer wasnt running the best so i figured maybe I should update my drivers. So I went to the Msi.com.tw website and got to the Live Update Online. I let it update and do what it had to and then I saw this BIOS/Firmware update or something like that so i deceided to do it. I didnt read the Important note posted on the page before i clicked "Yes I would like to try and my own risk" Button. heres what it states.
Important! In order to flash the BIOS/Firmware safely, please make sure to close all running applications in your system before flashing. (Including Outlook, ICQ, Anti-Virus application, etc)
So Yea. I didnt read that. and After I let it do that and give me and error half way through I think. But anyways I had remebered I had left Norton antivirus on. So now whenever I go back to the Msi.com.tw site and click that try at own risk button.. it restarts my computer now. My fans have sped up and make more noises. not to mention it did ask me if i wanted to backup bios on a floppy. and well... when i Build this computer. I wasnt so smart about buying one of those to put in.. I forgot all about it. So no backup on floppy disc. Now My question for you is How do I fix this? Get a new PSU? I mean it sounds with my ears like it is just dieing after I did that. and I read somewheres it does something to your PSU and restarting. Or is there a alternative way to load my old bios back to normal? Please help. This is killing me. My mom bought me a new graphics card for Xmas and i wanna use it but not til my computers better.

When my bios boot sequence is set to boot from CD, a 'press any key to boot from disk' sign should come up during boot-up.
It doesn't (it always used to when I set CD drive, not HD as first boot). I have not got the bios HD set as first boot, but have set it to boot from CD as first boot. When I boot up it goes straight to my HD / XP OS !
I need to boot from disk and I can't work out why the bios boot sequence I have set and saved is being ignored. My bios is not buggy and has never caused any problems until this issue. I have a MSI K9N Platinum mobo.

I am using XP on my laptop, tried to boot up my computer and it was extremely extremely slow. Took maybe 15-20 minutes to get started. When the desktop finally came up, it was in a bad resolution. The cursor would move fine, but if i tried to click on anything it would pretty much completely freeze up.Id maybe be able to minimize a window, but no program would open at all.I don't really know what to do since it is pretty much impossible to do anything on the computer.I checked my hard drive in the computer BIOS and it didn't report any problems. Not really sure what my next step should be.I have a lot of information on my computer that i really can't lose, but don't really know how to back anything up at this point. What can i do?

I don't know what to do because I ran various programs and they show that my bios is unknown. My computer is randomly freezing that is why i am trying to update bios, i don't think it has to do with overheating or psu problems or ram issues. I think it is with my bios.Compaq 5002US Windows XP PRO AMD Duron Processor 801 MHz 192 mb ram 8 mb nvidia vanta lt graphics card.

I have this problem and i really don't know what to do....it always happens except when i am playing some games in full screen...A Problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, follow these steps. Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video adapters. Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to restart your computer, press F8 to select advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.

I have a dell workst precision 470 dual xeon, 3gb , 160gb maxtor hd sata 150 with win xp pro.created the floppy with PROBABLY THE RIGHT CONTROLER driver and pressed F6, then it was only one option in the list so i did that then, CONTINUW with an oem cd win xp pro spk 2, then at the WELCOME TO SETUP screen, i selected the "TO SETUP WINDOWS XP now press enter" then i got on the screen this Message: "Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your comp. make sure any hard disk drives are powered and properly connected to your computer and that any disk-related hardware configuration is correct this may involve running a manufacturer-supplied diag or setup program.set p cannot continue to quit setyp press F3".I have tested the hd with dell diag. tool and al test pass, i believe has to be that the mate boot record has been corrupted or a virus, the thing is i can not even run R console or the Repair/install cause of the above message, is there any suggestion to add this hd to another computer and be able to check the boot.ini and see what is wrong, this is a hd with only one partition, but the problem i have or the one that was created is cause i had a laptop hd that i could not make boot in the laptop so i took it and added to this comp. to the ide 1 controller and then i ran defrag on it, this one has two part c and d so c was the os and d was for other applications, i ran the defrag on it , then i did not remove from the device manager i just simply turn of the dell machine and Physicly remove the laptop hd, then when i was trying to boot the dell 470, i got the the stop error:"STOP: 0X0000007B(0XBA4EB524,0XC0000034, 0X00000000, 0X00000000)", so i think the Boot.ini file is corrupted, the machine is confused or the sata controller driver got corrupted, i am wondering of any sugestion about modifiying the boot.ini file or FIXMBR how in my case, i don't want to reformat the hd .

I dug around some before posting, but I couldn't find anyone having the same problem as me, and I'm hoping this is the most appropriate forum. I apologize for the length, but I wanted to post everything I thought might be pertinent. I was playing Guild Wars when my GeForce 4 Ti4400 died. I got a working Radeon 9700 from a friend (he was using it up until the moment I got it, and I ran AquaMark 3D on it) and ran into only a billion problems. When I performed certain actions involving the online video game Guild Wars, my computer would suddenly reboot with no warning. I adjusted "reboot on error" in the system properties. It no longer rebooted, but instead, I got a solid blue screen (no words, just a blue screen), and I had to hold the power switch down to turn off the system. I suspect that troubleshooting this BSoD problem and putting my system through that repeatedly probably messed up some settings or something. The last thing I did to my computer was install the ATI Catalyst 7.8 display driver only (I was testing out the various driver releases one-by-one to see if any of them fixed my BSoD problem). It installed, asked me if I wanted to restart, I clicked yes, it began restarting, froze at a black screen (not the first time I had that problem since all my video card/Guild Wars problems), I once again held the power switch down to turn it off, waited a few seconds to turn it back on, and since then I have had the error described under the "Current Problem" heading above.
