when i turn it on it goes all the way to the windows xp logo thing but then it turns off and restarts and does the same thing over and over again...i managed to get in to my computer with safe mode ..and tryed system restore..but it didnt fix anything it says it has a problem with the drives or somthing like that

Afterwards the harddrive powers-down, the fans stop running, etc. Then for no reason, the computer turns back on after a brief period of time off (varied: 1hr, 15min, 8 sec) as if someone pushed the power button.I did not install any new software, or update/added on new hardware when this problem started to happen. I do not have my startup disk, and also, it won't let me boot the computer in safe mode, last known configuration or anything.

When I go to Turn Off Computer, the "Turn Off" button has changed, indicating that when I hit it, it will install the updates. There's also a field I can click which will Turn Off without installing the updates. When I click the Turn Off buttion, it attempts to install two updates. It doesn't appear to be successful. Every time I Turn Off Computer it apparently tries to install the same two updates. I can reboot and do this over and over and they don't "take".There's nothing in Event Viewer to indicate what's going on. I couldn't find any installation logs though I'm not sure where to look.

View 4 Replies View Relatedi seem to be having a problem with my second computer. it keeps turning off and on. it beeps when ever it turns on.i have no idea what the problem is.i was trying to reformat the drive but it would not stay on long enough to read the cd.so i was thinking it might be the harddrive. so i put another harddrive in it that i know is working fine. it does stay on but i get first the safe mode screen. it does not matter what option i pick like start windows normally or start in safe mode after i hit enter i get a blue screen telling me windows has shut down to protect my system from a fatal error. it tells me to check my harddrive for viruses or errors. my problem is i don't know how to get past that blue screen to check my harddrive. i have to turn the computer off. it happens every time i turn it on.i would give you a log report but i can't make one.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI've been having really bad computer troubles recently and really need some help, cause I've wracked my brain trying to think of possible solutions here.To give a bit of background:The computer in question is an AMD Athlon 1800+ that I've had for about 3 years now. It's not the most stellar computer, but I mainly use it to surf the web and play some low-end games nothing spectacular.Recently however it had started to reboot constantly, and eventually just power off and never come back on. I figured it was the power supply, so I purchased a new 400W one, installed it and everything was working great.Fast-forward a couple weeks later, and I started to hear a really odd noise coming from the computer. It sounded almost as if sparks were flying around inside, but I removed the case and checked what the problem was, and it seemed the CPU cooling fan was having some troubles, and eventually stopped working. So just today I went out and bought a new CPU cooling fan, installed it, and again, everything was working fine.
However, just tonight, the computer began to reboot randomly again, and now it is at the point where it will not turn on, and when I do power it on, it just idles and beeps constantly. They are fairly short beeps, but they continue on and on indefinitely. I read up on the beep codes and how they coordinate with the BIOS setting, but problem is I have no idea which BIOS setting I have, so I am not sure what could be the problem. To be safe, I began to unplug the cards one by one, seeing if any of them stopped the beeping, but to no avail.So I am at a total loss here Having just bought those two things recently and STILL having the computer act like a pile of garbage is disheartening to say the least, and I just hope someone may have an idea on what or how I could fix this.
My PC is around 6 years old, maybe older, and for the last couple of months, mostly during the night (which to be honest scares the hell out of me), it will turn on randomly. Sometimes it's when I move the mouse, which I know had something to do with a setting in the BIOS, but sometimes it's for no reason at all. It just...boots. Sometimes straight after I turn it back off. I've had to unplug it at night.I always shut it down properly - no standby or hibernation.
View 3 Replies View Relatedhere's the deal my vista kept getting blue screens so I reinstalled it. I was unhappy with it and tried to install XP. The computer keeps turning off on install while its loading files. I've formatted several times to try and get this working so now I don't even have an os to get on the computer with. I'm running an acer aspire 5100. I tried to get back on by installing vista again but the expanding files part of the install stops at 90% and I get an error. Repairs from both xp and vista install discs don't do anything.

When i log in everything loads like its going to work but then after the last thing loads it goes to a black screen and you can't do nothing, but you can sign in on safe mode, have any idea of what to do in safe mode to fix it???
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm not sure whether this is a hardware or software problemBasically at random times my computer just seems to lose power and shuts itself off. Ive have taken it too computer shops and had it looked at, they have done various things like change motherboard etc and none of that has helped. The last piece of advice I had was that it was probably software related and the best way to fix it would be to simply wipe the system and start from scratch but if possible id like to avoid that.Sometimes the PC will stay on for 4/5/6hours at a time and run fine, other times after just 5 minutes it will shut itself off. Then when I try to turn it back on it won't switch on unless it is left for a while.

It POSTs, it sees the hard drive and the operating system. But as soon as the XP logo appears, the computer reboots. we turned off automatic reboot and got the following error:

We cannot boot into safe mode, last known good configuration, cds, or USB, and we don't have a floppy drive.
we have tried an XP installation cd, a media center installation cd, and hirens bootcd, and it wont boot into any of them.
as above, pentium 4 windoiws xp black screen on startup cannot see bios menu or get to safe mode. restarts on loading the xp bar

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a Seagate Barracuda ATA IV model ST380021A. Don't know if it's SATA or not. I have a SOYO SY-P4VTP M/B. After I do a clean/new install on a formatted drive, (I even installed the SATA drivers that came w/ the mobo just in case) the computer freezes on reboot after the initial installation where it says "Setup will continue after reboot" or something like that. @ the bootscreen with the logo, the bluish bar scrolls a couple of times and freezes. Does anyone know why? I tried installing at a friends house and it worked fine so I know it's not a harddrive error but I place it in mines and it doesn't work so I create a new install and same problem.. I know it's not a temp issue since it's running < 100 F. THis is a genuine copy of XP. Just in case I used my friends.

Everything went well as expected except for one thing.When I turn on my computer, the acer logo appears then a page appears again which asks me to choose whether to start windows xp or repair it using USB. I have to always click the start windows xp before the windows logo appears and everyhting in windows is alright. I dont know how to fix this so that after the acer logo appears, windows logo comes next then desktop.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI had been away from my computer for about an hour and when i returned the screen was black and nothing would change it so hit the restart button. When the computer started up, I first saw the usual blue dell logo-screen, however, the next screen was the windows 98 startup logo-screen. The computer then entered DOS mode and at the top of the screen it says Microsoft Windows 98. This problem persists every time i start the computer. I only have 1 primary partion and i installed XP on it from a clean install by using a win98 bootdisk to format and running winnt from the i386 folder of the xp cd. When i try to enter SAFE MODE the computer goes to the Win 98 start-up logo screen again and enters DOS again. I know that all my files are still on the HDD because i can navigate through them. All i really want to do is somehow save some files that are on te HDD so i can just format and reinstall XP.
