View 3 RepliesWhen Windows adds a new monitor using the standard driver, can it detect the aspect ratio? When I hooked up mine, all the resolution choice were for 4:3 monitors. There were no widescreen options. It should choose the monitor's native resolution on its own if the monitor is an LCD.

In other words, you have to set the flat monitor screen on its side to view your display. I ran Norton Antivirus and there were 5 items that I couldn't delete including TBPS.exe.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell E207WFP Flat Panel monitor on a Dell Dimension E520 computer with TONS of memory and which is about a year and a half old. It has been working absolutely fine until Sunday - my son left the computer on overnight, and when he went to turn it off the next morning there was a blue screen error but I couldn't read it because the letters were all jumbled. It's just a blank screen, and then the Auto-Detect comes on and puts it in power save.
I've been trying to troubleshoot from another computer, Dell's tech sites told me to check this and check that, but since I can't even get Windows to start up.
I'm wondering if as a starting point I should try to reinstall Windows? Or try to boot up from the disk?
bit past the right and bottom edges of the monitor screen. things like my Netscape and IE browsers don't seem to run over when maximized, and my toolbar seems ok as well. I'm running Windows XP on a Compaq Presario 5012US with a Nvidia GeForce4 MX 420 video card. The screen resolution I'm currently using is 800x600, and adjusting this setting up or down does nothing to fix the problem. I just updated the drivers for my video card, and windows is up to date as well. I'm totally stumped on this. Awhile back I was having bigger problems with my display when I was also running my TV as a second monitor,
I'm running a NEC MultiSync XV17 monitor also.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI also have been using a Dell 19" LCD (normal) monitor...using the analog connector rather than the digital one. When I hooked up the Samsung this afternoon, I got the desktop and installed the drivers because although the screen looked fine, I had a black 3" wide strip down the right hand side so the desktop wasn't full screen. I used the buttons on the monitor to make that adjustment and immediately everything 'stretched' to the right and the icons and fonts looked elongated.I have to tell you also that I normally use 1024x768 for my resolution. Using digital connector I remember it automatically went to the largest resolution available and everything was so tiny not only on the desktop but also on the net that I couldn't see anything. Digital would not let me readjust back down so I went back to the analog. The wide screen LCD is also using analog.

View 7 Replies View RelatedMy VPR Matrix (XP Home) Notebook's screen can ONLY be seen in the sunlight--but even then it is nearly impossible to see! What I want to do is view the computer on my external monitor, so I can transfer some files to another computer--but I can't see to change the settings. Can this be done just using 'keystrokes' or is there some other way?FYI: I bought this computer from BestBuy. It was quite expensive in 2003. recently, I brought it back to have it repaired. The Geek Squad wrote up a work order and charged me a $238.00 non-refundable deposit (as the warranty was no longer in effect). They told me they'd have to send it to California to be repaired.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently re-installed win. xp on the dell insperation 2400. Everything went find except the resoluton wouldn't change from the 480 x ...so I tried to set up my dial up but I needed a higher resolution. I did finally find a way to get that although it was very poor quality and I figured that I'd be able to down load the proper driver once on line, which I did do, although I'm not sure it was the right one, as dell doesn't seem to have anything for that model of pc. Anyway I also downloaded the Microsoft updates to get back to current for the secruity stuff. When that was done it required restart, which I did. When it restarted the monitor remained blank after the win. xp part was done loading. I know its on and that my pc is sitting there running, but I can't see anything. I restarted using F5 and tried; last known good configuration, vga mode, and safe mode. In the 1st 2 no monitor. In safemode the whole screen filled with a dos like line repeated over again to fill the whole screen, then a message came on that said, "stop!!! fatal error and I can't remember what else. Can you help? I guess I should mention that I don't have the right driver disk that came with the pc.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI replace my old LCD monitors (Dell 1905s) with new acer P223w's. I have a dual monitor display.I power off both monitors with one switch that cuts off the power. When I do this however, Windows makes the sound like a device has been disconnected and it messes up my monitor settings. This is very annoying and it didn't happen with my other monitors nor does it happen on my other Windows XP system with different monitors. It's like Windows is trying to be "smart" by thinking the monitor is gone. I do not want Windows to care if the monitor is powered off.

I am using an elderly 3M LCD projection panel on an overhead prjector for big screen Tv, driven by XP pro SP3. The panel has no controls for vertical/horizontal size and whatever monitor is used, an OS desktop fills the screen by default. I can resize the window for the TV viewing program in the normal way, just filling my projection screen, but the XP desktop is far too large.Does anyone know of a way to change the physical size of the desktop (including the taskbar) so that it sits in the LCD screen with a blank border all around, or maybe even make it custom resizeable as in a program window ( without changing the resolution)?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Gateway computer that’s about 4 years old running Windows 98. It includes a Gateway VGA monitor (model EV700). I had to reformat the hard drive and reinstall windows using their resource CD’s. Everything is fine now except the monitor will only display the lowest resolution settings. I have tried to change the resolution through the display icon in control panel, but it will not allow me to increase the resolution. I have even gone to the Gateway web site and download the latest driver for this monitor, but still have the same results.
As a result, the monitor will no longer display graphics of any kind while on the internet or while working with photo imaging software.
