After a windows reload some programs pop up off the screen to the left and cannot be seen. The second montor is to the right. Both work and display fine. How can I eliminate this phantom third screen? If anyone thinks they might have a solution I can provide more details.

My Acer XP screen cracked.I looked it up and was able to connect it to a different monitor by using the command: Fn then pressing F5 three times. It worked for the last few months, but Yesterday I accidentally hit the power cord of the monitor and it switched back to the laptop. I tried the command again but this time it didn't work.
Is there another command or something I could do to connect my laptop to the other monitor?

My work PC has 2 monitors, and my home PC has 1. When I connect to my work PC, I see only the primary monitor, which is what I want. I have a problem with a certain application though, it opens properly in the primary monitor, but has a dialog box that seems to be opening in the secondary monitor (I can't see it, but I am able "guess" my way around it with the keyboard). Is there any way to force everything onto the primary monitor?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am trying to go from a single monitor to a dual monitor. My present graphic card is integrated on to my motherboard. I have another old graphic card a PCI S3 Virge. The problem with this graphic card is that its driver is not supported by Windows XP.If I disable my graphic card on my motherboard.I can manage to get
this PCI graphic card to work.If I hook up both the graphic cards i.e. both of them are enabled, the computer does not manage to boot (except in safe mode.) It should also be mentioned that when my PCI card is plugged in the computer at time of booting uses it and not the monitor plugged into the graphic card attached to the motherboard. Is there a way to change this.I tried messing with i.e. all possible combinations of values in the BIOS, but nothing seems to work. I would be grateful if someone had some idea on what to try.
I recently set up dual monitors which has been such a help in my work, but a somewhat annoying feature is that my firefox and a few other programs insist in opening in the wrong monitor.I've tried closing them from the correct one, maximizing & closing, saving session (in FF), and other things but I'm out of ideas.
View 16 Replies View RelatedI run dual monitor at work, which is actually consisting a laptop (secondary) and a 19" LCD monitor as primary. Is there a way to have different wallpaper on each? There's gotta be a way, but I don't think you can using built-in Windows stuff. maybe there's a prog out there that would let you? Right now if you apply a wallpaper, applies to both screens.
View 7 Replies View RelatedWhen Windows adds a new monitor using the standard driver, can it detect the aspect ratio? When I hooked up mine, all the resolution choice were for 4:3 monitors. There were no widescreen options. It should choose the monitor's native resolution on its own if the monitor is an LCD.

Now we have a new tower to go with exisiting 24" monitor. My problem is I can not get a old standard VGA monitor to work with the old system listed above. When I plug in the the VGA monitor plug in the VGA outlet in the old computer I get no signal to the monitor. What do I need to do with drivers or other wise to get the old computer back to being able to be used with the old VGA monitor?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to install Windows XP as a second OS as I already have Windows 7 Ultimate installed. Unfortunately, after I select a partition, format it, and reboot the system stalls on the screen after the BIOS that has something to do with a list of devices and such. After 10 or so seconds a few characters and letters go blank randomly on the page. I rebooted and selected my cd drive as the boot device and accidentally didn't press a button in time to boot and a bunch of highlighted numbers were thrown all over the screen and a random smiley face on one of the lines.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to dual boot 2 different installs of xp pro from 2 drives using the Windows boot loader. I've edited the boot.ini every possible way I can think of, but nothing works. I've done this plenty of times using a linux boot loader or dual booting from a single drive but I cant figure this out. I haven't been able to find any reference to this subject anywhere, but I think it would work. Anybody have a clue as to how to do this? I know I can use a different boot manager to accomplish this, I just wanted to make the Win boot.ini work. Or, does anybody know of a good boot manager if I cant make this work?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI replace my old LCD monitors (Dell 1905s) with new acer P223w's. I have a dual monitor display.I power off both monitors with one switch that cuts off the power. When I do this however, Windows makes the sound like a device has been disconnected and it messes up my monitor settings. This is very annoying and it didn't happen with my other monitors nor does it happen on my other Windows XP system with different monitors. It's like Windows is trying to be "smart" by thinking the monitor is gone. I do not want Windows to care if the monitor is powered off.

System Control / Energy provides the possibility to define how long the

that possible?
I have dual booting on my PC with Vista home premium on a 500 Gb SATA disk and XP Pro on a 250Gb SATA, both internal. Vista no longer holds terrors for me and I'd like to get rid of XP and regain better use of the 250Gb HD. Can I just remove XP from the control panel in the XP boot or is it a lot more complicated?I don't really want to re format the XP drive as I'd have to transfer a lot of data and files
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have Win XP home installed as OEM software on the C drive of my PC.
I also have this OS as a Norton Ghost file supplied with the PC as a
"Recovery CD".
I have installed a second hard drive designated "D"
This all works fine.
I wish to install Win 2000 (which I have on a Microsoft cd) on the second HD.
I would then hope at boot - up to be given the choice of which OS to load.
Can anyone tell me what is the simplest way to do this?
I am running Windows XP and would really like to share the hard drive with another OS "Linux" and dual boot.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've got an HP notebook with Windows XP. I just went out and bought an s-video cable so I can use my TV as a second desktop, but I can't get the damn thing to work and now I want to kill. Here's what's happening: when I go into display properties and screw around with the 1 and 2 monitors and try to "extend my windows desktop", my monitor turns off for a second and the TV blinks like it wants to work, but then the monitor turns back on and the TV just stays blak. Same thing happens when I do the FN+F5 thing.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Gateway computer that’s about 4 years old running Windows 98. It includes a Gateway VGA monitor (model EV700). I had to reformat the hard drive and reinstall windows using their resource CD’s. Everything is fine now except the monitor will only display the lowest resolution settings. I have tried to change the resolution through the display icon in control panel, but it will not allow me to increase the resolution. I have even gone to the Gateway web site and download the latest driver for this monitor, but still have the same results.
As a result, the monitor will no longer display graphics of any kind while on the internet or while working with photo imaging software.

View 49 Replies View RelatedMy computer is having some trouble. When I try to boot it up I get nothing from the monitor(LCD). This happened a while back and all I did was took the power cord to the monitor out, and plugged it back in. It worked like that for 2 months or so. Today he calls me and he is having the same problem. So again I unplugged the cord and replugged it back in. I got signal but it immediately went blank again. It will only work for 1 second. What could be causing this do you think? I hooked up two other monitors to his computer also. One of them (older one not sure if it works 100%, wouldn't see why not) would BOOT up fine, then once you got to login it would go black, and do exactly what the LCD did. I could unplug it plug it back in for some video. Then I brought over my monitor. It works 100% and I didn't get any video at all with it. I tried other power cords/outlets etc. What do you guys think it could be?

Turned it on for the first time in a while the other day and the windows sign on screen is off the right and it is like I am on dual monitor. Can slide pointer to right and get to one side with startup menu then slide pointer back to left for icons. When put a screen saver on in tile mode, it duplicates it side by side but you have to scroll left to see both. Have gone into display and tried to change things but nothing works. When I go to settings, it shows only one monitor but says display [Multiple monitors} on silicon Motion LynxEM+.

I'm running windows Xp and i shut down my computer and restart it like your supposed to and then when i restart my monitor is blank yet i can hear all of the sounds of start up. So i shut it down again and i still come up with a blank screen and now i'm using a external monitor to view my desktop. Now when i look at my laptops monitor i can vaguely see what i'm doing at all and the external monitor is fine. Also my laptop is creating alot of heat.

Is there a feature in the display properties that allows you to zoom in and out? There is a missing width about as wide as two taskbars around the whole screen.
