Single Dual Monitor Setup
Jun 30, 2005
My work PC has 2 monitors, and my home PC has 1. When I connect to my work PC, I see only the primary monitor, which is what I want. I have a problem with a certain application though, it opens properly in the primary monitor, but has a dialog box that seems to be opening in the secondary monitor (I can't see it, but I am able "guess" my way around it with the keyboard). Is there any way to force everything onto the primary monitor?

I have dual booting on my PC with Vista home premium on a 500 Gb SATA disk and XP Pro on a 250Gb SATA, both internal. Vista no longer holds terrors for me and I'd like to get rid of XP and regain better use of the 250Gb HD. Can I just remove XP from the control panel in the XP boot or is it a lot more complicated?I don't really want to re format the XP drive as I'd have to transfer a lot of data and files

Due to a corrupt system file I did a repair using Recovery console. PC came back up with a few problems. Uninstalled most applications and Service Pack 2 and reinstalled. I have now noticed that my Athlon XP2 dual core processor is only running as one processor. In device manager it shows both processors and when the PC boots up it recognises that its a dual core processor. Yet when I run the Athlon utility that reports back processor information it only shows the one processor. Tried uninstalling the processors through device manager but nothing happens.Does anybody have any ideas how to fix this before I do a reinstall of windows?

problem is single-screen games. When launching a game, I would want for the 2nd monitor to stay on desktop and not get "included" in the game. Included as in going into standby / power saving mode. Can this be bypassed? I understand it must be quite impossible to use the mouse on the 2nd monitor while in-game on the 1st monitor, but I would at least want to see the desktop and the real-time programs that are running there (virus scanners, time, IRC etc.).
When I exit the game, or alt-tab, the 2nd monitor automatically returns from power save and all is normal.
Some specs if needed:
GF 8800GT 512
Core2Duo E6600
LG Flatron L1953TR as 1st monitor
LG Flatron L1952TQ as 2nd
WIN XP Pro SP3

Can anybody point me to the instructions about how to install XP Pro to a single Win98 hard drive - to make it dual boot, like Win 2k? I've been looking all around the internet and the only thing I've found is an XP dual boot on a 2nd hard drive.

My Acer XP screen cracked.I looked it up and was able to connect it to a different monitor by using the command: Fn then pressing F5 three times. It worked for the last few months, but Yesterday I accidentally hit the power cord of the monitor and it switched back to the laptop. I tried the command again but this time it didn't work.
Is there another command or something I could do to connect my laptop to the other monitor?

I am trying to go from a single monitor to a dual monitor. My present graphic card is integrated on to my motherboard. I have another old graphic card a PCI S3 Virge. The problem with this graphic card is that its driver is not supported by Windows XP.If I disable my graphic card on my motherboard.I can manage to get
this PCI graphic card to work.If I hook up both the graphic cards i.e. both of them are enabled, the computer does not manage to boot (except in safe mode.) It should also be mentioned that when my PCI card is plugged in the computer at time of booting uses it and not the monitor plugged into the graphic card attached to the motherboard. Is there a way to change this.I tried messing with i.e. all possible combinations of values in the BIOS, but nothing seems to work. I would be grateful if someone had some idea on what to try.

I recently set up dual monitors which has been such a help in my work, but a somewhat annoying feature is that my firefox and a few other programs insist in opening in the wrong monitor.I've tried closing them from the correct one, maximizing & closing, saving session (in FF), and other things but I'm out of ideas.

I run dual monitor at work, which is actually consisting a laptop (secondary) and a 19" LCD monitor as primary. Is there a way to have different wallpaper on each? There's gotta be a way, but I don't think you can using built-in Windows stuff. maybe there's a prog out there that would let you? Right now if you apply a wallpaper, applies to both screens.

Only the PCI video card shows signal..I tried un-installing both cards, redoing it from ground up, tried disabling and renabling both cards but only one monitor shows up and that is the PCI card.

Does anyone know if it is possible, or has done, a dual-boot setup of Win XP Pro and Win MCE (2005)? I'm curious to know if it is possible and if so, what is the best way to go about it and any potential problems. My current setup is I have a Athlon 64 3800+ with 1TB RAID 0 running Win XP Pro. I have partitioned the OS onto C: with 50GB and left the rest as general storage for the moment. I also have a digital TV tuner card, which is why I'm thinking of installing MCE.

I had a Win 98 SE PC on a 20 GB drive (FAT32), and then I decided to ad an 80 GB and install Win XP. Since I wanted to maintain some Win 98 function compatibility, I opted for dual-boot, formatting my 80GB HD to NTFS and installing all of the Win XP OS into that drive. The Win 98 runs fine and is limited to the 20GB FAT32 HD, while the Win XP can see both drives but its files and programs are contained in the 80GB NTFS HD.
Now that I have deemed the Win 98 OS no longer necessary for this machine - I am trying to figure out how to make my machine boot from the XP HD (I plan to format the 20GB disk and use it for back-up storage

I'm going to build a new computer. It will have a new 500 GB Seagate 7200.11 32 MB cache. I want to reuse my current 500 GB Samsung Spinpoint 7200 RPM 16 MB cache, which is currently used only for backup storage. What's the best way to have both XP and Vista on the new computer (which is also possible to do)?Vista on the new Seagate; XP on the the old Samsung (will all my files be wiped out during the installation?)The reverse of the above XP on 100GB partition on the new Seagate; Vista on the remaining 400GB; use the old Samsung as I have been all this time. XP will only be used to run Internet Explorer 6 and minimal web design tools.

I have two hard drives, both of them with Win 2000 Pro. The First has been the master in machine one from the start. The second HDD has been in machine twoand that machine has crashed so bad that it is not worth the time, energy or money to fix it. This second HDD has important data on it that is only accessable through older programs that are only on this drive. (It is a church membership data base program and a church financial record program) I have the added problem that no one in the office has a clue where the install disk are for these programs and they are not where they are suppose to be (this was before my time). I would like to place the second HDD in the first machine and set up a dual boot so the user can choose which drive to operate from. There is the added problem that the computers only have a restore disk that came from Dell and not a full Win 2000 Pro CD.

A week ago I had some malware crap going on and was going to reinstall windows. The windows XP setup crashed partway through (was having some hardware malfunctions too so the comp crashed). I fired windows back up and found Malwarebytes. Ran it and it got rid of the malware and I was back to functional windows with no issues. Now at startup, I have a dual boot selection between Windows XP (which works normal) and the windows XP setup. How do I get rid of the Windows XP setup option so that it loads into WinXP normal?

In the past, I have used the S-video port (with RCA adapter) in a dual view setup with my TV. I recently reinstalled Windows XP and now I can't get the secondary display (the TV) to work correctly. I just get a bunch of black & white lines moving up the screen (looks like bad reception/static on a TV). The weird thing is that the TV displays everything fine during the bootup process, including the loading screen with the Windows XP logo. Full color and everything. It's when Windows actually starts that the TV freaks out. Another weird thing is if I use nVidia's TV setup Wizard and select "Span," the image on the TV actually stabilizes. But I am forced to keep a low resolution on the monitor (which wasn't the case before I reinstalled XP), and as soon as I make any other changes the TV goes back to freaking out.

I have a system which was initially set up a while ago as a dual boot, Win98SE/Win2K. I had a need for the Win98SE side of things then, but now that has gone but the Win98SE partition is the boot of course.I want to be able to do away with the Win98SE partition completely and ideally add the space to the Win2K one, maybe leave it as a clean NTFS partition if that makes things easier. This would mean that I would end up with a drive with a single boot partition holding Win2K. This of course is not a trivial process as the drive letter of the boot partition will need to change. (I do want that drive letter change incidentally).
