Task Bar - Reboot Get Different Programs Automatically Started
Apr 3, 2006
Every time I re-boot I get different programs automatically started and placed on the task bar (Lower right on the screen). Certain programs always start, others start at different times - very confusing. Changing the start up table doesn't seem to affect the situation.
My computer started deleting files. A DOS window popped up and began systematically deleting programs and files. I was able to stop it by turning off the computer. When I turned on the computer again the random deleting had stopped, but I had lost my music files and my mail files. If this wasn't a virus, what else could cause this to happen?
on starting up pc the task bar freezes for approx 15mins & only the egg timer is showing, can access desktop icons, however not all programs launch on task bar. what appears to be the issue, is it hardware or software
I read almost all those topic about xp reboot but it didn't helped.I have got windows Xp.When I work for something the mouse stops somewhere. And the computer will be started.
My computer have following problem, can you please give me some advise how to fix it ? when connect to boardband (cable modem), the computer hang up or sometime reboot automately. (if disconnect boardband the computer work fine) Also IF use 56K dail up to connect internet, there is no problem at all.
What would cause the task bar settings to change? ie: the ability to view inactive icons disappears. Can not access the volume control. A reboot sets it back up with the ability to view inactive task bar functions through the expand task bar icon.
Can someone tell me how to reboot a Win 2000 computer using a scheduled task? I have found posts that suggest using shutdown.exe in the System32 folder, but no such file exists on these computers. I have used shutdown.exe -r -t 00 successfully on our XP computers. There is no Windows folder, instead a WinNt folder.
When I start PC, it automatically takes me to the startup options part to reboot in safe mode, safe mode w/ networking, safemode w/ prompt, last known good config, & normal startup. Getting Stop c0000218 {Registry File Failure} The registry cannot load the hive (file) SystemRootSystem32Config
there are a few programs that automatically start when I start up my computer. Now ive run acrossed it before but now I can't find it and I was wondering how I get those things from automatically starting.
my computer has started to close programs automatically after 5 to 10 minutes. this includes games, java programs and sometimes even norton. im not too sure why this is happening. I recently installed a new fan into my computer with LED lights, could it be because of this?
my family have damaged the computer in some way that im not sure about. I do not know whether its a virus or something else. On startup, all the programs that run automatically fail to and the "Program not responding" message is displayed for each one, and programs continue try to open to no effect. Any program which i try opening after that also has this problem. When i look at the task manager, no processes are given any memory usage.
I have an XP Pro and I know there is some place I can go to remove all of the darn icons in the lower right hand corner. All I need there is my fire wall and my antivirus. It takes so darn long for the computer to boot and wondering if this is part of the problem. If I just delete them are they still running in the background some where?
2005 MCE WIN XP, if i go to START, ALL PROGRAMS, and scan thru my programs, the amount of time to scroll thru programs is about 3-4 seconds, before it closes out, also RENAMING a folder, on desktop, same thing happens, for instance, renaming a folder PICTURES, i get to PIC, then it kicks me out. I have OPtical wireless mouse, replaced batteries with fully charged ones, no difference, also mouse 12 inches from reciever.
It got infected with Windows Police Pro. After disabling that, there are several 'remnants' left over. The only way I can run any spyware/malware removal programs is to install it fresh. The program(s) will open, then it'll shut down 2 seconds into the scan. It even shuts down my registry cleaner as soon as it begins to clean (after it finds all the errors). All these programs simply terminate themselves. It does this in SafeMode as well.
Every time I turn on my computer it will load and everything everything is ok...But when it load my programs in the beggining some programs won't show up on my task bar such as DAP ( Download Accelerator Plus ) and my volume contols When I close and start the program again it will appear again on my task bar. Also when i restart it will all appear no problem... I never USED to have this
Lately alot of my programs are (not responding). I've run virus scan, defrag, scandisk, Spybot, Ad-aware, you name it. Searched web and only find answers related to single programs, yet ALOT of my programs are not responding. At one point I could not get Task Manager to come up to end non-responding program.
I had this computer for a year or so and about month ago,the little boxes on the blue taskbar at the bottom of the screen stopped showing up I can still open the windows with the ctrl alt delete command to open the task manager, but theres no way to switch between two open windows without that.
I am using XP on my PC at home and am having a problem with keeping open programs available on my task bar. I can open a website ok but if I need to open a second website the first one no longer appears accessible on the task bar. The only way I can get back to website #1 is by using the back arrow. Also if I close the second website the first one closes at the same time. I frequently need to go between two or more websites when working online and not having the link available is inconvenient at best. How can I set my computer so that all open websites will appear on the taskbar?
I don't know much about computers but I seem to be having a lot of disc activity since changing my hard drive and reinstalling windows xp. I've been to windows task manager & have enabled I/O Read Bytes & I/O Write bytes. When I'm doing nothing the following 3 programs are constantly changing. I've been online for about 3 hours now & these are the approximate figures:
Today is the 1st time my firewall reporeted that lsass requested internet access though this disc activity has been noticable since doing the reinstall.
When I start Windows XP, after the desktop loads, the "Programs" file opens automatically. This just started happening out of the blue and happens with every start up.
when I click on task manager it only shows the running task window. it used to have a list of all startup stuff and a thing where I could look at a graph of cpu usage, but those are not there anymore
I am trying to create a task using Task Scheduler, and it asks me to "set account information". I am given three boxes. One of them, marked Run as has "COMPUTERJesse" already filled in. The other two are marked Password and Confirm Password. This is odd, because I am running under an Admin account (yes, generally not smart, but I'm smarter than the average bear when it comes to computers, so I feel confident I'm not going to mess it up with downloading viruses and such
I clicked OK to get out of the "Set Account Information" box, and in the entry for my task, the Status is listed as "Could not Start", Last Result is "0x0", and Creator is "Jesse". how can I get Task Scheduler to run the task and most of all, obey my authori-tah?
I have a Dell Dimension E510 PC, Windows XP, only 2 years old. It was working just fine, and then at restart I got message windows cannot start, file system32/root/hal.dll missing or corrupt. I tried doing a windows recovery with installation cd, but it wouldn't even find the windows installation. So, I wanted to do a clean installation, the quick formatting says it cannot do it, the long formatting took hours and at the end said it cannot reformat due to corrupt or damaged hard drive. I tried again to restore, but aftercopying the files and checking the c: drive, it says it cannot create the folder windows/system32/ras and gets hung there. Now, when I reboot I get that that another file in windows is missing or corrupt. When it shows the partitions it shows d: as the one with the most space and c: as one with a lot less space. Does anyone know how to get my system back up, even if it deletes all of my previous files. Thank you very much for your time and effort. I'm really frustrated after trying to fix it for 2 days
I had to format a Dell C600 Laptop drive and used the a XP Pro SP2 Reinstalation CD The install went fine but a couple of odd things;A user was not created even though I had entered the information during the install, after install, I am logged in as an Admin inistratorNow when I am in, all automatic services are not running and stopped. When I try to manuall start and get different errors for every service.I cannot get to MSConfig, I get an error that it does not exist.I cannot install drivers because I get a RSC message just reformatted another Dell with success I cannot find a solution anywhere, can someone please assist?
I tried this under the Security label, thinking Trojan or Malware, but have had no response, so I'm trying here. XP Home PC runs properly until it is connected to the Internet, and svchost.exe uses 98% of the CPU. The problem does not happen when Windows Update is switched off - but happens again when connected to the WWW and Windows Update is connected. Programs will load from Desktop icons but Taskbar freezes. I have run antivirus, anti adware, Windows Defender, nothing found. a lot about this on the Net but not simple enough for this wrinkly. Your help will be most welcome.
I have never been good at understanding how to successfully run defragmentation. I know it's a good idea to do so on occasion so it keeps your computer in tip-top shape but in all the systems I've had in the past, Windows 95 and Windows 98, it just seemed like it never would complete. AND it took forever!
You'd see the percentage of it increasing and then all of a sudden, it started over. I'd have everything "closed" but I guess there were applications running in the background.
