my family have damaged the computer in some way that im not sure about. I do not know whether its a virus or something else. On startup, all the programs that run automatically fail to and the "Program not responding" message is displayed for each one, and programs continue try to open to no effect. Any program which i try opening after that also has this problem. When i look at the task manager, no processes are given any memory usage.
I cannot get my IE to respond to UNsecure sites. Works great with secure sites. Neither will some programs update. Also MSN messenger will not see an internet connection. I am using dial up here.. I know, but nothing else is available here. My ISP is AOL. I had Earthlink free for 6 months when I got my computer, at the same time I had AOL, both worked fine with each other installed. AFTER I installed Earthlink Accellerator IE would no longer work with aol. Mozilla still works good as ever. I have spybot, adaware, and have cleared all history, etc. in IE. Does anyone have any idea what my problem is. I have contacted Dell, AOL, Earthlink and done what they said, no one can help me. I found something on the net about a guy that had the same prob. one time and he had to change something in the registry.
Well ever since I installed Bitdefender 9, it seems that my computer has gone slow. It starts up quick and all but its when i'm browsing, or choosing to bring up another program on the toolbar, or to start a new program. Its like the programs arn't responding and then I eventually have to wait for everything to work again, its a real pain in the butt because I tried deleting Bitdefender and it won't let me because i get a "Write to folder C:WINDOWSInstaller" message and same with ANY other program I try to uninstall in Add/Remove Programs.
Is there somewhere to look (like event viewer??) when this error comes up.It does not always happen ..why is that ??as the same programs are always running.Could it relate too not enough memory?Have done all the usual defrag,Adaware,Norton scan, etc.
Have been having problem lately w/ alot of my programs freezing up w/ Not Responding noted in task manager and have to close program. Have defragged, ad aware, and spybotted to no avail. I've looked thru threads but can't seem to find cure. Do alot of work w/ PS elements and performance has slowed considerably. Also Roxio DVD creator freezes almost everytime I use it now. Dell w/ P-4,512 RAM,XP home. Ran Pitstop and it highlighted fact that CPU usage was @ 30 while idle. No viruses etc. found when I run Norton, but would note that when I run Liveupdate that it is unable to install "symantec redirector" update. Thoughts or ideas?

I have 4 sign in's including the administrator, when I log in under the administrator, no programs or icons respond, including My Computer. Under the other log in's, they do respond but I do not have access to make changes or to see my data to back it up. I managed to install Norton Antivirus from DOS and cleaned up a few viruses but programs will still not respond. Should I reinstall XP, would I loose my data ? Also I can not find my XP disk but do have the package with the key, can you download another version and input the key?
Lately alot of my programs are (not responding). I've run virus scan, defrag, scandisk, Spybot, Ad-aware, you name it. Searched web and only find answers related to single programs, yet ALOT of my programs are not responding. At one point I could not get Task Manager to come up to end non-responding program.
When i start shutting down pc it shows every program "Not Responding" and then it shots it closing. And for every program like that. Auto EndTask is 1 but still it Shows how tasks ends.2.When pc is already at "windows shutdown" stage then sometimes comes svcadmin.exe Installation failed.
My laptop has just decided to run very slowly of late.So much so that I am unable to run certain programs. Some will load up but if you try and navigate through any screens etc the program will stop working (comes up with not responding in windows task manager). This is even happening with windows explorer.I've got Norton 360, which although it should automatically boot up at start up is failing to do so.I can't even get it to run to perfom a system scan. This leads me to think I may have a nasty virus or worse still failing hardware
I am running on windows XP SP2 integrated. I realised that whenever I start my PC,windows does not respond(i.e. when I click on my internet explorer and all other applications / programs, they do not respond).I have to wait for at least 10-15 mins or restart 2 to 3 times, then windows can respond.I really do not know what is going on.I have scanned my PC with noadware but found nothing.Should I reformat my PC or perform a system restore? I am currenting using Intel Pentium III processor with 801 MHz,256MB of RAM.
there are a few programs that automatically start when I start up my computer. Now ive run acrossed it before but now I can't find it and I was wondering how I get those things from automatically starting.
my computer has started to close programs automatically after 5 to 10 minutes. this includes games, java programs and sometimes even norton. im not too sure why this is happening. I recently installed a new fan into my computer with LED lights, could it be because of this?
I have an XP Pro and I know there is some place I can go to remove all of the darn icons in the lower right hand corner. All I need there is my fire wall and my antivirus. It takes so darn long for the computer to boot and wondering if this is part of the problem. If I just delete them are they still running in the background some where?
Every time I re-boot I get different programs automatically started and placed on the task bar (Lower right on the screen). Certain programs always start, others start at different times - very confusing. Changing the start up table doesn't seem to affect the situation.
2005 MCE WIN XP, if i go to START, ALL PROGRAMS, and scan thru my programs, the amount of time to scroll thru programs is about 3-4 seconds, before it closes out, also RENAMING a folder, on desktop, same thing happens, for instance, renaming a folder PICTURES, i get to PIC, then it kicks me out. I have OPtical wireless mouse, replaced batteries with fully charged ones, no difference, also mouse 12 inches from reciever.
It got infected with Windows Police Pro. After disabling that, there are several 'remnants' left over. The only way I can run any spyware/malware removal programs is to install it fresh. The program(s) will open, then it'll shut down 2 seconds into the scan. It even shuts down my registry cleaner as soon as it begins to clean (after it finds all the errors). All these programs simply terminate themselves. It does this in SafeMode as well.
When I start Windows XP, after the desktop loads, the "Programs" file opens automatically. This just started happening out of the blue and happens with every start up.
I just recently bought a laptop and i'm trying to update it to SP2 but i always get this error Error Code: FFFFFC06 so it stop there and do nothing else.
I presently have 4 computers 2 old and in the process of being replaced and 2 new, the replacements. For some time now, I have noticed that updates were failing to install on one of the old computers. I fiddled with it a bit but wasn't too concerned as I had plans to replace it. I now have 2 newer computers that have been set up and one of them, after installing a number of updates, repeatedly tries to update XP then gives me a message that.
I'm a college student with a Macbook Pro running Boot Camp and running WinXP natively. Just yesterday, I got an error right in one of my classes saying I had a corrupt system file and said to reinstall or repair. So, I pop in the WinXP cd and repair Windows and go through the whole process of fixing Windows. Once I get through it all, I go to Microsoft Update just to find out I have a ton of updates to install. (91!) I had to install Installer 3.0 and it installed successfully and I restarted. I go to install the rest of the updates and Microsoft update downloads all the updates and when it goes to update....they ALL fail. Every last one fails. All 91! I don't understand what is going on.I heard somewhere that you need to uninstall all .NET things so I did that. Still didn't work.Someone said to stop AutoUpdate and clean out the SoftwareDistribution folder and start up AutoUpdate again. Still didn't work.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Installer 3.0, thinking it might be the problem. Uninstall is fine, but when I go to download and install, IT TOO FAILS TO INSTALL So, now I'm 92 updates down.I was told to go check my update history on the Windows Update website. It has no record of any failed updates. I tried multiple times to install with failed attempts and the history has no record of me failing to install anything. So, that basically means I have no error code to find through that. Can anyone please help me? I need my laptop for school for engineering stuff because they don't make the programs for Mac. Thanks everyone.
Im new on this site and I would like to ask you if you could kindly help me with my problem.here is the issue: Im using Windows XP SP3 (installation of SP3 not the reason of the issue, cos it started before) and since few weeks back, maybe 1-2 months, the automatic windows updates are downloaded absolutely without any problems, but fails the installation every time.any idea why? I dont know which of my installed software could cause this, but maybe its just some system settings(which I havent touch).
I have this computer with Windows XP Service Pack 1.I am installing the patches and everytime the installation fails.Any procedure to follow in order to SUCCESSFULLY install the patches.
I recently had motherboard problems with my computer.Swapped the motherboard for one given to me off a forum. The problem now is that on boot I get past the windows splash and get the BSOD.The error code was just a hex code for which google was not my friend.I could boot in safe mode (without cmd prompt or networking only), but I could not work out what the problem was.I have compounded the issue by using the XP install disc to perform a repair. All that has done is made it so i cannot boot in safe mode at all now due to the setup restriction with safe mode.I believe this is all to do with motherboard drivers that I need to fix.I probably need help in canceling the repair, and how to clean out the existing drivers.I have in the meantime installed Ubuntu to allow access to attempt repair.I would prefer not to have to do a full reinstallation if could be avoided.
Here is my problem:When I started my computer a couple of days ago the screen stayed black and had the mouse pointer on it. I waited a few minutes but nothing happened. I rebooted and the same thing happened. I hit restart and pressed the Esc key ant the system started to post and stopped. This message came up Warning: System boot fail. Your system boot fail or post interrupted. Please enter setup to load default settings and reboot again.I pressed F1 and setup looked to be in order so I exited and rebooted. When that message came up I hit F2 and the system booted up ok. I tried restoring to a few different dates but that didnt solve the problem. I also made sure that I have the latest video card drivers and monitor drivers. The system wont start in safe mode either.
Ok so I custom built my computer from parts I had at home and completed it and was having problems getting it to boot at home. So I worked on it for a while and did get it to boot. So thus I packed it up and brought it to college. when I set up my computer in the dorm and turned it on it went to the phoenix bios screen then didnt detect my hardrive and thus failed to boot. After a couple of minutes in BIOS I got it to reconigze my HD adn I rebooted. On the Phoniex BIOS screen it gave me these errors:
It then allowed me to hit f1 to continue which I did and it displayed this error Hooking bootstrap interupt 18h... After this it fails to do anything. I have gotten to the point where it doesn't display the first 2 errors I mentioned through replacing the CMOS battery and disabling anything to do with floppy in the BIOS but it sometimes still displays the Hooking bootstrap error and has yet to actually load windows. The screen just goes black and the computer makes a constant hum like its actually doing something. I have switched IDE cables and don't have a windows xp cd for about another week when my parents come up.
