Trying To Install / Error: Stuck On Setup Is Inspecting

Jul 6, 2010

I have been having problems when i tried reverting from windows 7 back to Windows XP Home Edition. At first i was able to get to windows setup (Blue screen) when i had the disc and partitioned to install the XP Disc. The computer restarted and i get to "press any key to continue (with the disc)" and i do so and it says "set up is inspecting your computers hardware" and then screen turns black and nothing appears. When i take the disc out it says "Error Loading Operating System". I can't really do much of anything now. Only screen i can get to is f1 to the "bios setup utility".I have an HP a450n.. Really need help i been wanting to use XP again because windows 7 annoyed me because it lagged my games. it has ran windows xp before and worked very good as well as for the games.

Install Hangs At Setup Is Inspecting Hardware

Aug 25, 2008

I have used the search facility to try and find a result to this problem but alas to no avail.I have had XP pro in this desktop before so I know it's compatible. Recently I decided to upgrade to Vista but decided that it wasn't for me and have tried to downgrade back to XP.On first try with XP pro setup bootdisk I got by said problem and got to the format/partition bit but got error message saying unable to load operating system half way through install. I figured it could be because i didn't set up boot in bios properly using bootup selector instead and upon restart during install it tried to boot from hd.

So restarted and sorted bios selection out but now get this wierd problem, being on ANY install disk of XP (I have a few) it jams after "setup is inspecting your computers hardware" i.e. blank screen and nothing happening. I've tried unplugging everything and leaving only cd-rom, hard-drive and monitor/keyboard/gfx card and mouse connected but all to no avail. The drive I'm trying to install to is a samsung 150gb hard drive partitioned to 20gb and 130gb respectively with data still on the 130gb section that i'd like to keep. The most interesting thing is that the Vista disk that I have installs fine without problem which is how I'm writing this.

Hangs At Setup Is Inspecting Computers Hardware Configuration

May 18, 2010

While trying to install Windows XP, my computer hangs at the “Please wait, setup is inspecting your computer’s hardware configuration” screen. This happens while trying to install either Windows XP Home or Windows XP Pro (both of which are original CDs), as well as a slipstreamed sp3 copy of XP. So I installing XP on an older computer I have and then put that hard drive back into the computer with the trouble, turned the system on and it hangs at either the black screen or at the F8 boot options screen when I press the F8 key.I checked the connections, tried stripping the computer hardware down to just a several year old CD / DVD drive, graphics card, 1 hard drive, and floppy. When that gave the same results, I tried every hardware arrangement I could think of; several different hard drives IDE and SATA (internal) ranging from 40GB’s to 500GB’s, slave / master / cable / select and the wire or port selection, 2 DVD drives (internal / external), together and in combinations for both the hard dives and the DVD drives, pulling out or unplugging all other connections (Ethernet, USB, TV-card, and floppy drive), and changed the placement and number of memory sticks. I also changed the monitors and all of this gave the same results.

I played with various settings of the main board jumpers and from within CMOS. I under clocked and over clocked the memory, CPU, and north bridge as well as changing the voltage, individually and together; manually and automatically. I set the optimized defaults and reset the Bios, both from within the CMOS and pulling the plug or with the jumper. I enabled everything and disabled everything that I could get away with. Even run the boot up Virus scan utility. Some of these would not let the system post properly, however the those that would allow me to post gave my the same system hanging problems with XP.With the exception of adding a couple of hard drives, changing out a DVD drive, adding a couple of USB devices, different OS’s and some CMOS settings; the system is the same as when it used to run XP Pro fine about a little over a year ago. Though I do remember that XP was fussy about starting up with trying to over clock the CPU to anything with the memory running at stock settings and so I was left with having to use the automatic settings (which I used the lite or medium settings). As for the other OS’s, I am currently running Windows 7rc (which runs fine). I’ve ran MSDOS 6.22 (via bootable CD), Ubuntu Linux v10.04, and Mandrake Linux (I believe v6. something). All of these installed and ran fine. However Windows 95, Windows 95 OEM, Windows 98, and the Windows 98 sp2 installation CD’s just went to black screen and froze. On some site sometime ago, I heard that you will sometimes run into conflicts if the north bridge chipset is from an Opposing graphics vendor than the Graphics Card that you are using which is the case in my system, an ATI chipset with an nVidia Video Card. Though I have no idea that is source of my problem or not and the only other video card that my system I think will take is an old Voodoo3 or 4, 3d Card.

HP Laptop With Stuck In Reboot Cycle / Error Encountered That Prevents Setup From Continuing

Jan 12, 2009

A friend of mine gave me an HP Pavilion ze4400. It had Windows XP installed on it when he gave it to me. I moved out of the area and forgot to take the XP CD with me. I was having problems with picking up wireless networks using my USB wireless adapter. Uninstalling and reinstalling the program for the adapter didn't fix anything, in fact, it made it worse. So I thought I would try using an XP CD to correct the problems that way. I had no idea that XP CDs weren't all the same.I put the CD that I had for my IBM laptop in the HP and it started to install. After about 10 minutes or so, I got a "Fatal Error":"An error has been encountered that prevents Setup from continuing. One of the components that Windows needs to continue setup could not be installed. The operation was canceled by the user.Press OK to view the Setup log file"The Systel Setup Log:"Error:The signature for Windows XP Home Edition Upgrade is invalid. Setup Is Formating... Is Stuck At 0%?

Mar 27, 2006

I am running Windows XP Professional and have been having problems for several weeks now. I got the dreaded blue screen... was on the phone with Microsoft tecs for 3 hrs one day and then 5 hrs another and they thought that they had it taken care of. They didn't do a total replace, just a repair so that I could backup some information I hadn't backed up yet. I was able to run windows XP Professional again but the tec told me that I needed to do all the updates. As soon as I updated to SP2 I got the blue screen again.
I did a repair with my cd and was able to get Windows XP Professional back up. As soon as I installed the updates and updated to SP2 and restarted I got the blue screen again.
I decided to format and reinstall instead of repair. I followed the instructions and it is now stuck on the screen where it says setup is formatting... 0%. What should I do next?

Users Try To Install Fax Client / Setup Hangs Asking For Fx Setup Files

Aug 20, 2005

I've setup Windows 2003 fax services on a W2K3 server and shared the device. I've tested faxing from Word on my PC and it works fine. However, when other users try to install the fax client, the setup hangs asking for the fx* setup files. I've tried different XPSP2 CDs, copying the files to a local directory, making sure that the users have local admin rights (and even domain admin rights) but to no avail. The files are already in the system32 directory so in theory the setup doesn't even need to copy them. Even if I delete them, it doesn't work. Our corporate SMS team reckons that there isn't any policy which could
cause the problem.

I just installed sp2 but forgot that there was a third service pack. Started the install sp3, 2 or 3 hours later. It appears to be stuck on the stage of "running processes after install". I have gone all over the internet looking for a proper answer to what I should do.I have terminated a few processes that are not needed at the moment. e.g. Google Toolbar something something, iTunes Helper and iPod service. I feel the solution is to end a certain process somewhere but have no idea which one. The cancel button is also grayed out and I am updating through windows update. The computer is not completely frozen. I can still open other windows and move the mouse.

Now these files are stuck in the Recycle Bin. these won't delete, and I get a message saying "Cannot remove folder Dc3 (or Dc2, Dc4). Access is denied." The files also won't restore back to the My Music folder, either. since I tried to delete them in the middle of the update process (I was getting an errror message whenver SP3 got to the Beethoven sample), that this somehow locked them out.

Inspecting Hardware Freezing

Sep 12, 2007

Everythings hooked up correctly and plugged in so i try to install windows xp pro and everytime i try to choose install from cd it hangs on the inspecting hardware screen. sometimes it'll hang and other times it'll just go to a black screen. Everything checks correctly as being found, like the cd drive, hard drive, shows up on the first screen where it shows u the memory count, etc. Its a SATA seagate drive 160 gb. I've swapped cables, even power connections, and still nothing would fix this. I'm thinking ok well it might be the board or something wrong there with the SATA connection, so i install a SATA pci card and try it with that, but i still get the same message freeze with inspecting hardware. So im really hoping someone can help me here with my problem and make me able to get my new comp here working. thanks in advance for any help. my motherboard is a gigabyte, ga-ma69vm-s2 and im using an amd 64x2 dual core 3800+. memory is 1gb (2x512) ddr2 dual channel, pny.

Stuck Loading Screen After HD Install On Older Inspiron

Feb 2, 2009

Let me quickly start by noting that I have familiarized and comprehensively searched every forum for assistance on this issue, and have attempted multiple fixes for the following problem. That said, if anyone absolutely knows what my problem is, and if is addressed elsewhere, please direct me. If not, thank you VERY MUCH in advance for your help!History: 30 GB HD filled up on Fiance's Inspiron 1100. I purchased a compatible 60 GB HD, enclosure, and then I cloned the original HD to the larger one. Then, after restarting the computer with the original drive still in the case, the computer failed to boot. So, after attempting to fix the original boot issue, I physically installed the new, 60 GB HD with the cloned drive on it. The computer fired right up. I was elated. Then I ran defrag. Not a good Idea.Defrag crashed at about 40% complete. I attempted to reboot the computer, to no avail. The computer seems to boot fine, but then gets stuck permanently at the Windows XP loading screen. The loading bar moves, the mouse moves, yada yada. Nothing else. I CAN boot in safe mode, and access all my files (which i DID backup first). However, I want the damn thing to work, considering I just bought the new HD and the computer otherwise worked just fine.I ran CHKDSK from the recovery console, which found errors, but did no good. Then I ran CHKDSK /r, which took about 24 hours to complete. Errors found, some "unrecoverable," to no avail.I cannot access my system startup BIOS w/F2 (or any other key) during startup, no matter how early i start to tap the key. That is strange to me. Thus, I cannot boot from the XP CD.What do you all think my options are? The HD is physically OK, I think. The fact that safemode seems to function pretty flawlessly is a good sign, right?
I have read to use bartPE to correct the registry. I have read to reinstall (?) the BIOS. I am ready to re-format the HD and re-install XP, but I'm not sure how to do this, or if I can do this via DOS or the recovery console, as again, I cannot access the system startup settings to change the boot sequence.Again, at this point, is there a way to fix this? If not, can I sweep off the HD and re-install XP? How might I do that?
