When i tried to format the hard drive, when it said "setup is formatting" it gets stuck at 0%. What is the problem bcuz all my hardware is new? Ive tried switching the jumper, and the hard drive is new. Also, when i try to format it says 152625mb Disk 0 at id, o on bus, o n atapi(MBR). If anyone has a clue what is wrong, reply to my thread. I am running Windows XP Professional and have been having problems for several weeks now. I got the dreaded blue screen... was on the phone with Microsoft tecs for 3 hrs one day and then 5 hrs another and they thought that they had it taken care of. They didn't do a total replace, just a repair so that I could backup some information I hadn't backed up yet. I was able to run windows XP Professional again but the tec told me that I needed to do all the updates. As soon as I updated to SP2 I got the blue screen again. I did a repair with my cd and was able to get Windows XP Professional back up. As soon as I installed the updates and updated to SP2 and restarted I got the blue screen again. I decided to format and reinstall instead of repair. I followed the instructions and it is now stuck on the screen where it says setup is formatting... 0%. What should I do next?
I am trying to reinstal my WIN XP but when I reach the near end of "Installing Windows" at 9 minutes the setup won't go any further it looks like it is stuck on Registering Components. I don't get in errors or anything like in some other cases that i read. Here is a picture that might help resolving the matter.
I have been having problems when i tried reverting from windows 7 back to Windows XP Home Edition. At first i was able to get to windows setup (Blue screen) when i had the disc and partitioned to install the XP Disc. The computer restarted and i get to "press any key to continue (with the disc)" and i do so and it says "set up is inspecting your computers hardware" and then screen turns black and nothing appears. When i take the disc out it says "Error Loading Operating System". I can't really do much of anything now. Only screen i can get to is f1 to the "bios setup utility".I have an HP a450n.. Really need help i been wanting to use XP again because windows 7 annoyed me because it lagged my games. it has ran windows xp before and worked very good as well as for the games.
A friend of mine gave me an HP Pavilion ze4400. It had Windows XP installed on it when he gave it to me. I moved out of the area and forgot to take the XP CD with me. I was having problems with picking up wireless networks using my USB wireless adapter. Uninstalling and reinstalling the program for the adapter didn't fix anything, in fact, it made it worse. So I thought I would try using an XP CD to correct the problems that way. I had no idea that XP CDs weren't all the same.I put the CD that I had for my IBM laptop in the HP and it started to install. After about 10 minutes or so, I got a "Fatal Error":"An error has been encountered that prevents Setup from continuing.One of the components that Windows needs to continue setup could not be installed.The operation was canceled by the user.Press OK to view the Setup log file"The Systel Setup Log:"Error:The signature for Windows XP Home Edition Upgrade is invalid. The error code is 426.The service has not been started.
I reecently installed Vista on my computer to try it out and after a few weeks wanted to change back to XP Pro as has some things i did not like.
Here's what i did:
1. I booted into BIOS and changed the bootup to cd/dvd. 2. Booted with my Original CP PRO cd (Not bought with my computer bought after). 3. followed the instructions and deleted the partition on C and formatted (Full not Quick) the C: drive with NTFS.
It gets to the stage that the SETUP is copying files and after 43% and says it cannot copy file WOWEB.exe and to press Esc to skip, F3 to QUIT and ENTER to try again.
It does this with a whole lot of files (Over 30) then after skipping thise files it reboots and gets the BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH!!!.
I have 2 DVD drives and tried both with the same result. I tried a differant Windows XP disk with the same results.
The motherboard has a backup facility which i had backed up previously with XP but not fully and can restore to that point but i want a complete reinstall.
I have formatted and installed windows XP with that disc loads of times without any problems before.
Had to reformat my drive and now whenever i use my win xp sp2 install disc...i first format the drive and create the proper partition..the windows disc then starts copying files to the computer but at a point i get an error message saying that windows setup cannot copy the file...and it tells me which file. I redid this several times and each time at a some point in the copying it gives me this error...each time with a different file name What should i do at this stage?
I have been reading up on getting a xp setup to work on a usb. On alot of websites it says to copy the i386 folder. On my setup cd i see that it has a amd64 folder. My computer is an amd so do i copy the amd64 instead of the i386? Is the i386 only for intel and amd64 for amd?
When booting from an old Windows 98 bootdisk to install Windows XP (with slipstreamed SP1) I allways got this message: "Setup was unable to copy cdrom.sys".The problem was known at Microsoft (knowledge base) and they even got a solution for it (dude!).In the config.sys on your disk there will be a line somewhat like this: "device= /d:cdrom" simply change the cdrom to something else like : "device=..... /d:DVDRAM" and it will work.

I have a HP laptop that once ran on Vista. This summer before I left for college,I decided that it was finally time to downgrade to XP,seeing as I had backed up everything, and classes would be starting in a week.So I did the usual thing. Insert CD, restart computer,"A problem has been detected, and Windows has shut down...."Blue Screen of Death. The Stop Message: 0x0000007B (0xF78D254, 0x00000034,0x00000000,0x00000000)
During the initial Windows XP setup, is it possible to copy the files from the CDROM to the HDD and then continue installation from the HDD? I have seen this done with Windows 98 via the command prompt, assuming it can be done with XP aswell, but after looking through Microsoft.com for 5 minutes I gave up searching

I seem to be missing vital files for the Intel 82801FR SATA RAID controller. I run my recovery disk, press F6 to load the controller drivers and insert the floppy. I then choose the SCSI adaptor from the list (82801FR). It then seems to load the file 'iaStor.sys'. After then pressing enter, setup loads some more files then gives me the option to delete the existing partition and then select the unpartitioned space. I then choose to format the partition using NTFS. Then it formats and shows this info;
c/partition 1 (new Raw) 478742 free space 478742 MB Disk 0 at Id 0 on bus 0 on iaStor (MBR)
Once the formatting is finished i recieve the message;
Set up cannot copy the file: iaStor.sys To skip press esc To quit press F3
When i skip the file it says; Setup cannot copy the file: iaStor.inf When i skip this it says; Setup cannot copy the file: iaStor.cat
If i continue the installation, the pc blue screens when windows boots up.
I have mutiple floppies from various sources containing these files but none of them work.
I tried to reformat from the XP CD and from a boot disc floppy. Each time the process gets stuck at: Windows Setup.There is nothing else on the blue screen. It won't go past there to the agreement section...or anything else This system was a custom built computer, given to my mother-in-law about 3 years ago. The company has since gone out of business. It was built w/ XP Professional SP1 and has since been upgraded w/ SP2.Outlook express stopped working properly and would shut itself down as soon as it was opened. Then the dial-up connection would connect but no internet explorer pages would load.
I've setup Windows 2003 fax services on a W2K3 server and shared the device. I've tested faxing from Word on my PC and it works fine.However, when other users try to install the fax client, the setup hangs asking for the fx* setup files. I've tried different XPSP2 CDs, copying the files to a local directory, making sure that the users have local admin rights (and even domain admin rights) but to no avail. The files are already in the system32 directory so in theory the setup doesn't even need to copy them. Even if I delete them, it doesn't work.Our corporate SMS team reckons that there isn't any policy which could cause the problem.
I started an upgrade for xp pro part way through the install I got a message "WatchDriverSigningPolicy.exe" no found I pressed enter then got another message "fake setup call himself instead original "setup.exe" ; setup abort!" now each time I reboot it starts to load xp then gives me the same message then press enter it then reboots.
I mistakenly launched XP Setup and want to know how to stop it from progressing further. I have another XP installed on another virtual disk. Rebooting from there allowed me delete the Setup files. Or so I thought ! The main XP installation however continues to try to launch Setup. Just about whatever I do, it ends in tears. My question is how do I stop XP on this disk from thinking it has to launch Setup? I dont want to reinstall XP, as that will involve a huge amount of work to recreate my environment.
I was told to reinstall windows 2000 aon a C800 I was given. I stopped with an erroro reading line 3221166496 hivedef.inf corrupted. Setup cannot continue.

Im trying to copy a licensed copy of software to another cd. The software is on a 700 meg cdr.However there happens to be 1.5 gigs of files on the cd. How can i transfer the files to another cd the same way. Im trying to make a backup copy of my Microsoft office 2003 cd just in case anything happens to the original.
I dropped my laptop the other day. It kept working at first, but crashed a couple of hours later. Now, when I boot-up, I get the following error message:"Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: System32/Drivers/Ntfs.sys. You can attempt to repari this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM. Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair."I've inserted the setup CD (in an external CD-Rom drive, since my laptop doesn't have its own drive). But for some reason, setup won't start, and I keep coming back to the above error message. How do I start setup?
I have apparently got a bad copy of windows xp that is not genuine. I can't update anything internet explorer windows media player nothing. Is there any way I can fix this problem? Should I get a genuine copy of xp and make back up copies of all my files or ahould I just get a new pc altogether???
